Abstract
This report describes the synthesis of a new NNSe pincer ligand and its mono- and dinuclear palladium(II) pincer complexes. In the absence of a base, a dinuclear palladium pincer complex (C1) was isolated, while in the presence of Et3 N base a mononuclear palladium pincer complex (C2) was obtained. The new ligand and complexes were characterized using techniques like 1 H, 13 C{1 H} nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), fourier transform infrared (FTIR), high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Visible), and cyclic voltammetry. Both the complexes showed pincer coordination mode with a distorted square planar geometry. The complex C1 has two pincer ligands attached through a Pd-Pd bond in a dinuclear pincer fashion. The air and moisture-insensitive, thermally robust palladium pincer complexes were used as the catalyst for decarboxylative direct C-H heteroarylation of (hetero)arenes. Among the complexes, dinuclear pincer complex C1 showed better catalytic activity. A variety of (hetero)arenes were successfully activated (43-87 % yield) using only 2.5 mol % of catalyst loading under mild reaction conditions. The PPh3 and Hg poisoning experiments suggested a homogeneous nature of catalysis. A plausible reaction pathway was proposed for the dinuclear palladium pincer complex catalyzed decarboxylative C-H bond activation reaction of (hetero)arenes.

Abstract
Five new NNN pincer-type ligands and their palladium complexes were successfully synthesised and characterised by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV-vis analyses. TEM analysis was used to observe the morphological character of the black residues obtained from the fourth cycle of the reusability test. Furthermore, suitable crystals of the N2,N6-bis(2-tert-butylphenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide and its palladium complex were elucidated with the X-ray single crystal diffraction method. Both the ligand and its palladium complex crystallise in a monoclinic system with space group P21/c for the H2L4 and C2/c for the palladium complex. The structure of the pincer ligand and its palladium complex were stabilised by intramolecular and intermolecular C-H⋅⋅⋅O, C-H⋅⋅⋅N, and N-H⋅⋅⋅N contacts. A Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction between aryl halides and phenylboronic acid was used to assess the catalytic abilities of the palladium pincer complexes. All of the prepared complexes exhibited considerable catalytic activity. However, complexes 4 (Acetonitrile-N2,N6-bis(2-tert-butylphenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamidopalladium(II)) and 5 (Acetonitrile-N2,N6-bis(2-nitrophenyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamidopalladium(II)) provided almost 100% conversion with nearly 100% yield in the reaction between 4-bromotoluene and phenylboronic acid. Furthermore, these active complexes catalysed the reaction of the sterically hindered and deactivated substrates (1-Bromo-4-izobutylbenzene and 2-bromo-6-methoxynaphthalene) with phenylboronic acid, and complete conversion and yields up to 100% were achieved in a short time with the 2-bromo-6-methoxynaphthalene.

Abstract
The homogeneous catalysis of epoxide hydrogenolysis to give alcohols has recently received significant attention. Catalyst systems have been developed for the selective formation of either the Markovnikov (branched) or anti-Markovnikov (linear) alcohol product. Thus far, the reported catalysts exhibiting Markovnikov selectivity all feature the potential for Noyori/Shvo-type bifunctional catalysis, with either a RuH/NH or FeH/OH core structure. The proposed mechanisms of epoxide ring-opening have involved cooperative C-O bond hydrogenolysis involving the metal hydride and the acidic pendant group on the ligand, in analogy to the well-documented mechanism of polar double-bond hydrogenation exhibited by catalysts of this type. In this work, we present a combined computational/experimental study of the mechanism of epoxide hydrogenolysis catalyzed by Noyori-type PNP and PNN complexes of ruthenium. We find that, at least for these ruthenium systems, the previously proposed bifunctional pathway for epoxide ring-opening is energetically inaccessible; instead, the ring-opening proceeds through opposite-side nucleophilic attack of the ruthenium hydride on the epoxide carbon, without the involvement of the ligand N-H group. For both catalyst systems, the rate law and overall barrier predicted by density functional theory (DFT) are consistent with the results from kinetic studies.

Abstract
The synthesis of two new 1,2,3-triazole appended monophosphines [P(Ph){(o-C6H4)(1,2,3-N3C(Ph)CH}2] (1) and [P(Ph){o-C6H4(CCH)(1,2,3-N3-Ph)}2] (2) and their RuII complexes is described. The reactions of 1 and 2 with [Ru(PPh3)3Cl2] in a 1 : 1 molar ratio produced cationic complexes 3 and 4, respectively. Both the complexes showed very high catalytic activity towards transfer hydrogenation, nitro reduction, and α-alkylation reactions and afforded the corresponding products in good to excellent yields. The free energy of β-hydride elimination from the respective Ru-alkoxide intermediates, a key mechanistic step common to all the three catalytic pathways, was calculated to be close to ergoneutral by density functional theory-based calculations, which is posited to rationalize the catalytic activity of 3. The reduction of aromatic nitro compounds was found to be highly chemoselective and produced the corresponding amines as major products even in the presence of a carbonyl group. The triazolyl-N2 coordinated RuII-NPN complex 3 showed better catalytic activity compared to the triazolyl-N3 coordinated complex 4.

