Abstract
In order to develop efficient protocols for CO2 reduction with less expensive and more convenient hydrogen sources, the catalytic reactivities of group 10 metal hydride complexes supported by a PNCNP pincer ligand, [2,6-(tBu2PNH)2C6H3]MH (M = Ni, 1a; Pd, 1b; Pt, 1c), against the hydroboration of CO2 with NH3·BH3 and NaBH4 have been explored. Both 1a and 1b readily react with CO2 at room temperature to form the corresponding formato complexes, [2,6-(tBu2PNH)2C6H3]MOC(O)H (M = Ni, 2a; Pd, 2b), in nearly quantitative yields. Treatment of NH3·BH3 with CO2 (1 atm) in 1,4-dioxane or THF at room temperature in the presence of 0.05-1.0 mol % of 1b followed by hydrolysis of the resulting mixtures produces formic acid in 105-186% yields, and initial turnover frequencies of up to 2000 h-1 are observed. In the presence of 1.0 mol % of 1b, NaBH4 reacts with CO2 (1 atm) in THF at room temperature to form NaB[OC(O)H]4 (3) in 87% isolated yield. In situ NMR spectroscopy indicates that the reactions proceed through the insertion of the C═O bond in CO2 into the Pd-H bond in 1b to form 2b, which sequentially reacts with the hydrides in NH3·BH3 or NaBH4 to produce boron formato species and regenerate 1b. This work represents one of the rare examples of catalytic transfer hydrogenation of CO2 with NH3·BH3 to the formic acid level under very mild conditions without any additives and also the first example of 4 equiv of CO2 uptake by NaBH4 in a reaction.

Abstract
Diphosphino-boryl-based PBP pincer platinum thiolate complexes, [Pt(SR){B(NCH2PtBu2)2-1,2-C6H4}] (R = H, 1a; Ph, 1b), and benzene-based bisphosphinite POCOP pincer platinum thiolate complexes, [Pt(SR)(tBu2PO)2-1,3-C6H3] (R = H, 2a; Ph, 2b), were prepared and fully characterized by multinuclear NMR, X-ray crystallography, HRMS and elemental analyses. The application of these complexes in the catalytic hydrosilylation of aldehydes and ketones was investigated. It was found that these platinum thiolate complexes are efficient catalysts for the hydrosilylation of aldehydes and ketones at 65-75 °C. Comparatively, the PBP complexes are more active than the corresponding POCOP complexes. Both phenylsilane and polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) can be used as silyl reagents. The expected alcohols were obtained in good to excellent yields after the basic hydrolysis of the hydrosilylation products and many functional groups were not affected. With turnover frequencies (TOFs) of up to 67 000 h-1, the present catalytic system represents the most effective platinum catalytic system for the hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds. The reactions were likely catalysed by the in situ generated platinum hydride species.

Abstract
A family of biaryl phosphacyclic ligands derived from phobane and phosphatrioxa-adamantane frameworks is described. The rigid biaryl phosphacycles are efficient for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of aryl bromides and chlorides. In particular, coupling reactions of the challenging sterically hindered and heterocyclic substrates were viable at room temperature.

Abstract
In a novel template synthesis of carbodiphosphoranes (CDPs), the phosphine functionalized CDP ligand C(dppm)(2) (dppm = Ph(2)PCH(2)PPh(2)) is formed in the coordination sphere of group 10 metals from CS(2) and 4 equivalents of dppm. The products are the PCP pincer complexes [M(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) and 2 equivalents of dppmS. The compound C(dppm)(2), which is composed of a divalent carbon atom and two dppm subunits, represents a new PCP-type pincer ligand with the formally neutral carbon Lewis base of the CDP functionality as the central carbon. Treatment of [M(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl (M = Pd, Pt) with hydrochloric acid results in protonation at the CDP carbon atom and the formation of the PCP pincer complexes [M(Cl)(CH(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl(2) (M = Pd, Pt). The PCP pincer ligand [CH(dppm)(2)](+) involves a formally cationic central carbon donor. The reaction of [Ni(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl with HCl leads to the extrusion of NiCl(2) and formation of the diprotonated CDP compound [CH(2)(dppm)(2)]Cl(2), from which the monoprotonated conjugate base [CH(dppm)(2)]Cl is obtained upon addition of bases, such as NH(3). The crystal structures of [M(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl (M = Ni, Pd, Pt), [Ni(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)](2)[NiCl(4)], [M(Cl)(CH(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl(2) (M = Pd, Pt) as well as [CH(2)(dppm)(2)]Cl(2) and [CH(dppm)(2)]Cl are presented. A comparison of the solid state structures reveals interesting features, e.g. infinite supramolecular networks mediated by C-H···Cl hydrogen bond interactions and an unexpected loss of molecular symmetry upon protonation in the complexes [M(CH(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)(Cl)]Cl(2) (M = Pd, Pt) as a result of the flexible ligand backbone. Additionally the new compounds were characterized comprehensively in solution by multinuclear (31)P, (13)C and (1)H NMR spectroscopy: Several spectroscopic parameters show a striking variability in particular regarding the carbodiphosphorane functionality. Furthermore the compound [Ni(Cl)(C(dppm)(2)-κ3P,C,P)]Cl was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and could be shown to display quasi-reversible oxidative as well as reductive behaviour.

Abstract
Aryl-based pincer metal complexes with anionic terdentate ligands have been widely applied in organic synthesis, organometallic catalysis and other related areas. Synthetically, the most simple and convenient method for the construction of these complexes is the direct metal-induced C(aryl)-H bond activation, which can be fulfilled by choosing the appropriate functional donor groups in the two side arms of the aryl-based pincer preligands. In this perspective, we wish to summarize some results achieved by our group in this context. Successful examples include symmetrical chiral bis(imidazoline) NCN pincer complexes with Ni(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II), bis(phosphinite) and bis(phosphoramidite) PCP pincer Pd(II) complexes, unsymmetrical (pyrazolyl)phosphinite, (amino)phosphinite and (imino)phosphinite PCN pincer Pd(II) complexes, chiral (imidazolinyl)phosphinite and (imidazolinyl)phosphoramidite PCN pincer complexes with Ni(II) and Pd(II) as well as unsymmetrical (oxazolinyl)amine and (oxazolinyl)pyrazole NCN' pincer Pd(II) complexes. Among them, the P-donor containing complexes are efficiently synthesized by the "one-pot phosphorylation/metalation" method. The obtained symmetrical and unsymmetrical pincer complexes have been used as catalysts in Suzuki-Miyaura reaction (Pd), asymmetric Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indole with trans-β-nitrostyrene (Pt) as well as in asymmetric allylation of aldehyde and sulfonimine (Pd). In the Suzuki couplings conducted at 40-50 °C, some unsymmetrical Pd complexes exhibit much higher activity than the related symmetrical ones which can be attributed to their faster release of active Pd(0) species resulting from the hemilabile coordination of the ligands. Literature results on the synthesis of some related pincer complexes as well as their activities in the above catalytic reactions are also presented.
