Abstract
A series of mixed bis-NHC rhodium(I) complexes of type RhCl(η2-olefin)(NHC)(NHC') have been synthesized by a stepwise reaction of [Rh(μ-Cl)(η2-olefin)2]2 with two different NHCs (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene), in which the steric hindrance of both NHC ligands and the η2-olefin is critical. Similarly, new mixed coumarin-functionalized bis-NHC rhodium complexes have been prepared by a reaction of mono NHC complexes of type RhCl(NHC-coumarin)(η2,η2-cod) with the corresponding azolium salt in the presence of an external base. Both synthetic procedures proceed selectively and allow the preparation of mixed bis-NHC rhodium complexes in good yields.

Abstract
Indenyl (Ind) rhodium N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes [Rh(η5 -Ind)(NHC)(L)] were synthesised for 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-4,5-dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene (SIPr) with L=C2 H4 (1), CO (2 a) and cyclooctene (COE; 3), for 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-4,5-dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene (SIMes) with L=CO (2 b) and COE (4), and 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IMes) with L=CO (2 c) and COE (5). Reaction of SIPr with [Rh(Cp*)(C2 H4 )2 ] did not give the desired SIPr complex, thus demonstrating the "indenyl effect" in the synthesis of 1. Oxidative addition of HSi(OEt)3 to 3 proceeded under mild conditions to give the Rh silyl hydride complex [Rh(Ind){Si(OEt)3 }(H)(SIPr)] (6) with loss of COE. Tethered-fluorenyl NHC rhodium complexes [Rh{(η5 -C13 H8 )C2 H4 N(C)C2 Hx NR}(L)] (x=4, R=Dipp, L=C2 H4 : 11; L=COE: 12; L=CO: 13; R=Mes, L=COE: 14; L=CO: 15; x=2, R=Me, L=COE: 16; L=CO: 17) were synthesised in low yields (5-31 %) in comparison to good yields for the monodentate complexes (49-79 %). Compounds 3 and 1, which contain labile alkene ligands, were successful catalysts for the catalytic borylation of benzene with B2 pin2 (Bpin=pinacolboronate, 97 and 93 % PhBpin respectively with 5 mol % catalyst, 24 h, 80 °C), with SIPr giving a more active catalyst than SIMes or IMes. Fluorenyl-tethered NHC complexes were much less active as borylation catalysts, and the carbonyl complexes were inactive. The borylation of toluene, biphenyl, anisole and diphenyl ether proceeded to give meta substitutions as the major product, with smaller amounts of para substitution and almost no ortho product. The borylation of octane and decane with B2 pin2 at 120 and 140 °C, respectively, was monitored by 11 B NMR spectroscopy, which showed high conversions into octyl and decylBpin over 4-7 days, thus demonstrating catalysed sp3 C-H borylation with new piano stool rhodium indenyl complexes. Irradiation of the monodentate complexes with 400 or 420 nm light confirmed the ready dissociation of C2 H4 and COE ligands, whereas CO complexes were inert. Evidence for C-H bond activation in the alkyl groups of the NHC ligands was obtained.

Abstract
Reactions of the aryl complexes Rh(aryl){κ3-P,O,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (1; aryl = 3,5-Me2C6H3 (a), C6H5 (b), 3,5-Cl2C6H3 (c), 3-FC6H4 (d); xant(PiPr2)2 = 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-bis-(diisopropylphosphino)xanthene) with O2, CO, and MeO2CC≡CCO2Me have been performed. Under 1 atm of O2, the pentane solutions of complexes 1 afford the dinuclear peroxide derivatives [Rh(aryl){κ2-P,P-xant(PiPr2)2}]2(μ-O2)2 (2a–2d) as yellow solids. In solution, these species are unstable. In dichloromethane, at room temperature, they are transformed into the dioxygen adducts Rh(aryl)(η2-O2){κ3-P,O,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (3a–3d), as a result of the rupture of the double peroxide bridge and the reduction of the metal center. Complex 3b decomposes in benzene, at 50 °C, to give diphosphine oxide, phenol, and biphenyl. Complexes 1 react with CO to give the square-planar mono carbonyl derivatives Rh(aryl)(CO){κ2-P,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (4a–4d), which under carbon monoxide atmosphere evolve to benzoyl species Rh{C(O)aryl}(CO){κ2-P,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (5a–5d), resulting from the migratory insertion of CO into the Rh-aryl bond and the coordination of a second CO molecule. The transformation is reversible; under vacuum, complexes 5 regenerate the precursors 4. The addition of the activated alkyne to complexes 1b and 1d initially leads to the π-alkyne intermediates Rh(aryl){η2-C(CO2Me)≡C(CO2Me)}{κ3-P,O,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (6b, 6d), which evolve to the alkenyl derivatives Rh{(E)-C(CO2Me)=C(CO2Me)aryl}{κ3-P,O,P-[xant(PiPr2)2]} (7b, 7d). The diphosphine adapts its coordination mode to the stability requirements of the different complexes, coordinating cis-κ2-P,P in complexes 2, fac-κ3-P,O,P in compounds 3, trans-κ2-P,P in the mono carbonyl derivatives 4 and 5, and mer-κ3-P,O,P in products 6 and 7.

