Abstract
A novel synthetic pathway to approach 3-(imino)isoindolin-1-ones by the Co-catalyzed cyclization reaction of 2-bromobenzamides with carbodiimides has been developed. This catalytic reaction can tolerate a variety of substituents and provide corresponding products in moderate yields for most cases. According to the literature, the reaction mechanism is proposed through the formation of a five-membered aza-cobalacycle complex, which carries out the following reaction subsequence, including nucleophilic addition and substitution, to furnish the desired structures.

Abstract
An efficient nickel-promoted selective monocyanation of benzamides with TMSCN via 8-aminoquinoline directed ortho C-H activation has been developed. Varieties of functionalized ortho-cyanated (hetero)aryl nitriles can be selectively synthesized in moderate to good yields. These cyanation products can be easily transformed into various 3-imino-1-oxoisoindolines in a one-pot procedure. The mild reaction conditions, use of cheap and commercially available reagents, wide functional group tolerance, and operational convenience make this protocol practical to the synthetic community.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed formal [4 + 1] cycloaddition of benzamides and isonitriles via 8-aminoquinoline-directed C-H cleavage has been developed. The reaction proceeds well even in the presence of a base metal catalyst, CuBr·SMe2, alone to deliver the corresponding 3-iminoisoindolinones in good yields. Moreover, the unique acceleration effects of diphenyl sulfide are also disclosed.

Abstract
This report presents the single crystal X-ray structures of several substituted isoindolines that have been frequently used as starting materials for phthalocyanines, phthalocyanine analogs and related chelates. The structures of 1,3-diiminoisoindoline (1), 1,3-bis(hydroxyimino)isoindoline (2), 1,4-diaminophthalazine (3), 1,1,3-trichloroisoindoline (4) and 3-imino-1-oxoisoindoline (5) are reported; compounds 2 and 3 are synthesized from diiminoisoindoline (1) and 4 and 5 are produced from phthalimide. All five compounds are planar macrocycles, and localization of double bonds can be readily determined. We elucidated one of the known structures of 1 at low temperature, and observed two additional new structures of 1. For the crystal forms of 1 and compounds 2, 3, and 5, hydrogen bonding in the solid state was observed. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 form extended hydrogen bonded arrays in the solid state, whereas 5 forms discrete hydrogen bonded dimers.

Abstract
Isocyanide insertion: the first rhodium-catalyzed annulation of N -benzoylsulfonamide incorporating with isocyanide via C-H activation is described. The transformation is broadly compatible with N -benzoylsulfonamides bearing various electron-properties as well as isocyanides. From practical point of view, this methodology provides the most straightforward approach to a series of 3-(imino)isoindolinones.

Abstract
Six new 4-amino-5-cyano-2,6-diarylpyrimidines 5a-h has been synthesized in a facile manner by reacting the appropriate arylamidines 4a-d with bisnitriles 3a-e. Reduction of the nitro group of 5a-e using Pd in ethyl acetate furnished 6a-e in good yields. Reaction of 6a-e individually with phthalic anhydride yielded 7a-e in good to excellent yields. The newly synthesized heterocycles were characterized by IR, (1)H-NMR and mass spectral data. Compounds 5f-h and 7a-e were also evaluated against inflammation. Pyrimidines 5g, h exhibited better antiinflammatory activity when compared with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). Phthalimide derivatives 7a-e also presented antiinflammatory activity, and three of them, viz., 7a-c have been found to be twice more active than aspirin. Cytotoxical evaluations of compounds 7a-e using neoplastic cells (NCI-H(292) and Hep-2) presented 41% of growth inhibition of neoplastic cells NCI-H(292).

Abstract
Nickel dithiolene complexes symmetrically appended with hydrogen-bond donor/acceptor functionalities such as imide, amide, or cyano/amide groups have been synthesized by a straightforward method of wide applicability starting from one single precursor. Single-crystal X-ray structures reveal the occurrence of one type of ribbon common to all compounds that is based on a recurrent self-complementary intermolecular hydrogen-bonded ring motif linking the symmetrically substituted complexes.

Abstract
A series of 3-imino-1-oxoisoindolines were shown to be potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents at 8 mg/kg, intraperitoneally in mice. The compounds were also able to protect against lipopolysaccharide induced endotoxic shock and death better than the current clinical agents. These agents appear to function by blocking the release of TNF alpha and IL-1 from macrophages as well as competition with their respective high affinity receptors on target tissue, eg. fibroblasts, and macrophages. In addition lysosomal hydrolytic enzymes were inhibited as well as leukotriene synthesis in macrophages by the agents.
