Abstract
In an investigation into the chemical reactions of N-propargyl pyrroles 1 a-c, containing aldehyde, keto, and ester groups on the pyrrole ring, with [Ru]-Cl ([Ru]=Cp(PPh3 )2 Ru; Cp=C5 H5 ), an aldehyde group in the pyrrole ring is found to play a crucial role in stimulating the cyclization reaction. The reaction of 1 a, containing an aldehyde group, with [Ru]-Cl in the presence of NH4 PF6 yields the vinylidene complex 2 a, which further reacts with allyl amine to give the carbene complex 6 a with a pyrrolizine group. However, if 1 a is first reacted with allyl amine to yield the iminenyne 8 a, then the reaction of 8 a with [Ru]-Cl in the presence of NH4 PF6 yields the ruthenium complex 9 a, containing a cationic pyrrolopyrazinium group, which has been fully characterized by XRD analysis. These results can be adequately explained by coordination of the triple bond of the propargyl group to the ruthenium metal center first, followed by two processes, that is, formation of a vinylidene intermediate or direct nucleophilic attack. Additionally, the deprotonation of 2 a by R4 NOH yields the neutral acetylide complex 3 a. In the presence of NH4 PF6 , the attempted alkylation of 3 a resulted in the formation the Fischer-type amino-carbene complex 5 a as a result of the presence of NH3, which served as a nucleophile. With KPF6, the alkylation of 3 a with ethyl and benzyl bromoacetates afforded the disubstituted vinylidene complexes 10 a and 11 a, containing ester groups, which underwent deprotonation reactions to give the furyl complexes 12 a and 13 a, respectively. For 13 a, containing an O-benzyl group, subsequent 1,3-migration of the benzyl group was observed to yield product 14 a with a lactone unit. Similar reactivity was not observed for the corresponding N-propargyl pyrroles 1 b and 1 c, which contained keto and ester groups, respectively, on the pyrrole ring.

Abstract
The first 5-substituted trihydro(azolyl)borate system, the sodium trihydro(5-CF3-pyrazol-1-yl)borate, Na[H3B(5-(CF3)pz)], has been synthesized by the reaction of 3-trifuoromethyl-pyrazole with NaBH4 in high yield. Na[H3B(5-(CF3)pz)] reacts with AgNO3 in the presence of monodentate tertiary phosphanes PR3 (PR3=P(C6H5)3, P(p-C6H4CH3)3, P(m-C6H4CH3)3, P(o-C6H4CH3)3, or PCH3(C6H5)2) to afford silver(I) bis(phosphane) adducts. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, FTIR, ESI-MS, and multinuclear (1H, 19F, and 31P) NMR spectroscopy. Solid-state structures of {[H3B(5-(CF3)pz)]Ag[P(C6H5)3]2} and {[H3B(5-(CF3)pz)]Ag[P(p-C6H4CH3)3]2} are also reported. They feature kappa2-N,H-bonded trihydro(pyrazolyl)borate ligands and pseudo-tetrahedral silver atoms.

Abstract
Complexes of the type TpRu(L)(NCMe)R [L = CO or PMe3; R = Ph or Me; Tp = hydridotris(pyrazolyl)borate] initiate C-H activation of benzene. Kinetic studies, isotopic labeling, and other experimental evidence suggest that the mechanism of benzene C-H activation involves reversible dissociation of acetonitrile, reversible benzene coordination, and rate-determining C-H activation of coordinated benzene. TpRu(PMe3)(NCMe)Ph initiates C-D activation of C6D6 at rates that are approximately 2-3 times more rapid than that for TpRu(CO)(NCMe)Ph (depending on substrate concentration); however, the catalytic hydrophenylation of ethylene using TpRu(PMe3)(NCMe)Ph is substantially less efficient than catalysis with TpRu(CO)(NCMe)Ph. For TpRu(PMe3)(NCMe)Ph, C-H activation of ethylene, to ultimately produce TpRu(PMe3)(eta3-C4H7), is found to kinetically compete with catalytic ethylene hydrophenylation. In THF solutions containing ethylene, TpRu(PMe3)(NCMe)Ph and TpRu(CO)(NCMe)Ph separately convert to TpRu(L)(eta3-C4H7) (L = PMe3 or CO, respectively) via initial Ru-mediated ethylene C-H activation. Heating mesitylene solutions of TpRu(L)(eta3-C4H7) under ethylene pressure results in the catalytic production of butenes (i.e., ethylene hydrovinylation) and hexenes.

Abstract
Compounds of rhodium(I) and rhodium(III) that contain ancillary hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate ligands (Tp') react with monodentate and bidentate tertiary phosphanes in a step-wise manner, with incorporation of P-donor atoms and concomitant replacement of the Tp' pyrazolyl rings. Accordingly, [Rh(kappa3-TpMe2)(C2H4)(PMe3)] (1b), converts initially into [Rh(kappa2-TpMe2)-(PMe3)2] (3), and then into [Rh(kappa1-TpMe2)-(PMe3)3] (2) upon interaction with PMe3 at room temperature, in a process which can be readily reversed under appropriate experimental conditions. Full disengagement of the Tp' ligand is feasible to give Tp' salts of rhodium(I) complex cations, for example, [Rh(CO)(dppp)2]-[TpMe2,4-Cl] (5; dppp = Ph2P(CH2)3PPh2), or [Rh(dppp)2][TpMe2,4-Cl] (6). Bis(hydride) derivatives of rhodium(III) exhibit similar substitution chemistry, for instance, the neutral complex [Rh(Tp)-(H)2(PMe3)] reacts at 20 degrees C with an excess of PMe3 to give [Rh(H)2-(PMe3)4][Tp] (9b). Single-crystal X-ray studies of 9b, conducted at 143 K, demonstrate the absence of bonding interactions between the [Rh(H)2(PMe3)4]+ and Tp ions, the closest Rh...N contact being at 4.627 A.
