Abstract
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer with versatile applications in packaging and medicine. It is derived from lactic acid and thus represents an eco-friendly option sourced from renewable raw materials. Despite its advantages, PLA exhibits few drawbacks, such as brittleness and relatively high melting and glass transition temperatures. However, these limitations can be addressed through copolymerization with other monomers like ε-caprolactone (ε-CL), resulting in a composite material with improved physical properties. This paper comprehensively reviews achievements in PLA-PCL copolymerization using organometallic catalysts, discussing scientific findings and various copolymer architectures obtained, including random or block configurations. It also demonstrates various sustainable catalysts for achieving the required microstructure under mild reaction conditions without the aid of any external initiator.

Abstract
Five new alkylaluminum complexes with different pyridinyl-substituted imines or cyclohexyl-substituted imines were synthesized and characterized successfully. The aluminum complex [FlCHNCH(CH3)Py]AlMe2(Py = 2-pyridyl) (1) was obtained by reacting 9-[2-pyridyl-CH(CH3)-NCH]Fl (Fl = fluorenyl) (L1) and equimolar AlMe3. The reactions of 9-(2-pyridyl-NCH)Fl (L2) and 9-[2-N(CH3)2-cyclohexyl-NCH]Fl (L3) with equimolar AlMe3 or AlEt3 afforded other alkylaluminum complexes [FlCHNPy]AlMe2(Py = 2-pyridyl) (2), [FlCHNPy]AlEt2 (Py = 2-pyridyl) (3), [FlCHNCyN(CH3)2]AlMe2 (Cy = 2-cyclohexyl) (4) and [FlCHNCyN(CH3)2]AlEt2 (Cy = 2-cyclohexyl) (5). All these complexes (1-5) were characterized using NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystal structure analysis. The catalytic properties of these new alkylaluminum complexes for the hydrophosphonylation of aldimines were examined. Complex 5 showed the best catalytic performance under mild reaction conditions with a low catalyst loading (1 mol%), and 20 different substituents of aldimines were isolated with more than 90% yields.

Abstract
The use of multimetallic complexes is a rapidly advancing route to enhance catalyst performance in the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters and ethers. Multimetallic catalysts often outperform their monometallic analogues in terms of reactivity and/or polymerization control, and these improvements are typically attributed to "multimetallic cooperativity". Yet the origins of multimetallic cooperativity often remain unclear. This review explores the key factors underpinning multimetallic cooperativity, including metal-metal distances, the flexibility, electronics and conformation of the ligand framework, and the coordination environment of the metal centers. Emerging trends are discussed to provide insights into why cooperativity occurs and how to harness cooperativity for the development of highly efficient multimetallic catalysts.

Abstract
A series of novel lanthanum amido complexes, supported by ligands designed around the salan framework (salan = N,N'-bis(o-hydroxy, m-di-tert-butylbenzyl)-1,2-diaminoethane) were synthesized and fully characterized in the solid and solution states. The ligands incorporate benzyl or 2-pyridyl substituents at each tertiary amine center. The complexes were investigated as catalysts in the ring-opening homopolymerization of lactide (LA) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and copolymerization of equimolar amounts of LA and ε-CL at ambient temperature. Solvent (THF or toluene) and the number of 2-pyridyl groups in the complex were found to influence the reactivity of the catalysts in copolymerization reactions. In all cases, complete conversion of LA to PLA was observed. The use of THF, a coordinating solvent, suppressed ε-CL polymerization, while the presence of one or more 2-pyridyl groups promoted ε-CL polymerization. Each copolymer gave a monomodal trace in gel permeation chromatography-size-exclusion chromatography (GPC-SEC) experiments, indicative of copolymer formation over homopolymerization. Copolymer microstructure was found to be dependent on catalyst structure and reaction solvent, ranging from blocky to close to alternating. Experiments revealed rapid conversion of LA in the initial stages of the reaction, followed by incorporation of ε-CL into the copolymer by either transesterification or propagation reactions. Significantly, the mode of transesterification (TI or TII) that occurs is determined by the structure of the metal complex and the reaction solvent, leading to the possibility of controlling copolymer microstructure through catalyst design.

