Abstract
Organopalladium(II) boronates represent fundamental pretransmetalation intermediates in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings. These species are typically kinetically unstable, making them particularly elusive. In this study, a range of unprecedented, kinetically stable alkyl-, alkenyl-, allenyl-, and alkynylpalladium(II) boronates were prepared from various Csp3, Csp2, and Csp electrophiles via a simple, general method. The structures of these complexes were secured by X-ray crystallography, and the chemical competence of a number of these intermediates in transmetalation was demonstrated.

Abstract
Atomically precise noble metal nanoclusters provide a critical benchmark for the fundamental research of the origin of condensed matter because they retain the original state of the metal bonds. Also, knowledge about the transition from organometallic complexes to a nanoclusters is important for understanding the structural evolution of the nanoclusters, particularly their nucleation mechanism. Herein, three transition-size gold nanoclusters are prepared via a controlled diphosphine-mediated top-down routine. Starting from small-size nanoclusters, three new nanoclusters including Au13(SAdm)8(L4)2(BPh4) (Au13), Au14(S-c-C6H11)10L4 (Au14), and Au16(S-c-C6H11)11LPh* (Au16) are obtained by controlled clipping on the surface and kernel of initial nanoclusters. Combining their atomically precise structures with DFT theoretical calculations, the overall atom-by-atom structural evolution process from Au12(SR)12 (0 e-) to Au18(SR)14 (4 e-) is mapped out. In addition, studies on their electronic structures show that the evolution from an organometallic complex to nanoclusters is accompanied by a dramatic decrease in the HOMO-LUMO gaps. Most importantly, the formation of the first Au-Au bond is captured in the "Au4S4 to Au5" nucleation process from Au12(SR)12 complex to the Au13 nanocluster. This work provides a deep insight into the origin of inner core in Au NCs and their structural transition relationship with metal complexes.

Abstract
In this work, we report a new type of reactivity of [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-P(SiMe3)-PiPr2}] (1) towards ketones (BDI* = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl-β-methyldiketiminate ligand). In the reaction of 1 with acetone, cyclopentanone or cyclohexanone, a ketone moiety is inserted into Ti-Pphosphanyl or Ti-Pphosphido bonds to form complexes with a new C-P-P moiety, providing [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-P(SiMe3)-PiPr2-C(Me)2O}] (2a), [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-OC(Me)2P(SiMe3)-PiPr2}] (2b), [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-P(SiMe3)-P(iPr)2-{C(CH2)4}O}] (3a), and [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-P(SiMe3)-P(iPr)2-{C(CH2)5}O}] (4a). Starting complex 1 reacts with cyclohexanone, yielding a monocrystalline complex [{(ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(Me)CHC(Me)[double bond, length as m-dash]NAr)C(CH2)5O}Ti(Cl){PiPr2-P(SiMe3)C(CH2)5O}] (4d) with the insertion of two ketone molecules. Interestingly, we found that monoinserted complexes 2a and 3a may be oxidized via a reaction with AgCl, leading to elimination of the -SiMe3 group and oxidation of the titanium atom. This reaction led us to isolate the Ti(iv) complex [(BDI*)Ti(Cl){η2-P-P(iPr)2-{C(CH2)5}O}] (5) in crystalline form. To identify the kinds of products that may be formed and determine which products are the most energetically favoured ones, we conducted a thermodynamic DFT study of 1 towards acetone, cyclopentanone and cyclohexanone. Structures 2a, 2b, 3a, 3e, 4a, 4d, and 5 were characterized by X-ray crystallography, and complex 5 was also identified by NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
The reaction between [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(I)2] (C^N = κ2-N,C-benzoquinolinate, 1) and (i) bidentate S^S, N^S and O^O anionic ligands or (ii) monodentate S- N- or O-based anionic ligands was studied in order to investigate the factors that may guarantee the stability of Pt(ii),Pt(iv) mixed-valence dinuclear phosphanido complexes. While reactions of 1 with S^S or N^S ligands afforded stable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) species of general formula [(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(L^S)]x- [(L^S)(x-1) = 2-mercaptopyrimidinate (pymS-), 2-mercaptopyridinate (pyS-), dimethyldithiocarbamate (Me2NCS2-), ethyl xanthogenate (EtOCS2-) and 1,2-benzenedithiolate (PhS22-)], the reaction of 1 with the O^O ligand sodium acetylacetonate gave several products, and no pure Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex could be isolated. The reaction of monodentate ligands such as PhS-, OH- or N3- with 1 led to a stable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex only in the case of N3-. The reaction with OH- afforded the Pt(ii),Pt(ii) complex [(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)(κ2-O,P-μ-O-PPh2)PtII(C^N)]- (8) deriving from reductive coupling of a diphenylphosphanide and an O-donor ligand coordinated to the Pt(iv) centre, while the reaction with PhS- produced the unstable Pt(ii),Pt(iv) complex [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtIV(C^N)(PhS)2] (11) that evolved in solution to the Pt(ii),Pt(ii) species [NnBu4][(C6F5)2PtII(μ-PPh2)2PtII(C^N)] (9) by elimination of diphenyldisulfide. Thus, the stability of mixed valence Pt(ii),Pt(iv) phosphanide complexes is affected by several concurrent factors, including the chelating effect of the ligands and the type of ligating atoms.

