Abstract
Abstract
The ¦-ketoiminato complex [Pd(OAc)L] (3) can be synthesized by the reaction of bis(benzoylacetone)diethylenetriamine (1, = LH) with [Pd(OAc)2] (2). The structure of 3 in the solid state has been determined by single X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 3 crystallizes as a dimer (3
2), which is formed by hydrogen bonds between NH and OOAc functionalities of two adjacent ligands. Each of the Pd atoms is complexed by one ON2 donor unit of the polydentate ligand L
− and an acetate group. Pd–Pd interactions and hydrogen bond formation between a NH and the C=O acetate moiety lead to a [4 + 2] coordination at Pd. The non-coordinated part of L exists in its ¦-keto-enamine form. The thermal decomposition behavior of 3
2 was studied by TG (thermogravimetry) and TG-MS showing that 3
2 decomposes between 200 and 500°C independent of the applied atmosphere. Under oxygen PdO is produced, while under argon Pd is formed as confirmed by PXRD measurements. Complex 3
2 was applied as a spin-coating precursor (conc. 0.1 mol L−1, volume 1.5 mL, 3000 rpm, deposition time 6 min, heating rate 50 K min−1, holding time 60 min (Ar) and 120 min (air) at T = 800°C). The as-obtained samples are characterized by granulated particles of Pd/PdO on the substrate surface. EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) measurements confirmed the formation of Pd (Ar) or PdO (O2) with up to 12 mol% C impurity.

Abstract
Realization of molecular quantum cellular automata (QCA), a promising architecture for molecular computing through current-free processes, requires improved understanding and application of mixed-valence (MV) molecules. In this report, we present an electrostatic approach to creating MV subspecies through internalizing opposite charges in close proximity to MV ionic moieties. This approach is demonstrated by unsymmetrically attaching a charge-responsive boron substituent to a well-known organometallic MV complex, biferrocenium. Guest anions (CN- and F- ) bind to the Lewis acidic boron center, leading to unusual blue-shifts of the intervalence charge-transfer (IVCT) bands. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported example of a zwitterionic MV series in which the degree of positive charge delocalization can be varied by changing the bound anions, and serves to clarify the interplay between IVCT parameters. The key underlying factor is the variable zero-level energy difference in the MV states. This work provides new insight into imbuing MV molecules with external charge-responsiveness, a prerequisite of molecular QCA techniques.

Abstract
A symmetrical flexible bis(phosphinoferrocene) derivative, viz. bis[1′-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyl]methane (1), was prepared and studied as a ligand in Pd(II) and Au(I) complexes. The reactions of 1 with [PdCl2(cod)] (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) and [Pd(μ-Cl)(LNC)]2 (LNC = [2-(dimethylamino-κN)methyl]phenyl-κC1) produced bis(phosphine) complex trans-[PdCl2(1-κ2P,P′)] (4), wherein the ligand spans trans positions in the square-planar coordination sphere of Pd(II) and the tetranuclear, P,P-bridged complex [(μ(P,P′)-1){PdCl(LNC)}2] (5), respectively. In reactions with the Au(I) precursors [AuCl(tht)] and [Au(tht)2][SbF6] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), ligand 1 gave rise to tetranuclear Au2Fe2 complex [(μ(P,P′)-1)(AuCl)2] (6) and to symmetrical macrocyclic tetramer [Au4(μ(P,P′)-1)4][SbF6]4 (7). All compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods. In addition, the structures of compound 1, its synthetic precursor bis[1′-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyl]methanone (3), and all aforementioned Pd(II) and Au(I) complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (some in solvated form).

Influence of the Steric Demand of Coligands on the Catalytic Activity of Nickel(II) Complexes in the Copolymerization of Ethene and Carbon Monoxide. ACTA ACUST UNITED AC 2013. Abstract
The copolymerization of ethene and carbon monoxide can be catalyzed with square planar arenidotriphenylphosphane nickel(II) complexes containing an N,O-chelate ligand. To examine the influence of the phosphorus ligand on the catalytic activity, five new nickel(II) complexes with P-ligands of different basicities and different steric demands were synthesized and fully characterized including the determination of the crystal structures of three of the complexes. The investigation of the catalytic activity of the new compounds showed a decisive influence of the steric properties of the P-ligand. A minimum steric demand is essential to ensure catalytic activity.