Abstract
The chain shuttling ring-opening copolymerization of l-lactide with ε-caprolactone has been achieved using two aluminum catalysts presenting different selectivities and benzyl alcohol as chain transfer agent. A newly synthesized aminobisphenolate supported aluminum complex affords the synthesis of lactone rich poly(l-lactide-co-lactone) statistical copolymeric blocks, while Al(OiPr)3 produces semicrystalline poly(l-lactide) rich blocks. Transalkoxylation is shown to operate efficiently. The crystalline ratios and glass transition temperatures of these new classes of polylactide based block copolymers can be tuned by adjusting the catalysts and the comonomers ratio.

Abstract
A series of six-coordinate titanium complexes 1-6 supported by pyrrolylaldiminate ligands were prepared via the reaction of 2 equivalents of ligands and Ti(OiPr)4 in toluene at 70 °C. The X-ray structure of 2 revealed that the two ligands were κ2-coordinated to the titanium center with the two pyrrole nitrogen atoms in trans positions and the two imine nitrogen atoms in cis positions. All complexes were active initiators for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide (rac-LA), ε-caprolactone (ε-CL), and three substituted ε-caprolactones (γ-methyl-ε-caprolactone (γMeCL), γ-ethyl-ε-caprolactone (γEtCL), and γ-phenyl-ε-caprolactone (γPhCL)). Polymerizations of all monomers were well controlled, affording predetermined molar masses and narrow dispersity values. Complex 5 exhibited the highest polymerization activities with rac-LA and ε-CL and its performance was comparable to other highly active six-coordinate titanium complexes reported thus far. Kinetic results revealed a first-order dependency on the monomer concentration, and the rate of polymerization was greatly influenced by the substituent on the imine nitrogen. End-group analysis of the isolated PLA and PCL suggested a coordination-insertion mechanism.

Abstract
The zinc complexes 1 and 2 bearing chelating phosphorous based pincer ligands were found to catalyze the ring-opening copolymerization of L-lactide and ε-caprolactone in the melt at 110 °C to obtain a series of random copolymers in which the monomer distributions were coherent with the monomer ratio in the feed. All the obtained copolymers showed high molecular masses with monomodal and moderately narrow distributions. The thermal properties of the achieved copolymers (Tg, glass transition temperature, and Tm, melting temperature) were strongly dependent on their composition. A linear dependence of Tg with molar percentage of lactide in the copolymers was observed over a temperature range from -59 °C (pure polycaprolactone) to 55 °C (pure polylactide).

Abstract
A series of gallium complexes L12Ga4Me8 (1), L22Ga4Me8 (2), and L32Ga4Me8 (3) was synthesized by reaction of GaMe3 with Schiff base ligands L1-3H2 (L1H2 = 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}phenol; L2H2 = 2,4-dichloro-6-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}phenol; L3H2 = 4-tert-butyl-2-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}phenol) and characterized by 1H, 13C NMR, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray analysis (1, 2), proving their tetranuclear structure in the solid state. Complexes 1-3 showed good catalytic activity in the ring opening homopolymerization (ROP) and ring opening copolymerization (ROcoP) of lactide (LA) and ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) in the presence of benzyl alcohol (BnOH) in toluene at 100 °C, yielding polymers with the expected average molecular weights (Mn) and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWD), as well as a high isoselectivity for the ROP of rac-lactide (rac-LA), yielding isotactic-enriched PLAs with Pm values up to 0.78. Kinetic studies with complex 1 proved the first order dependence on monomer concentration, while mechanistic studies confirmed the coordination insertion mechanistic (CIM) pathway. Sequential addition of monomers gave well defined diblock copolymers of PCL-b-PLLA and PLLA-b-PCL, proving the living character of the polymerization reactions. The catalysts also showed perfect selectivity for the copolymerization of cyclohexene oxide (CHO) with both succinic anhydride (SA) and maleic anhydride (MA) in the presence of BnOH and produced >99% alternating block copolymers.