Abstract
The diiridium complex [{Ir(ABPN2)(CO)}2(μ-CO)] (1; [ABPN2](-) = [(allyl)B(Pz)2(CH2PPh2)](-)) reacts with diphenylphosphane affording [Ir(ABPN2)(CO)(H) (PPh2)] (2), the product of the oxidative addition of the P-H bond to the metal. DFT studies revealed a large contribution of the terminal phosphanido lone pair to the HOMO of 2, indicating nucleophilic character of this ligand, which is evidenced by reactions of 2 with typical electrophiles such as H(+), Me(+), and O2. Products from the reaction of 2 with methyl chloroacetate were found to be either [Ir(ABPN2)(CO)(H)(PPh2CH2CO2Me)][PF6] ([6]PF6) or [Ir(ABPN2)(CO)(Cl)(H)] (7) and the free phosphane (PPh2CH2CO2Me), both involving P-C bond formation, depending on the reaction conditions. New complexes having iridacyclophosphapentenone and iridacyclophosphapentanone moieties result from reactions of 2 with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and dimethyl maleate, respectively, as a consequence of a further incorporation of the carbonyl ligand. In this line, the terminal alkyne methyl propiolate gave a mixture of a similar iridacyclophosphapentanone complex and [Ir(ABPN2){CH═C(CO2Me)-CO}{PPh2-CH═CH(CO2Me)}] (10), which bears the functionalized phosphane PPh2-CH═CH(CO2Me) and an iridacyclobutenone fragment. Related model reactions aimed to confirm mechanistic proposals are also studied.

Abstract
A bis(phosphine)borane ambiphilic ligand, [Fe(η(5) -C5 H4 PPh2 )(η(5) -C5 H4 PtBu{C6 H4 (BPh2 )-ortho})] (FcPPB), in which the borane occupies a terminal position, was prepared. Reaction of FcPPB with tris(norbornene)platinum(0) provided [Pt(FcPPB)] (1) in which the arylborane is η(3) BCC-coordinated. Subsequent reaction with CO and CNXyl (Xyl=2,6-dimethylphenyl) afforded [PtL(FcPPB)] {L=CO (2) and CNXyl (3)} featuring η(2) BC- and η(1) B-arylborane coordination modes, respectively. Reaction of 1 or 2 with H2 yielded [PtH(μ-H)(FcPPB)] in which the borane is bound to a hydride ligand on platinum. Addition of PhC2 H to [Pt(FcPPB)] afforded [Pt(C2 Ph)(μ-H)(FcPPB)] (5), which rapidly converted to [Pt(FcPPB')] (6; FcPPB'=[Fe(η(5) -C5 H4 PPh2 )(η(5) -C5 H4 PtBu{C6 H4 (BPh-CPh=CHPh-Z)-ortho}]) in which the newly formed vinylborane is η(3) BCC-coordinated. Unlike arylborane complex 1, vinylborane complex 6 does not react with CO, CNXyl, H2 or HC2 Ph at room temperature.

Abstract
This paper presents the synthesis and structural characterization of the unprecedented tris-phosphido-bridged compounds Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3X3 (X = Cl, Br, I), having only 42 valence electrons, while up to now analogous clusters typically have 44e(-). The new species were obtained by an apparent bielectronic oxidation of the 44e(-) monohalides Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3(CO)2X with the corresponding dihalogen X2. Their X-ray structures are close to the D3h symmetry, similarly to the 44e(-) analogues with three terminal carbonyl ligands. The products were also obtained by electrochemical oxidation of the same monohalides in the presence of the corresponding halide. In a detailed study on the formation of Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3I3, the redox potentials indicated that I2 can only perform the first monoelectronic oxidation but is unsuited for the second one. Accordingly, the 43e(-) intermediate [Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3(CO)2I](+) was ascertained to play a key role. Another piece of information is that, together with the fully oxidized product Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3I3, the transient 44e(-) species [Pt3(μ-PBu(t)2)3(CO)3](+) is formed in the early steps of the reaction. In order to extract detailed information on the formation pathway, involving both terminal ligand substitutions and electron transfer processes, a DFT investigation has been performed and all the possible intermediates have been defined together with their associated energy costs. The profile highlights many important aspects, such as the formation of an appropriate couple of 43e(-) intermediates having different sets of terminal coligands, and suitable redox potentials for the transfer of one electron. Optimizations of 45e(-) associative intermediates in the ligand substitution reactions indicate their possible involvement in the redox process with reduction of the overall energy cost. Finally, according to MO arguments, the unique stability of the 42e(-) phosphido-bridged Pt3 clusters can be attributed to the simultaneous presence of three terminal halides.

