Abstract
In this report, nickel-catalyzed hydroboration of vinylarenes and aliphatic alkenes is investigated. The non-innocent phenalenyl ligand moiety in the nickel complex Ni(PLY)2(THF)2 (1) was utilized as an electron reservoir for the selective hydroboration reaction in the presence of pinacolborane under ambient conditions. The mechanistic investigations revealed that the alkene hydroboration reaction takes place through a single electron transfer (SET) from the phenalenyl ligand backbone leading to the cleavage of the B-H bond.

Abstract
A new method has been developed for the Markovnikov hydroboration of alkyl-substituted terminal alkenes. The use of bulky bisphosphine–copper(i) catalyst system resulted in high regioselectivity to afford the corresponding secondary alkylboronates (branch/linear = 92 : 8–97 : 3).

Abstract
The Ni-catalyzed hydroboration of dienols occurs in a 1,4 fashion and delivers a syn-propionate motif in high diastereoselectivity and with a stereodefined trisubstituted crotylboronic ester. The boronic ester can be further manipulated to provide carbon-carbon or carbon-oxygen bonds.

Abstract
Dimeric rhodium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes are demonstrated to be effective catalyst precursors for directed C-H borylation reactions at room temperature. The reactions are highly selective for mono-borylation and can be combined with a one-pot Suzuki-Miyaura coupling to give C-H arylation products with exclusive selectivity for mono-arylation without the requirement for steric blocking groups.

Abstract
Asymmetric hydroheteroarylation of alkenes represents a convenient entry to elaborated heterocyclic motifs. While chiral acids are known to mediate asymmetric addition of electron-rich heteroarenes to Michael acceptors, very few methods exploit transition metals to catalyze alkylation of heterocycles with olefins via a C-H activation, migratory insertion sequence. Herein, we describe the development of an asymmetric, intermolecular hydroheteroarylation reaction of α-substituted acrylates with benzoxazoles. The reaction provides 2-substitued benzoxazoles in moderate to excellent yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities. Notably, a series of mechanistic studies appears to contradict a pathway involving enantioselective protonation of a Rh(I)-enolate, despite the fact that such a mechanism is invoked almost unanimously in the related addition of aryl boronic acids to methacrylate derivatives. Evidence suggests instead that migratory insertion or beta-hydride elimination is enantiodetermining and that isomerization of a Rh(I)-enolate to a Rh(I)-heterobenzyl species insulates the resultant α-stereocenter from epimerization. A bulky ligand, CTH-(R)-Xylyl-P-Phos, is crucial for reactivity and enantioselectivity, as it likely discourages undesired ligation of benzoxazole substrates or intermediates to on- or off-cycle rhodium complexes and attenuates coordination-promoted product epimerization.

Abstract
An extremely efficient cobalt catalyst for the hydroboration of both vinylarenes and aliphatic α-olefins with pinacolborane is described, providing the anti-Markovnikov products with excellent regio- and chemoselectivity, broad functional-group tolerance, and high turnover numbers (up to 19,800). The alkene hydroboration route is further extended to a two-step, one-pot hydroboration and cross-coupling of alkylboronates with aryl chlorides.

Abstract
The present report develops the idea that an N-heterocyclic carbene incorporating a remote anionic functionality--here, a malonate group--as a backbone component of its heterocyclic framework, can be "post-functionalized" directly from its transition-metal complexes, upon simple addition of a variety of electrophiles interacting directly with the malonate group in the outer coordination sphere. From a palette of selected electrophilic reagents, it was thus possible to modulate the electronic donor properties of the carbene center over a rather broad range. Both the zwitterionic complex [Rh{malo-NHC}(cod)] and the cationic derivatives [Rh{malo-NHC(E)}(cod)](+) (where "malo-NHC(E)" represents the ligand modified by a selected electrophile "E") were used as pre-catalysts in two types of catalytic reactions, namely, the polymerization of phenylacetylene and the hydroboration of styrene. The results indicate that, in both cases, the zwitterionic species is by far the best catalyst, whereas a decrease in the ligand donicity induced by the added electrophile results in a concomitant reduction of catalytic activity. Apparent deviations to such a trend in the case of the hydroboration of styrene were rationalized in terms of an interaction between the reactive catecholborane substrate and the remote functionality of the N-heterocyclic carbene leading to an in situ modification of the nature of the active species. These observations serve as a useful basis to define the scope and limitations of the present conceptual approach in catalysis.

Abstract
The addition of Lewis acids such as trispentafluoroboron as cocatalysts has been found to have a dramatic effect on the Rh-catalyzed hydroboration of olefins with pinacol borane. For example, aliphatic olefins do not react at all in noncoordinating solvents, but with the addition of 2% of B(C(6)F(5))(3), the reaction is complete in minutes. Similarly, the reaction of aromatic olefins with HBPin occurs slowly and nonselectively in the absence of B(C(6)F(5))(3), but is accelerated and occurs more selectively in its presence. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the B(C(6)F(5))(3) needs to be present throughout the course of the reaction, not just at the initiation stage, and implicate this species, along with THF, in the heterolytic cleavage of the B-H bond of HBPin.
