Abstract
Neutral three-dimensional Eu3+- and Tb3+-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with 4-fold interpenetration can be produced by seeding with anionic Cd2+-based MOF crystallites of identical connectivity. In the absence of these crystallites, two-dimensional networks are formed.

Two Luminescent Iridium Complexes with Phosphorous Ligands and Their Photophysical Comparison in Solution, Solid and Electrospun Fibers: Decreased Aggregation-Caused Emission Quenching by Steric Hindrance. MATERIALS 2021; 14:ma14185419. Abstract
In this paper, we prepared two phosphorescent Ir complexes with ligands of 2-phenyl pyridine (ppy), and two phosphorous ligands with large steric hindrance, hoping to allow enough time for the transformation of the highly phosphorescent 3MLLCT (metal-to-ligand-ligand-charge-transfer) excited state. Their large steric hindrance minimized the π-π interaction between complex molecules, so that the aggregation-induced phosphorescence emission (AIPE) influence could be minimized. Their single crystals indicated that they took a distorted octahedral coordination mode. Photophysical comparison between these Ir complexes in solution, in the solid state and in electrospun fibers was performed to confirm the realization of limited aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ). The potential surface crossing and energy transfer from 3MLBPECT/3MLBPELppyCT to 3MLppyCT in these Ir complexes were revealed by density functional theory calculation and temperature-dependent emission. It was confirmed that these two phosphorous ligands offered large steric hindrance, which decreased the ACQ effect, allowing the efficient emissive decay of the 3MLppyCT excited state. This is one of the several luminescent Ir complexes with a high emission yield (Φ = 0.27) and long emission lifetime (0.43 μs) in the solid state.

Abstract
A new class of emissive cyclometallated IrIII -AuI complexes with a bis(diphenylphosphino) methanide bridging ligand was successfully synthesised from the diphosphino complex [Ir(N^C)2 (dppm)]+ (1). The different gold ancillary ligand, a triphenylphosphine (2), a chloride (3) or a thiocytosine (4) did not reveal any significant effect on the photophysical properties, which are mainly due to metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (3 MLCT) transitions based on IrIII . However, the AuI fragment, along with the ancillary ligand, seemed crucial for the bioactivity in A549 lung carcinoma cells versus endothelial cells. Both cell types display variable sensitivities to the complexes (IC50 =0.6-3.5 μM). The apoptotic pathway is activated in all cases, and paraptotic cell death seems to take place at initial stages in A549 cells. Species 2-4 showed at least dual lysosomal and mitochondrial biodistribution in A549 cells, with an initial lysosomal localisation and a possible trafficking process between both organelles with time. The bimetallic IrIII -AuI complexes disrupted the mitochondrial transmembrane potential in A549 cells and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) inhibition in comparison with that displayed by the monometallic complex 1. Angiogenic activity assays performed in endothelial cells revealed the promising antimetastatic potential of 1, 2 and 4.

Abstract
The title IrIII complex, [Ir(C11H8N)2Cl(C25H22P2)], was synthesized from the substitution reaction between the (ppy)2Ir(μ-Cl)2Ir(ppy)2 (ppy = deprotonated 2-phenyl-pyridine, C11H8N-) dimer and 1,1-bis-(di-phenyl-phosphan-yl)methane (dppm, C25H22P2) under an argon gas atmosphere for 20 h. The IrIII atom is coordinated by two C,N-bidentate ppy anions, a unidentate dppm ligand and a chloride anion in a distorted octa-hedral IrC2N2PCl arrangement. The N donor atoms of the ppy ligands are mutually trans while the C atoms are cis. Intra-molecular aromatic π-π stacking between the phenyl rings of ppy and dppm, and C-H⋯Cl inter-actions are observed. In the crystal, C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯π contacts link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was carried out to further qu-antify the inter-molecular inter-actions, and indicated that H⋯H contacts (63.9%) dominate the packing.