Abstract
The phosphinito-bridged Pt(I) complex [(PHCy(2))Pt(mu-PCy(2)){kappa(2)P,O-mu-P(O)Cy(2)}Pt(PHCy(2))](Pt-Pt) (1) reversibly adds H(2) under ambient conditions, giving cis-[(H)(PHCy(2))Pt(1)(mu-PCy(2))(mu-H)Pt(2)(PHCy(2)){kappaP-P(O)Cy(2)}](Pt-Pt) (2). Complex 2 slowly isomerizes spontaneously into the corresponding more stable isomer trans-[(PHCy(2))(H)Pt(mu-PCy(2))(mu-H)Pt(PHCy(2)){kappaP-P(O)Cy(2)}](Pt-Pt) (3). DFT calculations indicate that the reaction of 1 with H(2) occurs through an initial heterolytic splitting of the H(2) molecule assisted by the phosphinito oxygen with breaking of the Pt-O bond and hydrogenation of the Pt and O atoms, leading to the formation of the intermediate [(PHCy(2))(H)Pt(mu-PCy(2))Pt(PHCy(2)){kappaP-P(OH)Cy(2)}](Pt-Pt) (D), where the two split hydrogen atoms interact within a six-membered Pt-H...H-O-P-Pt ring. Compound D is a labile intermediate which easily evolves into the final dihydride complex 2 through a facile (9-15 kcal mol(-1), depending on the solvent) hydrogen shift from the phosphinito oxygen to the Pt-Pt bond. Information obtained by addition of para-H(2) on 1 are in agreement with the presence of a heterolytic pathway in the 1 --> 2 transformation. NMR experiments and DFT calculations also gave evidence for the nonclassical dihydrogen complex [(PHCy(2))(eta(2)-H(2))Pt(mu-PCy(2))Pt(PHCy(2)){kappaP-P(O)Cy(2)}](Pt-Pt) (4), which is an intermediate in the dehydrogenation of 2 to 1 and is also involved in intramolecular and intermolecular exchange processes. Experimental and DFT studies showed that the isomerization 2 --> 3 occurs via an intramolecular mechanism essentially consisting of the opening of the Pt-Pt bond and of the hydrogen bridge followed by the rotation of the coordination plane of the Pt center with the terminal hydride ligand.

Abstract
The readily available Pt(0) methyl acrylate complex [Pt{CH2CHC(O)OMe}(PPh3)2] (2) allows access to the known, mixed-valence trinuclear cluster [Pt3(mu-PPh2)3Ph(PPh3)2] (3) in 64% yield. Oxidation of 3 with 2 equivalents of I2 afforded the new trinuclear complex [Pt3(mu-I)2(mu-PPh2)2I2(PPh3)2] (4) whose molecular structure is similar to that of the related compound of empirical formula [Pt3(mu-I)2(mu-PPh2)2Cl0.5I1.5(PPh3)2] ( 5) which has been generated by oxidation of 3 with successively 1 equivalent of I2 and 1 equivalent of C6H5ICl2. In these complexes, the four halogen atoms lie on the same side of the almost aligned platinum atoms and the nearly square-planar coordination planes of the metal atoms adopt a japanese screen, chair-like conformation. The reaction of the dinuclear, metal-metal bonded Pt(I)-Pt(I) complex [Pt2(mu-PPh2)2(PPh3)2] with one equivalent of I2 afforded the Pt(II) complex [Pt2(mu-PPh2)2I2(PPh3)2] (6). The molecular structures of complexes 2 x CH2Cl2, [Pt3(mu-I)2(mu-PPh2)2(I1.3Cl0.7)(PPh3)2][Pt3(mu-I)2(mu-PPh2)2(I1.7Cl0.3)(PPh3)2] x C6H5Cl x 3CH2Cl2 (5A x 5B x C6H5Cl x 3CH2Cl2) and 6 have been established by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies.
