Abstract
The polymerization mechanism of 2-vinylpyridine catalyzed by cationic yttrium complexes with diverse ancillary ligands, specifically [L1Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)]+ [L1 = (2,6-Et2C6H3)NC(Me)CHC(Me)N(2,6-Et2C6H3)] (Y-1), [L2Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)]+ [L2 = (2,6-Cl2C6H3)NC(Me)CHC(Me)N(2,6-Cl2C6H3)] (Y-2), and [L3Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)]+ [L3 = (2,6-C6H5)NC(Me)CHC(Me)N(2,6-iPr2C6H3)] (Y-3), was studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Having achieved an agreement between theory and experiment, it is found that isotactic selectivity induced by Y-1 or Y-2 results from a combination of smaller deformation of the catalyst and stronger electronic effects. Conversely, the Y-3 complex exhibits comparable energy barriers for proceeding via either isotactic or syndiotactic pathways, aligning with the production of atactic polymers as seen experimentally. To examine the steric effects on the kinetic and thermodynamic properties, a computational model of an analogue complex [L4Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)]+ [L4 = (2,6-Cl2C6H3)NC(Me)CHC(Me)N(iPr2C6H3)] (Y-4), featuring increased steric hindrance, was analyzed. Distortion-interaction and topographic steric map analyses further affirmed that steric hindrance significantly influences stereoselectivity. A direct relationship was identified between the energy barriers of isotactic insertion transition states and the bulkiness of ancillary ligands; greater distortion energy of the catalyst correlates with higher barriers for isotactic polymerization. These findings enhance the mechanistic comprehension of 2-vinylpyridine polymerization and are expected to contribute valuable insights for the improvement of catalytic polymerization systems of 2-vinylpyridine.

Abstract
The one-pot synthesis of well-defined block copolymers of olefins/1,3-dienes and polar monomers, such as cyclic esters and acrylates has long been the focus of intense research. Cationic alkyl rare earth metal catalysts, activated by organoborates, have shown to be promising for the polymerization of isoprene or styrene and ε-caprolactone. In this study, we synthesize a series of yttrium bis(alkyl) complexes supported by simple β-diketiminate ancillary ligands. Subtle changes have been made to the β-diketiminate ligand framework to elucidate the effect of ligand structure on the rate and selectivity of olefin/1,3-diene and cyclic ester polymerization, with small ligand changes having a large impact on the resulting polymerizations. Generation of the active cationic species was easily streamlined by identification of appropriate catalyst : organoborate ratios, allowing for high catalyst efficiencies. Notably, we demonstrate the first cationic rare earth metal alkyl-initiated polymerization of δ-valerolactone and ε-decalactone as well as introduced five new block copolymer morphologies. In addition, selective degradation of the ester block in poly(isoprene-b-caprolactone) enabled recovery of the polyisoprene block with identical spectroscopic and thermal properties. Significantly, recopolymerization of the recovered poly(1,3-diene) with fresh ε-caprolactone reproduced the desired diblocks with nearly identical thermal and physical properties to those of virgin copolymer, illustrating a plausible recycling scheme for these materials. Ligand features that promote one-pot block copolymerization of 1,3-dienes and cyclic esters were realized with yttrium β-diketiminate complexes. Depolymerization and repolymerization of the polyester block introduced a plausible recycling strategy.![]()

Abstract
A series of novel chiral nonmetallocene pincer-type rare-earth metal dialkyl complexes bearing the chiral monoanionic tridentate C₂-symmetric 1,3-bis(oxazolinymethylidene)isoindoline (BOXMI-H) ligand (BOXMI)Ln(CH₂SiMe₃)₂ 1⁻3 (1: Ln = Sc, yield = 57%; 2: Ln = Lu, yield = 55%; 3: Ln = Y, yield = 62%) have been prepared in moderate yields via the acid-base reaction between the BOXMI ligand and rare-earth metal tri(trimethylsilylmethyl) complexes. The X-ray diffractions show that both of the complexes 1 and 2 contain one BOXMI ligand and two trimethylsilylmethyl ligands, adopting a distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration. In the presence of a cocatalyst such as borate and AlR₃, these complexes 1⁻3 exhibit high activities of up to 6.8 × 10⁴ (g of polymer)/(molLn h) and high cis-1,4 selectivities of up to 97% in the polymerization of isoprene in toluene, yielding the cis-1,4-polyisoprenes with heavy molecular weights (Mn of up to 710,000 g/mol) and bimodal molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 2.0⁻4.5).