Abstract
A series of Rh(κ2 -BHetA)(η2 -coe)(IPr) complexes bearing 1,3-bis-hetereoatomic acidato ligands (BHetA) including carboxylato (O,O), thioacetato (O,S), amidato (O,N), thioamidato (N,S), and amidinato (N,N), have been prepared by reaction of the dinuclear precursor [Rh(μ-Cl)(IPr)(η2 -coe)]2 with the corresponding anionic BHetA species. The RhI -NHC-BHetA compounds catalyze the dimerization of aryl alkynes, showing excellent selectivity for the head-to-tail enynes. Among them, the acetanilidato-based catalyst has shown an outstanding catalytic performance reaching unprecedented TOF levels of 2500 h-1 with complete selectivity for the gem-isomer. Investigation of the reaction mechanism supports a non-oxidative pathway in which the BHetA ligand behaves as proton shuttle through intermediate κ1 -HBHetA species. However, in the presence of pyridine as additive, the identification of the common RhIII H(C≡CPh)2 (IPr)(py)2 intermediate gives support for an alternative oxidative route.

Abstract
The rhodium(i) germyl complex [Rh(GePh3)(PEt3)3] is a useful tool for C–F and C–H bond activation reactions. For instance, treatment with hexafluoropropene results in the formation of two isomeric C–F activation products [Rh{(E)-CFCF(CF3)}(PEt3)3] and [Rh{(Z)-CFCF(CF3)}(PEt3)3] in a 3 : 1 ratio.

Abstract
Dimeric rhodium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes are demonstrated to be effective catalyst precursors for directed C-H borylation reactions at room temperature. The reactions are highly selective for mono-borylation and can be combined with a one-pot Suzuki-Miyaura coupling to give C-H arylation products with exclusive selectivity for mono-arylation without the requirement for steric blocking groups.

Abstract
A general regioselective rhodium-catalyzed head-to-tail dimerization of terminal alkynes is presented. The presence of a pyridine ligand (py) in a Rh-N-heterocyclic-carbene (NHC) catalytic system not only dramatically switches the chemoselectivity from alkyne cyclotrimerization to dimerization but also enhances the catalytic activity. Several intermediates have been detected in the catalytic process, including the π-alkyne-coordinated Rh(I) species [RhCl(NHC)(η(2)-HC≡CCH2Ph)(py)] (3) and [RhCl(NHC){η(2)-C(tBu)≡C(E)CH=CHtBu}(py)] (4) and the Rh(III)-hydride-alkynyl species [RhClH{-C≡CSi(Me)3}(IPr)(py)2] (5). Computational DFT studies reveal an operational mechanism consisting of sequential alkyne C-H oxidative addition, alkyne insertion, and reductive elimination. A 2,1-hydrometalation of the alkyne is the more favorable pathway in accordance with a head-to-tail selectivity.

Abstract
Three gases, one crystal: rhodium NHC complexes undergo back-to-back single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations by selective nonreversible ligand exchange reactions. Slow diffusion of O(2) converts a dinitrogen complex into a dioxygen complex, and CO subsequently replaces O(2).
