Abstract
A widely utilised class of ligands in synthesis and catalysis, β-diketiminate (BDI) or NacNac compounds were initially considered innocent in the sense that they remained intact in all their applications. That changed when the γ-C-H unit of their NCCCN backbone was found to engage in reactions with electrophiles. Here, we show that this special reactivity can be used advantageously to prepare tripodal modifications of the common NacNac ligand derived from 2,6-diisopropylphenyl-β-methyldiketimine [NacNacH (Me, Dipp)]. Lithiation to give NacNacLi, followed by reactions with isocyanates, isothiocyanates and a carbodiimide, have afforded a series of tripodal NacNac variants having N,N,N,O; N,N,N,S; or N,N,N,N potential dentation sites, many of which have been crystallographically characterised. Distinct ligating modes of these new ligands have been elucidated through the crystal structures of their lithiated derivatives.

Abstract
A series of C-functionalized β-ketoimine compounds at the terminal methyl groups of the β-ketoimine precursor LphH2 (Lph = C6H4[NC(Me)CHC(Me)O]2) were prepared. This convenient transformation was realized via straightforward double alkylation on the terminal Cα of a novel bis-dianionic β-ketoiminate lithium complex [Lph'Li4(THF)4]2 (Lph' = C6H4[NC(Me)CHC(O)CH2]2) followed by hydrolysis.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of a new low-symmetry β-diketimine featuring a pendant amino(methyl)phenol donor and its corresponding heteroleptic rare-earth (RE) complexes. This includes the first structurally characterized examples of alcoholysis and insertion from an isolated REIII amide in a β-diketimine framework. The flexible methylene linkage leads to REIII complexes with tunable dynamic solution behavior that defines their stoichiometric and catalytic reactivity. The addition of a strong neutral donor ligand, tricyclohexylphosphine oxide, suppresses a prevalent catalyst degradation pathway (base-promoted elimination) and dramatically enhances the catalyst performance in the stereospecific ring-opening polymerization of rac-β-butyrolactone. Our results further demonstrate the importance of ligand reorganization in the stoichiometric and catalytic activity of REIII ions.

Abstract
Reactivity of 1,3-disubstituted indolyl compounds with lithium reagents was studied to reveal the substituents and solvent effects on coordination modes and reactivities resulting in different indolyl lithium complexes. Treatment of 1-alkyl-3-imino functionalized compounds 1-R-3-(R'N═CH)C8H5N [R = Bn, R' = Dipp (HL1); R = Bn, R' = tBu (HL2); R = CH3OCH2, R' = Dipp (HL3); Dipp = iPr2C6H3] with Me3SiCH2Li or nBuLi in hydrocarbon solvents (toluene or n-hexane) produced 1,3-disubstituted-2-indolyl lithium complexes [η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(DippN═CH)C8H4NLi]2 (1), {[η1:(μ3-η1:η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(tBuN═CH)C8H4N][η2:η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(tBuN═CH)C8H4N][η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(tBuN═CH)C8H4N]Li3} (2), and [η1:η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-CH3OCH2-3-(DippN═CH)C8H4NLi]2 (3), respectively. The bonding modes of the indolyl ligand were kept in 1 by coordination with donor solvent, affording [η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(DippN═CH)C8H4NLi(THF)]2 (4). The trinuclear complex 2 was converted to dinuclear form with a change of bonding modes of the indolyl ligand by treatment of 2 with donor solvent THF, producing [η1:(μ2-η1:η1)-1-Bn-3-(tBuN═CH)C8H4NLi(THF)]2 (5). X-ray diffraction established that compounds 1, 3, 4, and 5 crystallized as dinuclear structures with the carbanionic sp2 carbon atoms of the indolyl ligands coordinated to lithium ions in a μ2-η1:η1 manner, while compound 2 crystallized as a trinuclear structure and the carbanionic atoms of the indolyl moieties coordinated to lithium ions in μ2-η1:η1 and μ3-η1:η1:η1 manners. When the lithiation reaction of HL1 with 1 equiv of nBuLi was carried out in THF, the monomeric lithium complex {η1:η1-1-Bn-3-(DippN═CH)-2-[1'-Bn-3'-(DippNCH)C8H5N]C8H4NLi(THF)} (6) having coupled indolyl moieties was obtained. The compound 6 can also be prepared by the reaction of 1 with 0.5 equiv of HL1 with a higher isolated yield. Accordingly, the lithium complexes [η1:η4-1-Bn-3-tBuN═CH-2-(1'-Bn-3'-tBuNCHC8H5N)C8H4NLi(L)] (L = THF, 7a; L = Et2O, 7b) with the coupled indolyl moieties in η4 mode were isolated by treatment of HL2 with 2 in THF or Et2O. All complexes were characterized by spectroscopic methods, and their structures were determined by X-ray diffraction study.

Abstract
The N-R-quinolinyl-8-amino ligands HL(1-3) (R = 2,6-(i)Pr(2)C(6)H(3) (HL(1)), 2,6-Et(2)C(6)H(3) (HL(2)), 2,6-Me(2)C(6)H(3) (HL(3))) have been prepared, which reacted readily with one equiv. of rare earth metal tris(alkyl)s to afford the corresponding bis(alkyl) complexes L(1)Y(CH(2)SiMe(3))(2)(THF) (1) and L(1-3)Lu(CH(2)SiMe(3))(2)(THF) (2-4) via alkane elimination. Contrastingly, treatment of the in situ generated neodymium tri(alkyl)s with HL(1) afforded a mono(alkyl) neodymium complex (5). Complexes 1, 2 and 5 in combination with aluminium alkyls and organoborates established homogenous ternary systems that exhibited versatile catalytic activities and trans-1,4 selectivities for the polymerization of butadiene, depending on the types of aluminium alkyl, organoborate and rare earth metal used. Furthermore, the trans-1,4 selective copolymerization of butadiene and isoprene was achieved by using the ternary system of 1/AlMe(3)/[Ph(3)C][B(C(6)F(5))(4)]. Both the kinetics of copolymerization and the thermal behavior of the copolymers were investigated.

Abstract
The phosphino–phenolate complex (κ2-{2-i-Pr2PC6H4}O)Ir(COD) (COD = η4-1,5-cyclooctadiene; 1) is shown to be an effective precatalyst for the intramolecular hydroamination of unactivated alkenes with pendant secondary alkylamines, providing either pyrrolidine or piperidine heterocycles in high isolated yields. While monitoring the progress of a selected test reaction of this type, a significant induction period (~3 h) was observed; variable-temperature 1H and 31P NMR studies (25–100 °C) under catalytically relevant conditions revealed no new metal-containing species. In an effort to develop an enantiopure variant of 1, a synthetic route to the chiral (κ2-P,O)Ir(COD) complex (7), which features a 1-aryl-2,5-dialkylphospholane structure derived from (2S,5S)-2,5-hexanediol cyclic sulfate, was developed. The structure of 7 was confirmed by use of single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. While 7 failed to provide enantioselectivity in the intramolecular hydroamination of unactivated alkenes with pendant secondary alkylamines, the activity of 7 was found to be comparable to that of 1.
