Abstract
Exploration of the local chemical space of molecular scaffolds by post-functionalization (PF) is a promising route to discover novel molecules with desired structure and function. PF with rationally chosen substituents based on known electronic and steric properties is a commonly used experimental and computational strategy in screening, design and optimization of catalytic scaffolds. Automated generation of reasonably accurate geometric representations of post-functionalized molecular scaffolds is highly desirable for data-driven applications. However, automated PF of transition metal (TM) complexes remains challenging. In this work a Python-based workflow, ChemSpaX, that is aimed at automating the PF of a given molecular scaffold with special emphasis on TM complexes, is introduced. In three representative applications of ChemSpaX by comparing with DFT and DFT-B calculations, we show that the generated structures have a reasonable quality for use in computational screening applications. Furthermore, we show that ChemSpaX generated geometries can be used in machine learning applications to accurately predict DFT computed HOMO–LUMO gaps for transition metal complexes. ChemSpaX is open-source and aims to bolster and democratize the efforts of the scientific community towards data-driven chemical discovery. This work introduces ChemSpaX, an open-source Python-based tool for automated exploration of chemical space of molecular scaffolds with a special focus on transition-metal complexes.![]()

Abstract
Ruthenium PNP pincer complexes bearing supplementary cyclometalated C,N‐bound ligands have been prepared and fully characterized for the first time. By replacing CO and H− as ancillary ligands in such complexes, additional electronic and steric modifications of this topical class of catalysts are possible. The advantages of the new catalysts are demonstrated in the general α‐alkylation of ketones with alcohols following a hydrogen autotransfer protocol. Herein, various aliphatic and benzylic alcohols were applied as green alkylating agents for ketones bearing aromatic, heteroaromatic or aliphatic substituents as well as cyclic ones. Mechanistic investigations revealed that during catalysis, Ru carboxylate complexes are predominantly formed whereas neither the PNP nor the CN ligand are released from the catalyst in significant amounts.

Abstract
A series of new acceptor pincer Ru(II) complexes are reported. The carbonyl complex ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)Cl(2)(-)Et(3)NH(+) is obtained from the reaction of (CF(3))PCPH with [(cod)Ru(μ-Cl)(2)](n). Chloride displacement with (CF(3))PCPH, CO, PPh(3), or C(2)H(4) gave complexes of the type ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)(L)Cl, or in the case of (CF(3))PCPH, the bridged dimeric complex [((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)Cl](2)(μ-(CF(3))PCPH). Chloride abstraction from ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)(L)Cl, L = CO or PPh(3) by (Et(3)Si)(2)(μ-H)(+)B(C(6)F(5))(4)(-) followed by Et(3)N addition produced ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)(L)(H) products. Reaction of cis-((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)(2)Cl with (Et(3)Si)(2)(μ-H)(+)B(C(6)F(5))(4)(-) in the presence of excess CO afforded ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(CO)(3)(+). The reaction of (CF(3))PCPH with (PPh(3))(3)Ru(H)(O(2)CR) (R = Me or Ph) produced the corresponding carboxylate complexes ((CF(3))PCP)Ru(PPh(3))(O(2)CR).

Abstract
Unsymmetrical 1-(arylimino)-3-(2-hetarylimino)isoindolines have been prepared from 1,3-diiminoisoindoline, an arylamine (aniline, 2-methylaniline, 2-iodoaniline), and a heteroaromatic amine (2-amino-6-methylpyridine, 2-amino-4-methylthiazole) in a stepwise manner by two consecutive condensations. The metalation reactions of these compounds with palladium(II) acetate proceed upon cyclopalladation of the carbocyclic aryl moieties and yield unsymmetrical C, N, N pincer complexes in all cases. X-ray crystallographic analysis were performed on single crystals of hydrogen{acetato[1-phenylimino-3-(6-methylpyridylimino)isoindolinato]palladate(II)} H[(phpi)Pd(OAc)] and pyridine[1-(2-tolylimino)-3-(4-methylthiazolylimino)isoindolinato]palladium(II) [(2-tolti)Pd(py)] by which the coordination mode, the conformation, the protonation site, and the trans influence of the carbon donor were established. For one more C, N, N pincer complex, hydrogen{acetato[1-(2-iodophenylimino)-3-(6-methylpyridylimino)isoindolinato]palladate(II)} H[(2-Iphpi)Pd(OAc)], a similar mononuclear coordination mode was confirmed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, whereas for the product of an oxidative addition reaction of a palladium(0) precursor to the iodoaryl derivative a product with exo coordination was found. First experiments showed the effectivity of one of these complexes as a precatalyst in CC coupling reactions (Heck and Stille coupling).