Abstract
Homogeneity of copolymers is a general problem of catalytic coordination polymerization. In ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters, the rational design of the catalyst is generally applied to solve this problem by the equalization of the reactivities of comonomers-however, it often leads to a reduction of catalytic activity. In the present paper, we studied the catalytic behavior of BnOH-activated complexes (ВНТ)Mg(THF)2nBu (1), (ВНТ)2AlMe (2) and [(ВНТ)ZnEt]2 (3), based on 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT-H) in homo- and copolymerization of L-lactide (lLA) and ε-caprolactone (εCL). Even at 1:5 lLA/εCL ratio Mg complex 1 catalyzed homopolymerization of lLA without involving εCL to the formation of the polymer backbone. On the contrary, Zn complex 3 efficiently catalyzed random lLA/εCL copolymerization; the presence of mono-lactate subunits in the copolymer chain clearly pointed to the transesterification mechanism of copolymer formation. Both epimerization and transesterification side processes were analyzed using the density functional theory (DFT) modeling that confirmed the qualitative difference in catalytic behavior of 1 and 3: Mg and Zn complexes demonstrated different types of preferable coordination on the PLA chain (k2 and k3, respectively) with the result that complex 3 catalyzed controlled εCL ROP/PLA transesterification, providing the formation of lLA/εCL copolymers that contain mono-lactate fragments separated by short oligo(εCL) chains. The best results in the synthesis of random lLA/εCL copolymers were obtained during experiments on transesterification of commercially available PLLA, the applicability of 3/BnOH catalyst in the synthesis of random copolymers of εCL with methyl glycolide, ethyl ethylene phosphonate and ethyl ethylene phosphate was also demonstrated.

Lanthanum complexes stabilized by a pentadentate Schiff-base ligand: synthesis, characterization, and reactivity in statistical copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and l-lactide. Abstract
Developing catalysts that are capable of catalyzing the copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and l-lactide to give random CL/LA copolymers is of great importance. One-pot reaction of La[N(SiMe3)2]3 with 1 equiv. of LH2 (LH2 = NH(CH2CH2N[double bond, length as m-dash]CHC6H2-3,5-tBu2-2-OH)2) in THF at room temperature, followed by protolysis with one equivalent amount of ROH (R = C6H2-2,6-tBu2-4-CH3, tBu, iPr, Bn, and Et) at 60 °C gave the mono-Schiff-base-ligated lanthanum aryloxide complex LLa(OC6H2-2,6-tBu2-4-CH3)(THF) (1), and lanthanum alkyloxide complexes LLaOtBu(THF) (2), [LLaOiPr]2 (3), [LLaOBn]2 (4), and [LLaOEt]2 (5) in 59-69% isolated yields. These lanthanum complexes were capable of initiating the homopolymerization of l-lactide and rac-lactide with extremely high activity, and the copolymerization of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and l-lactide (l-LA) to give statistical CL/LA copolymers via a transesterification reaction.

Abstract
Catalytic ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters (lactides, lactones) and cyclic ethylene phosphates is an effective way to process materials with regulated hydrophilicity and controlled biodegradability. Random copolymers of cyclic monomers of different chemical nature are highly attractive due to their high variability of characteristics. Aryloxy-alkoxy complexes of non-toxic metals such as derivatives of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxy magnesium (BHT-Mg) complexes are effective coordination catalysts for homopolymerization of all types of traditional ROP monomers. In the present paper, we report the results of density functional theory (DFT) modeling of BHT-Mg-catalyzed copolymerization for lactone/lactide, lactone/ethylene phosphate and lactide/ethylene phosphate mixtures. ε-Caprolactone (ε-CL), l-lactide (l-LA) and methyl ethylene phosphate (MeOEP) were used as examples of monomers in DFT simulations by the Gaussian-09 program package with the B3PW91/DGTZVP basis set. Both binuclear and mononuclear reaction mechanistic concepts have been applied for the calculations of the reaction profiles. The results of calculations predict the possibility of the formation of random copolymers based on l-LA/MeOEP, and substantial hindrance of copolymerization for ε-CL/l-LA and ε-CL/MeOEP pairs. From the mechanistic point of view, the formation of highly stable five-membered chelate by the products of l-LA ring-opening and high donor properties of phosphates are the key factors that rule the reactions. The results of DFT modeling have been confirmed by copolymerization experiments.

