Abstract
Dinuclear phosphinidene complexes bridging two transition metal centres are now well established. However, a phosphinidene bridging a metal centre and a main group Lewis acid has not yet been reported. Herein, we describe the generation of a highly reactive phosphinidene complex bridging a tungsten and a boron centre. Furthermore, the synthesis and dyotropic rearrangement of a P-borane adduct of an N-methylimidazole-stabilized neutral, electrophilic terminal phosphinidene complex is reported.

Decarbonylation Products of Binuclear Methylphosphinidene Complexes of Cyclopentadienyliron Carbonyls: Triplet and Quintet Structures Are Favored Energetically over Singlet Structures with Iron-Iron Multiple Bonding. ACS OMEGA 2024; 9:12125-12134. Abstract
The structures, energetics, and energetically preferred spin states of methylphosphinidene-bridged binuclear cyclopentadienyliron carbonyl complexes MePFe2(CO)nCp2 (n = 4, 3, 2, and 1) related to the experimentally known (μ-RP)Fe2(μ-CO)(CO)2Cp2 (R = cyclohexyl, phenyl, mesityl, and 2,4,6-tBu3C6H2) complexes have been investigated by density functional theory. Singlet structures having a pyramidal pseudotetrahedral phosphorus environment with 18-electron iron configurations are energetically preferred in the tricarbonyl and tetracarbonyl systems MePFe2(CO)nCp2 (n = 4 and 3) with the lowest energy structures of the tricarbonyl very closely resembling the experimentally determined structures. For the more unsaturated dicarbonyl and monocarbonyl systems MePFe2(CO)nCp2 (n = 2 and 1), higher spin state triplet and quintet structures are energetically preferred over singlet structures. These more highly unsaturated structures can be derived from the lowest energy singlet MePFe2(CO)nCp2 (n = 4, 3) by the removal of carbonyl groups. The iron atoms giving up carbonyl groups in their 16- and 14-electron configurations bear the spin density of the unpaired electrons in the higher spin states. The lowest energy singlet structure of the monocarbonyl MePFe2(CO)Cp2, although a relatively high energy isomer, is unusual among the collection of MePFe2(CO)nCp2 (n = 4, 3, 2, and 1) structures by having both the formal Fe=Fe double bond and the four-electron donor MeP unit with the planar phosphorus coordination required to allow each of its iron atoms to attain the favored 18-electron configuration.

Abstract
Continued efforts are made on the development of earth-abundant metal catalysts for dehydrogenation/hydrolysis of amine boranes. In this study, complex [K-18-crown-6-ether][(NO)2Fe(μ-MePyr)(μ-CO)Fe(NO)2] (3-K-crown, MePyr = 3-methylpyrazolate) was explored as a pre-catalyst for the dehydrogenation of dimethylamine borane (DMAB). Upon evolution of H2(g) from DMAB triggered by 3-K-crown, parallel conversion of 3-K-crown into [(NO)2Fe(N,N'-MePyrBH2NMe2)]- (5) and an iron-hydride intermediate [(NO)2(CO)Fe(μ-H)Fe(CO)(NO)2]- (A) was evidenced by X-ray diffraction/nuclear magnetic resonance/infrared/nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy experiments and supported by density functional theory calculations. Subsequent transformation of A into complex [(NO)2Fe(μ-CO)2Fe(NO)2]- (6) is synchronized with the deactivated generation of H2(g). Through reaction of complex [Na-18-crown-6-ether][(NO)2Fe(η2-BH4)] (4-Na-crown) with CO(g) as an alternative synthetic route, isolated intermediate [Na-18-crown-6-ether][(NO)2(CO)Fe(μ-H)Fe(CO)(NO)2] (A-Na-crown) featuring catalytic reactivity toward dehydrogenation of DMAB supports a substrate-gated transformation of a pre-catalyst [(NO)2Fe(μ-MePyr)(μ-CO)Fe(NO)2]- (3) into the iron-hydride species A as an intermediate during the generation of H2(g).

Abstract
Herein is reported the structural characterization and scalable preparation of the elusive iron-phosphido complex FpP( t Bu)(F) (2-F, Fp = (Fe(η5-C5H5)(CO)2)) and its precursor FpP( t Bu)(Cl) (2-Cl) in 51% and 71% yields, respectively. These phosphide complexes are proposed to be relevant to an organoiron catalytic cycle for phosphinidene transfer to electron-deficient alkenes. Examination of their properties led to the discovery of a more efficient catalytic system involving the simple, commercially available organoiron catalyst Fp2. This improved catalysis also enabled the preparation of new phosphiranes with high yields ( t BuPCH2CHR; R = CO2Me, 41%; R = CN, 83%; R = 4-biphenyl, 73%; R = SO2Ph, 71%; R = POPh2, 70%; R = 4-pyridyl, 82%; R = 2-pyridyl, 67%; R = PPh3 +, 64%) and good diastereoselectivity, demonstrating the feasibility of the phosphinidene group-transfer strategy in synthetic chemistry. Experimental and theoretical studies suggest that the original catalysis involves 2-X as the nucleophile, while for the new Fp2-catalyzed reaction they implicate a diiron-phosphido complex Fp2(P t Bu), 4, as the nucleophile which attacks the electron-deficient olefin in the key first P-C bond-forming step. In both systems, the initial nucleophilic attack may be accompanied by favorable five-membered ring formation involving a carbonyl ligand, a (reversible) pathway competitive with formation of the three-membered ring found in the phosphirane product. A novel radical mechanism is suggested for the new Fp2-catalyzed system.
