Abstract
The first examples of regioselective aryl ortho-C-H functionalization with diphenyldiazomethane for the construction of Caryl-Nhydrazinato bonds were accomplished via the activation of C-H bonds and the subsequent reaction of diphenyldiazomethane with the RE-Caryl bond. The reactions of rare-earth metal monoalkyl complexes LRE(CH2SiMe3)(THF)2 (L = 2,5-[(2-pyrrolyl)CPh2]2(N-Me-pyrrole)) supported by a neutral N-methylpyrrole anchored dipyrrolyl ligand with 2 equiv. of Ph2CN2 gave irreversibly unprecedented hydrazonato-functionalized imino rare-earth metal complexes LRE(Ph2CNNC6H4-(o-CNHPh) (RE = Y (2a), Lu (2a')) in good yields involving a rather complex process including the interaction of a diazo unit with a RE-Calkyl bond, a β-H elimination, a N-N cleavage, 1,4-hydrogen transfer and the subsequent C-N coupling with another diphenyldiazomethane. More important is that regioselective aryl C-H bond functionalization with diphenyldiazomethane to construct the Caryl-Nhydrazinato bonds can be easily achieved by three-component reactions of rare-earth metal monoalkyl complexes, a wide range of substituted imines (including aldimines, ketimines or analogous 2-phenylpyridine) and diphenyldiazomethane, affording various hydrazonato-functionalized phenyl, thienyl imino or pyridyl rare-earth metal complexes 2b-2j at room temperature. A further study indicated that the substituents on the phenyl ring have a great effect on the reaction pathway and governed the Caryl-Nhydrazinato bond construction. Moreover, the experimental studies show that the formation of the Caryl-Nhydrazinato bonds is thermodynamically facile, which could be realized at room temperature easily.

Abstract
Various aryl- and heteroaryl-substituted 2-bromobiaryls are converted to cyclometalated lanthanum intermediates by reaction with nBu2 LaCl⋅4 LiCl. These resulting lanthanum heterocycles are key intermediates for the facile preparation of functionalized 2,2'-diiodobiaryls, silafluorenes, fluoren-9-ones, phenanthrenes, and their related heterocyclic analogues. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy was used to rationalize the proposed structures of the involved organolanthanum species.

Metallacyclic yttrium alkyl and hydrido complexes: synthesis, structures and catalytic activity in intermolecular olefin hydrophosphination and hydroamination. Dalton Trans 2015; 44:12137-48. Abstract
Metallacyclic neutral and ionic yttrium alkyl complexes coordinated by a dianionic ene-diamido ligand ([2,6-iPr2C6H3NC(Me)=C(Me)NC6H3iPr2-2,6] = L(1)) [L(1)]Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)2 (2), {[L(1)]Y(CH2SiMe3)2}(-){Li(THF)4}(+) (3), [L(1)]Y(OEt2)(μ-Me)2Li(TMEDA) (4) were synthesized using a salt-metathesis approach starting from the related chloro complex [L(1)]Y(THF)2(μ-Cl)2Li(THF)2 (1) in 70, 85 and 72% yields respectively. The reactions of 2 with H2 or PhSiH3 afford the dimeric hydride {[L(1)]Y(THF)(μ-H)}2(μ-THF) (5) containing two μ-bridging hydrido and one μ-bridging THF ligands (91 and 85% yields). The X-ray studies of complexes 2, 3 and 5 revealed η(2)-coordination of the C=C fragment of an ene-diamido ligand to a Y cation. DFT calculations were carried out to give an insight into the metal-ligand bonding and especially the interaction between the metal and the ene-diamido ligand. The observed bonding of the ene-diamido fragment is found to reflect the acidity of the metal center in the complex that is partially overcome by a better donation from the double bond (better overlap with an empty d orbital at the yttrium center). The treatment of complex 4 with DME resulted in the C-O bond cleavage of DME and afforded a three nuclear methoxide oxide complex [{[L(1)]Y}3(μ(2)-OMe)3(μ(3)-O)](2-)[Li(DME)3](+)2 (6). Complexes 2, 3, 5 and 7 proved to be efficient precatalysts for the intermolecular hydrophosphination of styrene, 4-vinylpyridine, and 1-nonene with PhPH2 and Ph2PH as well as hydroamination of styrene and pyrrolidine.

Abstract
An extremely rigid NNN-donor proligand, 4,5-bis{(diphenylmethylene)amino}-2,7,9,9-tetramethylacridan, H[AIm2] was prepared in five steps starting from 5-methyl-2-aminobenzoic acid and 4-bromotoluene. Reaction of intensely orange H[AIm2] with LiCH2SiMe3 formed deep blue Li(x)[AIm2]x (x = 2 in the solid state), while reaction with [Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2] (0.5 equiv.) afforded deep blue [Y(AIm2)(AIm)] (1; AIm = an AIm2 ligand cyclometalated at the ortho-position of one of the phenyl rings). Compound 1 slowly isomerizes to form green-brown 2, which contains a single trianionic, hexadentate ligand that features one amine, two imine, and three amido donors. The acridanide backbone and one imine group in each of the original AIm2 ligands is intact, but the two acridanide backbones are now linked by an isoindoline heterocycle. Yttrium in 2 is coordinated to six nitrogen donors and the ortho carbon of an isoindoline phenyl substituent. The intense colours of H[AIm2], Li(x)[AIm2]x and 1 were shown by TD-DFT calculations to arise from charge transfer transitions from the HOMO, which is localized on the acridanide ligand backbone, to the LUMO and LUMO+1, which are localized on the imine substituents. The conversion of 1 to 2 was studied by UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy and is first-order with a half-life of 7.8 hours at room temperature.

Abstract
The design and syntheses of four self-complementary oligomers that contain an underlying AADD hydrogen bond sequence are presented, and their self-association was examined in the solution and solid state. The molecular recognition between the two strands is highly sensitive to substitutions of their component heterocycles. Substitution with electron-donating and -withdrawing groups and the influence of preorganization has a large effect on the overall stabilities of the complexes studied. In particular, a wide range (>10(5) M(-1)) of stabilities with respect to substitutions at various positions in the AADD oligomers was demonstrated. In the most extreme case, the dimerization constant measured (K(dimer) ≥4.5×10(7) M(-1)) is comparable to the most stable homodimers of neutral AADD arrays reported to date.
