Abstract
The catalytic efficacy of the monobipyridyl (η6-para-Cymene)Ru(II) half-metallocene, [(p-Cym)Ru(bpy)Cl]+ was evaluated in both mixed homogeneous (dye + catalyst) and heterogeneous hybrid systems (dye/TiO2/Catalyst) for photochemical CO2 reduction. A series of homogeneous photolysis experiments revealed that the (p-Cym)Ru(II) catalyst engages in two competitive routes for CO2 reduction (CO2 to formate conversion via RuII-hydride vs CO2 to CO conversion through a RuII-COOH intermediate). The conversion activity and product selectivity were notably impacted by the pKa value and the concentration of the proton source added. When a more acidic TEOA additive was introduced, the half-metallocene Ru(II) catalyst leaned toward producing formate through the RuII-H mechanism, with a formate selectivity of 86%. On the other hand, in homogeneous catalysis with TFE additive, the CO2-to-formate conversion through RuII-H was less effective, yielding a more efficient CO2-to-CO conversion with a selectivity of >80% (TONformate of 140 and TONCO of 626 over 48 h). The preference between the two pathways was elucidated through an electrochemical mechanistic study, monitoring the fate of the metal-hydride intermediate. Compared to the homogeneous system, the TiO2-heterogenized (p-Cym)Ru(II) catalyst demonstrated enhanced and enduring performance, attaining TONs of 1000 for CO2-to-CO and 665 for CO2-to-formate.

Abstract
We present four new organometallic half-sandwich iridium(III) complexes of formula [Ir(η5:κ1-C5Me4CH2py)(N,N)](PF6)2, bearing a N,N-chelating ligand [ethylenediamine (en), 1; 1,3-diaminopropane (dap), 2; 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), 3; 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 4]; and a derivatized cyclopentadienyl ligand, C5Me4CH2C5H4N, which forms an additional five-membered chelate. The latter is hemilabile, and the Ir-N(py) bond can be reversibly cleaved by various stimuli. The four complexes are unreactive toward hydrolysis at pH 7. Interestingly, 1 and 2 react with hydrochloric acid and formate, and speciation between closed and open tether complexes can be followed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Complex 1 binds to nucleobase guanine (9-ethylguanine, 9-EtG), yet interaction to calf-thymus DNA was not observed. New X-ray structures of closed tether complexes 1-4 and open tether complexes [Ir(η5-C5Me4CH2pyH)(en)Cl](PF6)2 (1·HCl) and [Ir(η5-C5Me4CH2py)(en)H]PF6 (1·hyd) have been determined. Hydride capture is efficient for 1 and 2. The kinetics of Ir-H bond formation and hydride transfer in a model organic molecule have been investigated, revealing a strong dependence on the temperature. Coincubation of complex 1 with nontoxic concentrations of sodium formate decreases the IC50 value in MCF7 breast cancer cells, indicating the possibility of intracellular activation of the Ir-N(py) tether bond to generate cytotoxic activity via iridium-mediated transfer hydrogenation.

Abstract
The reaction mechanism of the pH-dependent transfer hydrogenation of a ketone or the dehydrogenation of formic acid catalyzed by a [(η6-arene)RuCl(κ2-N,N-dmobpy)]+ complex in aqueous media has been investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) method. The TM-catalyzed TH of ketones with formic acid as the hydrogen source proceeds via two steps: the formation of a metal hydride and the transfer of the hydride to the substrate ketone. The calculated results show that ruthenium hydride formation is the rate-determining step. This proceeds via an ion-pair mechanism with an energy barrier of 14.1 kcal mol-1. Interestingly, the dihydrogen release process of formic acid and the hydride transfer process that produces alcohols are competitive under different pH environments. The investigation explores the feasibility of the two pathways under different pH environments. Under acidic conditions (pH = 4), the free energy barrier of the dihydrogen release pathway is 4.5 kcal mol-1 that is higher than that of the hydride transfer pathway, suggesting that the hydride transfer pathway is more favorable than the dihydrogen release pathway. However, under strongly acidic conditions, the dihydrogen release pathway is more favorable compared to the hydride transfer pathway. In addition, the ruthenium hydride formation pathway is less favorable than the ruthenium hydroxo complex formation pathway under basic conditions.