Abstract
A series of new trivalent rare-earth allyl-borohydride complexes with the formula [RE(BH4 )2 (C3 H5 )(thf)x ] (RE=Sc (1), x=2; RE=Y (2) and La (3), x=3) were synthesized by reaction of the corresponding rare-earth trisborohydrides [RE(BH4 )3 (thf)x ] with half an equivalent of bis(allyl)magnesium. The complexes were fully characterized by determining their X-ray structure. Similar to their previously described Nd (4) and Sm (5) analogues, these complexes display a monomeric structure with two terminal trihapto BH4 groups, one π-η3 allyl ligand, three THF molecules for complexes 2 and 3, and two THF molecules for complex 1. The catalytic behavior of complexes 1-5 toward the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of l-lactide (l-LA) and ϵ-caprolactone (ϵ-CL) was assessed. The Nd complex featured the best activity toward l-LA (turnover frequency (TOF)=1300 h-1 ) and the order was Nd>La>Sm>Y>Sc. Complexes 1-3 were found very active for the ROP of ϵ-CL (TOF=166 000 h-1 ), which is in line with the already established exceptionnally high performance of complexes 4 and 5. With both monomers, it was shown that the borohydride moiety was the preferentially initiating group, rather than the allyl one. The random copolymerization of l-LA and ϵ-CL was performed with complexes 1-5, in the absence or in the presence of benzyl alcohol as a chain-transfer agent, affording copolymers with ϵ-caprolactone up to 62 % inserted. The copolymers synthesized display a variety of microstructures, that is, blocky, random, or quasi-alternating.

Abstract
The stoichiometric reactions of 8-(2,6-R¹-4-R²-anilide)-5,6,7-trihydroquinoline (LH) with AlR₃ (R = Me or Et) afforded the aluminum complexes LAlR₂ (Al1⁻Al5,Al1: R¹ = iPr, R² = H, R = Me; Al2: R¹ = Me, R² = H, R = Me; Al3: R¹ = H, R² = H, R = Me; Al4: R¹ = Me, R² = Me, R = Me; Al5: R¹ = Me, R² = Me, R = Et) in high yields. All aluminum complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of complexes Al4 and Al5 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractions and revealed a distorted tetrahedral geometry at aluminum. In the presence of BnOH, complexes Al1⁻Al5 efficiently initiated the ring-opening homopolymerization of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and rac-lactide (rac-LA), respectively, in a living/controlled manner.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of aluminum alkyl and alkoxide complexes bearing racemic 6,6'-dimethylbiphenyl-bridged salen-type ligands, and their catalysis in the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide are reported. Reactions of AlMe3 with various amounts of the proligands (6,6'-[(6,6'-dimethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl)bis(nitrylomethilidyne)]-bis(2-R(1)-4-R(2)-phenol): , R(1) = R(2) = Me; , R(1) = (t)Bu, R(2) = Me; , R(1) = R(2) = cumyl; , R(1) = Br, R(2) = (t)Bu) afforded the corresponding mono- and dinuclear aluminum methyl complexes [AlMe (), Al2Me4 ()]. Aluminum alkoxide complexes AlO(i)Pr (), AlOBn (), and α-alkoxy ester complexes Al(OCMe2CO2Me) (), Al[(S)-OCHMeCO2Me] () were prepared via in situ alcoholysis of the parent aluminum methyl complex with the corresponding alcohols. The molecular structures of mononuclear complexes , dinuclear complex , alkoxide complexes and α-alkoxy ester complexes were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Two broad resonances at about 69-70 ppm and 25-41 ppm were observed in the (27)Al NMR spectra of complexes and , indicating the existence of both four- and five-coordinate aluminum centers in solution, which results from the dissociation of one N donor of the salen ligand, accompanied by an association and dissociation equilibrium of the carbonyl group of the α-alkoxy ester ligand to the aluminum center. Complex is also a rare example of an O-lactate model complex that mimics the first insertion of l-LA. All complexes were investigated for the ROP of rac-LA at 110 °C in toluene. The polymerization initiated by complexes in the presence of (i)PrOH showed living features, affording PLAs with narrow molecular weight distributions (PDIs = 1.03-1.05) and 65-73% isotacticities. Particularly, complex showed an "immortal" behavior for the polymerization of rac-LA in the presence of excess alcohol. Compared with the mononuclear counterparts, the tetra-coordinate dinuclear aluminum complexes enabled a few fold boosts in activity, but gave atactic PLAs with broadened PDIs.
