Abstract
Isolation of key intermediate complexes in dinitrogen functionalization is crucial for elucidating the mechanistic details and further investigation. Herein, the synthesis and characterization of (μ-η1:η1-N2)(η1-N2)-Cr(I) 3 and (η1-N2)2-Cr(0) complexes 4 supported by Cp* (Cp* = C5Me5) and NHC ligands were reported. Further functionalization of Cr(0)-N2 complex 4 with silyl halides delivered the key intermediates in the alternating pathway, the chromium diazenido complex 5 and the chromium side-on η2-hydrazido complex 6. Protonation of 6 led to the quantitative formation of N2H4. Moreover, the [η2-Me3SiNNSiMe3]2- unit in 6 enabled N-C bond formation reactions with CO2 and tBuNCO, giving the corresponding N,O-chelating hydrazidochromium complexes 7 and 8, respectively.

Abstract
Dinitrogen (N2 ) is the most abundant gas in Earth's atmosphere, but its inertness hinders its use as a nitrogen source in the biosphere and in industry. Efficient catalysts are hence required to ov. ercome the high kinetic barriers associated to N2 transformation. In that respect, molecular complexes have demonstrated strong potential to mediate N2 functionalization reactions under mild conditions while providing a straightforward understanding of the reaction mechanisms. This Review emphasizes the strategies for N2 reduction and functionalization using molecular transition metal and actinide complexes according to their proposed reaction mechanisms, distinguishing complexes inducing cleavage of the N≡N bond before (dissociative mechanism) or concomitantly with functionalization (associative mechanism). We present here the main examples of stoichiometric and catalytic N2 functionalization reactions following these strategies.

Abstract
This paper describes our recent progress in catalytic nitrogen fixation by using transition-metal-dinitrogen complexes as catalysts. Two reaction systems for the catalytic transformation of molecular dinitrogen into ammonia and its equivalent such as silylamine under ambient reaction conditions have been achieved by the molybdenum-, iron-, and cobalt-dinitrogen complexes as catalysts. Many new findings presented here may provide new access to the development of economical nitrogen fixation in place of the Haber-Bosch process.

Abstract
The synthesis of a series of P(Et)P(NRR(')) (P(Et)P(NRR(')) = Et2PCH2CH2P(CH2NRR')2, R = H, R' = Ph or 2,4-difluorophenyl; R = R' = Ph or (i)Pr) diphosphine ligands containing mono- and disubstituted pendant amine groups and the preparation of their corresponding molybdenum bis(dinitrogen) complexes trans-Mo(N2)2(PMePh2)2(P(Et)P(NRR('))) is described. In situ IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopic studies monitoring the stepwise addition of triflic acid (HOTf) to trans-Mo(N2)2(PMePh2)2(P(Et)P(NRR('))) complexes in tetrahydrofuran at -40 °C show that the electronic and steric properties of the R and R' groups of the pendant amines influence whether the complexes are protonated at Mo, a pendant amine, a coordinated N2 ligand, or a combination of these sites. For example, complexes containing monoaryl-substituted pendant amines are protonated at Mo and the pendant amine site to generate mono- and dicationic Mo-H species. Protonation of the complex containing less basic diphenyl-substituted pendant amines exclusively generates a monocationic hydrazido (Mo(NNH2)) product, indicating preferential protonation of an N2 ligand. Addition of HOTf to the complex featuring more basic diisopropyl amines primarily produces a monocationic product protonated at a pendant amine site, as well as a trace amount of dicationic Mo(NNH2) product that is additionally protonated at a pendant amine site. In addition, trans-Mo(N2)2(PMePh2)2(depe) (depe = Et2PCH2CH2PEt2) was synthesized to serve as a counterpart lacking pendant amines. Treatment of this complex with HOTf generated a monocationic Mo(NNH2) product. Protonolysis experiments conducted on several complexes in this study afforded trace amounts of NH4(+). Computational analysis of trans-Mo(N2)2(PMePh2)2(P(Et)P(NRR('))) complexes provides further insight into the proton affinity values of the metal center, N2 ligand, and pendant amine sites to rationalize differences in their reactivity profiles.

Abstract
Molybdenum(0) dinitrogen complexes, supported by the mixed NHC/phosphine pincer ligand PCP, exhibit an extreme activation of the N2 ligand due to a very π-electron-rich metal center. The low thermal stability of these compounds can be increased using phosphites instead of phosphines as coligands. Through an amalgam reduction of [MoCl3(PCP)] in the presence of trimethyl phosphite and N2 the highly activated and room-temperature stable dinitrogen complex [Mo(N2)(PCP)(P(OMe)3)2] is obtained. As a second product, the first transition metal complex containing the meta-phosphite ligand P(O)(OMe) originates from this reaction.

Abstract
It is vital to design effective nitrogen fixation systems that operate under mild
conditions, and to this end we recently reported an example of the catalytic
formation of ammonia using a
dinitrogen-bridged dimolybdenum
complex bearing a pincer ligand, where up to twenty three equivalents of
ammonia were produced based on
the catalyst. Here we study the origin of the catalytic behaviour of the
dinitrogen-bridged dimolybdenum
complex bearing the pincer ligand with density functional theory calculations, based
on stoichiometric and catalytic formation of ammonia from molecular dinitrogen under ambient conditions. Comparison of di- and
mono-molybdenum systems shows that the dinitrogen-bridged dimolybdenum core structure plays a critical
role in the protonation of the coordinated molecular dinitrogen in the catalytic cycle. Research into molecular catalysts for conversion of nitrogen into
ammonia under mild conditions is ongoing. Here, the authors synthesize a
dimolybdenum–nitride complex and verify the role of the dimetallic core in
the protonation of the coordinated dinitrogen.