Abstract
Precise quantitative measurement of viscosity at the subcellular level presents great challenges. Two-photon phosphorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (TPPLIM) can reflect micro-environmental changes of a chromophore in a quantitative manner. Phosphorescent iridium complexes are potential TPPLIM probes due to their rich photophysical properties including environment-sensitive long-lifetime emission and high two-photon absorption (TPA) properties. In this work, a series of iridium(iii) complexes containing rotatable groups are developed as mitochondria-targeting anticancer agents and quantitative viscosity probes. Among them, Ir6 ([Ir(ppy-CHO)2(dppe)]PF6; ppy-CHO: 4-(2-pyridyl)benzaldehyde; dppe: cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethene) shows satisfactory TPA properties and long lifetimes (up to 1 μs). The emission intensities and lifetimes of Ir6 are viscosity-dependent, which is mainly attributed to the configurational changes in the diphosphine ligand as proved by 1H NMR spectra. Ir6 displays potent cytotoxicity, and mechanism investigations show that it can accumulate in mitochondria and induce apoptotic cell death. Moreover, Ir6 can induce mitochondrial dysfunction and monitor the changes in mitochondrial viscosity simultaneously in a real-time and quantitative manner via TPPLIM. Upon Ir6 treatment, a time-dependent increase in viscosity and heterogeneity is observed along with the loss of membrane potential in mitochondria. In summary, our work shows that multifunctional phosphorescent metal complexes can induce and precisely detect microenvironmental changes simultaneously at the subcellular level using TPPLIM, which may deepen the understanding of the cell death mechanisms induced by these metallocompounds.

Abstract
Ir(III) metal complexes and related emitters bearing all kind of cyclometalated chromophoric chelates and non-chromophoric ancillary are extensively studied during the past three decades. Many of them have been found to display bright room temperature phosphorescence from triplet excited states in both solution and solid states, offering a possible application in contemporary optoelectronic technologies, including organic light emitting diodes, electrochemiluminescence, biological imaging and chemical sensing. Among reported materials, there are Ir(III) complexes with at least one phosphorus (P)-containing ligand and/or ancillary chelate, together with cyclometalates or equivalents that are in control of the actual emission energy. Particularly, possession of P-based donor can lead to divergent structural and photophysical properties compared to the traditional designs. This review aims to provide a literature overview as well as the authors' personal account to the development of relevant Ir(III) based phosphors bearing these P-donors. To the readers' convenience, the contents are subdivided into six sessions, according to whether or not they are charge natural, or with mono- or dianionic electronic character, and in accordance to their divergent bonding modes, i. e. monodentate, bidentate and tripodal coordination. In many cases, the P-based ancillaries offer an easy accessible route to the formation of efficient sky-blue and true-blue emitters due to their π-accepting property, together with enlarged emission energy gap and destabilized upper lying quenching state.

Abstract
This paper presents synthesis and photophysical investigation of cyclometalated water-soluble Pt(ii) and Ir(iii) complexes containing auxiliary sulfonated diphosphine (bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppb), P^P*) ligand. The complexes demonstrate considerable variations in excitation (extending up to 450 nm) and emission bands (with maxima ranging from ca. 450 to ca. 650 nm), as well as in the sensitivity of excited state lifetimes to molecular oxygen (from almost negligible to more than 4-fold increase in degassed solution). Moreover, all the complexes possess high two-photon absorption cross sections (400–500 GM for Pt complexes, and 600–700 GM for Ir complexes). Despite their negative net charge, all the complexes demonstrate good uptake by HeLa cells and low cytotoxicity within the concentration and time ranges suitable for two-photon phosphorescence lifetime (PLIM) microscopy. The most promising complex, [(ppy)2Ir(sulfo-dppb)] (Ir1*), upon incubation in HeLa cells demonstrates two-fold lifetime variations under normal and nitrogen atmosphere, correspondingly. Moreover, its in vivo evaluation in athymic nude mice bearing HeLa tumors did not reveal acute toxicity upon both intravenous and topical injections. Finally, Ir1* demonstrated statistically significant difference in lifetimes between normal tissue (muscle) and tumor in macroscopic in vivo PLIM imaging. Novel water-soluble iridium complexes with sulfonated diphosphine allow in vitro and in vivo lifetime hypoxia imaging.![]()