Abstract
Recently, an increasing number of metal complex catalysts have been developed to achieve the activation or transformation of substrates based on cooperation between the metal atom and its ligands. In such “cooperative catalysis,” the ligand not only is bound to the metal, where it exerts steric and electronic effects, but also functionally varies its structure during the elementary processes of the catalytic reaction. In this review article, we focus on metal–ligand cooperation involving aromatization and dearomatization of the ligand, thus introducing the newest developments and examples of homogeneous catalytic reactions.

Abstract

Both
CO and N2O are important, environmentally harmful
industrial gases. The reaction of CO and N2O to produce
CO2 and N2 has stimulated much research interest
aimed at degradation of these two gases in a single step. Herein,
we report an efficient CO oxidation by N2O catalyzed by
a (PNN)Ru–H pincer complex under mild conditions, even with
no added base. The reaction is proposed to proceed through a sequence
of O-atom transfer (OAT) from N2O to the Ru–H bond
to form a Ru–OH intermediate, followed by intramolecular OH
attack on an adjacent CO ligand, forming CO2 and N2. Thus, the Ru–H bond of the catalyst plays a central
role in facilitating the OAT from N2O to CO, providing
an efficient and novel protocol for CO oxidation.

Abstract
Abstract
Alcohols are a promising source for the sustainable production of hydrogen that may also serve as rechargeable liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs). Metal-catalyzed acceptorless dehydrogenation of alcohols produces carbonyl derivatives as H2-depleted by-products, which by means of a hydrogenation reaction can be reconverted to the initial alcohols. Hence, reversible H2-storage systems based on pairs of secondary alcohols/ketones and primary alcohols/carboxylic acid derivatives may be envisaged. In this contribution, the hydrogenation of carbonyl derivatives, including ketones, esters, amides and carboxylic acids, is reviewed from the perspective of the hydrogen storage in alcohols.

Abstract
Amides are ubiquitous and abundant in nature and our society, but are very stable and reluctant to salt-free, catalytic chemical transformations. Through the activation of a “sterically confined bipyridine–ruthenium (Ru) framework (molecularly well-designed site to confine adsorbed H2 in)” of a precatalyst, catalytic hydrogenation of formamides through polyamide is achieved under a wide range of reaction conditions. Both C=O bond and C–N bond cleavage of a lactam became also possible using a single precatalyst. That is, catalyst diversity is induced by activation and stepwise multiple hydrogenation of a single precatalyst when the conditions are varied. The versatile catalysts have different structures and different resting states for multifaceted amide hydrogenation, but the common structure produced upon reaction with H2, which catalyzes hydrogenation, seems to be “H–Ru–N–H.”

Abstract
A broad range of secondary and tertiary amides has been hydrogenated to the corresponding amines under mild conditions using an in situ catalyst generated by combining [Ru(acac)3], 1,1,1-tris(diphenylphosphinomethyl)ethane (Triphos) and Yb(OTf)3. The presence of the metal triflate allows to mitigate reaction conditions compared to previous reports thus improving yields and selectivities in the desired amines. The excellent isolated yields of two scale-up experiments corroborate the feasibility of the reaction protocol. Control experiments indicate that, after the initial reduction of the amide carbonyl group, the reaction proceeds through the reductive amination of the alcohol with the amine arising from collapse of the intermediate hemiaminal.

Abstract
The reaction of the phosphino-carbene MeNC3H2NPtBu2 with RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3 is shown to give facile access to the Ru(0) species (MeNC3H2NPtBu2)Ru(CO)(PPh3)2 (). This species undergoes oxidative addition of H2 and silanes to give (MeNC3H2NPtBu2)RuH2(CO)(PPh3)2, (MeNC3H2NPtBu2)Ru H(SiRPh2)(CO)(PPh3) (R = Ph 5, H 6) and (MeNC3H2NPtBu2) RuH(PhSi(SCH2CH2)2O)(CO)(PPh3) .

Abstract
Pincer ligands have become ubiquitous in organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis. Recently, new varieties of pincer ligands with non-symmetrical backbones and/or ligating groups have been reported and their application in transition metal complexes has been exploited in a variety of catalytic transformations. This non-symmetric approach vastly increases the structural and electronic diversity of this class of ligand. This approach has proven beneficial in a variety of ways, such as the use of a single weakly coordinating moiety, which can dissociate and thereby create a vacant coordination site to increase the catalyst activity. Additionally, this provides further access to chiral ligands and complexes for asymmetric induction. This perspective highlights recent, important examples of non-symmetric pincer ligands, which feature aryl or pyridine backbones, and the synthesis and use of subsequent complexes in catalytic transformations, and discusses the future potential of this type of ligand system.