Abstract
An extremely rigid NNN-donor proligand, 4,5-bis{(diphenylmethylene)amino}-2,7,9,9-tetramethylacridan, H[AIm2] was prepared in five steps starting from 5-methyl-2-aminobenzoic acid and 4-bromotoluene. Reaction of intensely orange H[AIm2] with LiCH2SiMe3 formed deep blue Li(x)[AIm2]x (x = 2 in the solid state), while reaction with [Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2] (0.5 equiv.) afforded deep blue [Y(AIm2)(AIm)] (1; AIm = an AIm2 ligand cyclometalated at the ortho-position of one of the phenyl rings). Compound 1 slowly isomerizes to form green-brown 2, which contains a single trianionic, hexadentate ligand that features one amine, two imine, and three amido donors. The acridanide backbone and one imine group in each of the original AIm2 ligands is intact, but the two acridanide backbones are now linked by an isoindoline heterocycle. Yttrium in 2 is coordinated to six nitrogen donors and the ortho carbon of an isoindoline phenyl substituent. The intense colours of H[AIm2], Li(x)[AIm2]x and 1 were shown by TD-DFT calculations to arise from charge transfer transitions from the HOMO, which is localized on the acridanide ligand backbone, to the LUMO and LUMO+1, which are localized on the imine substituents. The conversion of 1 to 2 was studied by UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy and is first-order with a half-life of 7.8 hours at room temperature.

Abstract
Lanthanide-based catalysts are highly active for isoprene polymerization in hexane. In this paper, a ternary catalyst consisting of neodymium neodecanoate {Nd(vers)3}, Al((i)Bu)3 and Al((i)Bu)2Cl was studied by using X-ray-absorption fine-structure (XAFS) technique. A sealed and moisture-proof liquid sample cell with adjustable thickness was designed for Nd LIII-edge XAFS measurements. Based on the XAFS data analysis, detailed structure changes around the Nd center were obtained. It was found that the Nd(vers)3 molecules formed an oligomer structure in hexane solution with two Nd-O subshells (5O @ 2.39 Å and 5O @ 2.54 Å) around the Nd center. The alkylation process by adding Al((i)Bu)3 to the hexane solution of Nd(vers)3 partially destroyed the aggregation degree of Nd(vers)3 molecules in hexane solution. Al((i)Bu)3 ligands were bonded to the Nd center by Nd-C bonding. With the Nd : Al ratio increasing from 1 : 2.5 to 1 : 10, the O neighbors around Nd decreased from 4 to 2 but with an unchanged Nd-O bond length of 2.38 Å, and the C neighbors around Nd were kept at ca. 4 with Nd-C bond lengths in the range of 2.57-2.58 Å. The Nd-O bonds can be further replaced by Nd-C bonds during the aging process. The chlorination process by adding Al((i)Bu)2Cl to the mixture solution of Nd(vers)3 and Al((i)Bu)3 restrained intensively the agglomeration of Nd(vers)3 molecules in hexane solution. Al((i)Bu)2Cl ligands were bonded to the Nd center by Nd-Cl bonds. There were about 3-4 C neighbors at 2.58 Å, 2 Cl neighbors at 2.87 Å, and 2 Al next-neighbors at 3.14 Å around the Nd center. After allowing the ternary catalyst to stand for 5 days, the coordination numbers of Nd-C and Nd-Cl were all stabilized to 3 without bond length changes, and partial single Cl(-) anions were also bonded to the Nd center. All these structural details and their change tendency demonstrate that the decrease of aggregation degree of Nd(vers)3 molecules in hexane solution can improve the catalytic activity of the ternary lanthanide-based catalyst system.
