Diastereoselective ortho-Metalation of a Chiral Ferrocenylphosphonic Diamide and Its Organotin Derivatives

Extending Chirality in Group XIV Metallatranes

The syntheses of the racemic amino alcohol rac-N(CH₂CMe₂OH)(CMe₂CH₂OH)(CH₂CHMeOH) (L^22'1*H₃, 2) and its representative N(CH₂CMe₂OH)(CMe₂CH₂OH)(CH₂C(R)HMeOH) (L^22'1RH₃, 3) with the stereogenic carbon center being R-configured are reported. Also reported are the stannatranes L^22'1*SnOt-Bu (4) L^22'1RSnOt-Bu (6) and germatranes L^22'1*GeOEt (5) and L^22'1RGeOEt (7) as well as the trinuclear tin oxocluster [(μ₃-O)(μ₃-O-t-Bu){SnL^22'1R}₃] (8). NMR and IR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS), and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis characterize these compounds. Computational studies accompany the experimental work and help understand the diastereoselectivity observed in the course of the metallatrane syntheses.

N-Functionalized Ferrocenes: Subvalent Group XIV Element Chlorides and tert-Butyllithium-Induced C-C Bond Cleavage under Mild Conditions

The ferrocene derivative (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArNCH)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )} (1; Ar=2,6-iPr₂ C₆ H₃ )) reacts diastereoselectively with LiR by carbolithiation and subsequent hydrolysis to give (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArHNCHR)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )} (3: R=tBu; 4: R=Ph; 5: R=Me) in high yields. For R=tBu, the organolithium derivative (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArLiNCHR)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )} (2) was isolated. Compound 2 reacts with GeCl₂ ⋅dioxane and SnCl₂ to give the metallylene amide chlorides (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArMNCHtBu)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )} 6 (M=GeCl) and 7 (M=SnCl), respectively, which each contain three stereogenic centers. The potential of 7 as a ligand in transition-metal chemistry is demonstrated by formation of its complex (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArMNCHtBu)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )} [9, M= Sn(Cl)W(CO)₅ ]. Treatment of 3 with tert-butyllithium at room temperature causes an unprecedented carbon-carbon bond cleavage whereas under kinetic control, lithiation at the Cp-3 position takes place, which leads to the isolation of (η⁵ -Cp)Fe{η⁵ -C₅ H₃ -1-(ArHNCHtBu)-2-(CH₂ NMe₂ )-3-SiMe₃ } (10).

A Ferrocenyl-Backboned Unsymmetric O,C-Coordinating Ligand and Its Tin Derivatives

The syntheses of the phosphonyl-substituted ferrocenyl stannane Fe[{η (5)-C5H3-1-SnPh3-2-P(O)(O-iPr)2}{η (5)-C5H4P(O)(O-iPr)2}] (1) and its iodine derivative Fe[{η (5)-C5H3-1-SnPh2I-2-P(O)(O-iPr)2}{η (5)-C5H4P(O)(O-iPr)2}] (2) are reported. The syntheses of the corresponding salts Fe[{η (5)-C5H3-1-SnPh2-2-P(O)(O-iPr)2}{η (5)-C5H4P(O)(O-iPr)2}]X (3, X=Al{OC(CF3)3}4, 4, X=ClO4, 5, X=HgI3), respectively, are also described. The compounds are characterized by elemental analyses, (1)H, (13)C, (31)P, (119)Sn NMR and IR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and, except for 4 and 5, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Different Complexation Behavior of P-Functionalized Ferrocene Derivatives Towards SnCl2 , SnCl4 and SnPh2 Cl2 : Auto-ionization and Redox-Type Reactions

The novel phosphonyl-substituted ferrocene derivatives [Fe(η(5) -Cp)(η(5) -C5 H3 {P(O)(O-iPr)2 }2 -1,2)] (Fc(1,2) ) and [Fe{η(5) -C5 H4 P(O)(O-iPr)2 }2 ] (Fc(1,1') ) react with SnCl2 , SnCl4 , and SnPh2 Cl2 , giving the corresponding complexes [(Fc(1,2) )2 SnCl][SnCl3 ] (1), [{(Fc(1,1') )SnCl2 }n ] (2), [(Fc(1,1') )SnCl4 ] (3), [{(Fc(1,1') )SnPh2 Cl2 }n ] (4), and [(Fc(1,2) )SnCl4 ] (5), respectively. The compounds are characterized by elemental analyses, (1) H, (13) C, (31) P, (119) Sn NMR and IR spectroscopy, (31) P and (119) Sn CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy, cyclovoltammetry, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and single-crystal as well as powder X-ray diffraction analyses. The experimental work is accompanied by DFT calculations, which help to shed light on the origin for the different reaction behavior of Fc(1,1') and Fc(1,2) towards tin(II) chloride.

Application of cyclic phosphonamide reagents in the total synthesis of natural products and biologically active molecules

A review of the synthesis of natural products and bioactive compounds adopting phosphonamide anion technology is presented highlighting the utility of phosphonamide reagents in stereocontrolled bond-forming reactions. Methodologies utilizing phosphonamide anions in asymmetric alkylations, Michael additions, olefinations, and cyclopropanations will be summarized, as well as an overview of the synthesis of the employed phosphonamide reagents.

Synthesis, crystal structure, and photoluminescence studies of a ruthenocenyl-decorated Sn/S cluster

Recently, we reported on ferrocenyl-decorated Sn/S clusters; herein, we present the extension of our investigations by attachment of ruthenocenyl units to an according cluster skeleton. The latter was realized upon improvement of the synthesis of acetylruthenocene, its conversion to a hydrazone derivative, and the subsequent reaction with a keto-functionalized Sn/S precursor complex. The report comprises the crystal structures of acetylruthenocene and the ruthenocenyl-terminated Sn/S cluster [(R(Rc)Sn)4Sn2S10] (R(Rc) = CMe2CH2C(Me)═N-N═C(Me)Rc), as well as the discussion of the electrochemical properties of the latter and its behavior during time-resolved photoluminescence investigations.