Abstract
A series of 18 ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes were synthesized and evaluated under electrochemically oxidative conditions, which generates the Ru(III) oxidation state and mimics the harsh conditions experienced during the kinetically limited regime that can occur in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and dye-sensitized photo-electrosynthesis cells, to further develop fundamental insights into the factors governing molecular sensitizer surface stability in aqueous 0.1 M HClO4. Both desorption and oxidatively induced ligand substitution were observed on planar fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrodes, with a dependence on the E1/2 Ru(III/II) redox potential dictating the comparative ratios of the processes. Complexes such as RuP4OMe ( E1/2 = 0.91 vs Ag/AgCl) displayed virtually only desorption, while complexes such as RuPbpz ( E1/2 > 1.62 V vs Ag/AgCl) displayed only chemical decomposition. Comparing isomers of 4,4'- and 5,5'-disubstituted-2,2'-bipyridine ancillary ligands, a dramatic increase in the rate of desorption of the Ru(III) complexes was observed for the 5,5'-ligands. Nanoscopic indium-doped tin oxide thin films (nanoITO) were also sensitized and analyzed with cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, allowing for further distinction of desorption versus ligand-substitution processes. Desorption loss to bulk solution associated with the planar surface of FTO is essentially non-existent on nanoITO, where both desorption and ligand substitution are shut down with RuP4OMe. These results revealed that minimizing time spent in the oxidized form, incorporating electron-donating groups, maximizing hydrophobicity, and minimizing molecular bulk near the adsorbed ligand are critical to optimizing the performance of ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes in dye-sensitized devices.

Abstract
A new (NNN) tridentate ligand was prepared, and its ability to coordinate ruthenium(II) was evaluated. The presence of different functional groups on the ligand allows bi- or tri-coordinated complexes to be obtained depending on complexation conditions. The catalytic activity of both bidentate and tridentate complexes was studied in asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of different aryl ketones, showing a comparable behavior of the two complexes in terms of efficiency and stereoselectivity.

Abstract
A Ru(II)-based catalyst trapped within an amphiphilic, folded polymer is employed for the oxidation of secondary alcohols to their corresponding ketones using tBuOOH as the oxidant. Under the applied catalytic conditions, the polymer catalyst forms a compartmentalized structure with a hydrophobic interior. We selected secondary alcohols that differ in hydrophobicity, reactivity, and steric hindrance as substrates, with the aim to elucidate how this affects the rate and the end conversion of the oxidation reaction. Our investigations show that the Ru(II)-based catalyst is very efficient for oxidation reactions in water. Moreover, high selectivity toward the more hydrophobic substrate is observed, which originates from the hydrophobic interior of the compartmentalized catalyst system. This hydrophobic selectivity is also observed in the reverse reaction, the transfer hydrogenation.

Abstract
This review is oriented toward the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of imines regarding mostly fundamental, yet important topics from the practical point of view. Development of analytical methods for the monitoring of ATH (i.e., kinetics and stereoselectivity) belongs to those topics, as well as studies on the influence of reaction conditions and structural variations on the reaction performance. The second part is devoted to the reaction mechanism with the emphasis on imine ATH and catalyst behaviour under acidic conditions. The review also addresses the asymmetric hydrogenation (AH) of ketones and imines using molecular hydrogen and the application of ATH in pharmaceutical projects. Abstract
The reactivity of compounds [RuCl2(η(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH)(L)] (L = phosphine or phosphite) towards the chloride abstractor AgSbF6 has been investigated. Thus, the treatment of the triphenylphosphite complex [RuCl2(η(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH){P(OPh)3}] with one equivalent of AgSbF6 gave rise to the formation of the dinuclear dichloro-bridged species [{Ru(μ-Cl)(η(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH){P(OPh)3}}2](2+) as the hexafluoroantimonate salt. On the other hand, the triphenylphosphine analog [RuCl2(η(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH)(PPh3)] led, under the same experimental conditions, to the di-ruthenium derivative [{RuCl(η(6)-C6H5OCH2CH2OH)(PPh3)}2(μ-Cl)][SbF6] containing only one Cl-bridge. In sharp contrast, treatment of precursors [RuCl2(η(6)-C6H5CH2CH2CH2OH)(L)] (L = P(OPh)3, PPh3, P(OEt)3) with AgSbF6 resulted in the clean formation of the tethered compounds [RuCl{η(6):κ(1)(O)-C6H5CH2CH2CH2OH}(L)][SbF6]. The differences in reactivity observed have been rationalized by theoretical calculations.
