Abstract
Optically pure P-stereogenic monophosphorus ligands containing a heterocyclic substituent have been prepared. They have been coordinated to Ru-η6-arene moieties in which the ligands act as mono- or bidentate. The complexes catalyse asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions with up to 70% ee.

Abstract
Ethylene, the simplest alkene, is the most abundantly synthesized organic molecule by volume. It is readily incorporated into transition-metal-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions through migratory insertions into alkylmetal intermediates. Because of its D2h symmetry, only one insertion outcome is possible. This limits byproduct formation and greatly simplifies analysis. As described within this Minireview, many carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions incorporate a molecule (or more) of ethylene at ambient pressure and temperature. In many cases, a useful substituted alkene is incorporated into the product.

Abstract
Residual stereoisomerism is a form of stereoisomerism scarcely considered so far for applicative purposes, though extremely interesting, since the production of stereoisomers does not involve classical rigid stereogenic elements. In three-bladed propeller-shaped molecules, a preferred stereomerization mechanism, related to the correlated rotation of the rings, allows the free interconversion of stereoisomers inside separated sets (the residual stereoisomers) that can interconvert through higher energy pathways. In light of possible future applications as chiral ligands for transition metals in stereoselective processes, some C(3)-symmetric phosphorus-centered propellers, which could exist as residual enantiomers, are synthesized and the possibility of resolving their racemates into residual antipodes is explored. While the tris(aryl)methanes are configurationally stable at room temperature, only selected tris(aryl)phosphane oxides display a configurational stability high enough to allow resolution by HPLC on a chiral stationary phase (CSP HPLC) at a semipreparative level at room temperature. Stability was evaluated through different techniques (circular dichroism (CD) signal decay, dynamic CSP HPLC (CSP DHPLC), dynamic NMR analysis (DNMR)) and the results compared and discussed. Phosphanes were found much less stable than the corresponding phosphane oxides, for which preliminary calculations suggest that the three-ring-flip enantiomerization mechanism (M(0)) would be easier than phosphorus pyramidal inversion. The parameters affecting the configurational stability of the residual enantiomers of C(3)-symmetric propellers are discussed.

Abstract
Through a systematic examination of ligand and counterion effects, new protocols for a nearly quantitative and highly selective codimerization of ethylene and various functionalized vinylarenes have been discovered. In a typical reaction, 4-bromostyrene and ethylene undergo codimerization in the presence of 0.0035 equiv each of [(allyl)NiBr]2, triphenylphosphine, and AgOTf in CH2Cl2 at -56 degrees C to give 3-(4-bromophenyl)-1-butene in >98% yield and selectivity. Corresponding reactions with [(allyl)PdX]2 are much less efficient and less selective and may require further optimization before a viable system can be identified. Another useful protocol that gives comparable yield and selectivity involves the use of a single-component catalyst prepared from allyl 2-diphenylphosphinobenzoate, Ni(COD)2, and (C6F5)3B. Recognition of a synergistic relationship between a chiral hemilabile ligand (for example, (R)-2-methoxy-2'-diphenylphosphino-1,1'-binaphthyl, MOP) and a highly dissociated counteranion (BARF or SbF6) in an enantioselective version of the Ni-catalyzed reaction raises the prospects of developing a practical route for the synthesis of 3-arylbutenes. Several pharmaceutically relevant compounds, including widely used 2-arylpropionic acids, can be synthesized from these key intermediates. This reaction appears to be quite general. Synthesis of several new 2-diphenylphosphino-1,1-binaphthyl derivatives, prepared to probe the effect of hemilabile coordination on the efficiency and selectivity of the reaction, are also described.

Abstract
A series of organometallic reagents containing orthometalated chiral amine auxiliaries have been utilized as chiral templates to activate phospholes, vinylphosphines, and alkynylphosphines toward asymmetric ligand transformations via cycloaddition and hydroamination reactions. By a systemic manipulation of the subtle stereoelectronic properties of the auxiliaries and the metal centers, the template properties could be modified and the origins of stereoselectivity revealed. The chiral templates are able to control the disposition of selected functionalities into designated locations on the transformed P-stereogenic mono- and diphosphine ligands. This Account provides an overview of our recent work in this area.

Abstract
The addition of ethylene to 1,3-dienes and 1-vinylcycloalkenes, catalyzed by two ruthenium complexes, proceeds in a regioselective fashion to afford 3-methyl-1,4-dienes as products. For a steroidal-based 1-vinylcycloalkene, the addition is stereospecific, giving a product with a 20(S) configuration. [reaction: see text]

Abstract
The synthesis of P,P'-dimesityl-P,P'-diphenyldiphosphine and benzylmesitylphenylphosphine is described as well as the resolution of the latter ligand by means of homochiral organometallic complexes. The absolute configuration of the phosphine is assigned by NMR spectra, using the homochiral palladacycle as a reference point. The configuration has been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Molecular mechanics calculations were performed in [PdCl-(R)-(+)-C10H6CH(Me)NH2(PBnMesPh)], and showed that the rotation around the Pd-P bond is restricted in this complex. [Pd(eta3-2-MeC3H4)Cl(PBnMesPh)] was obtained and used as a precursor in the catalytic hydrovinylation of styrene. Benzylmesitylphenylphosphine has a strong tendency to form phosphapalladacycles by activation of one of the ortho-methyl groups. The formation of this metallacycle from cyclopalladated N-donor derivatives by a ligand-exchange reaction is also described.
