Abstract
Pulsed slit-jet high resolution (up to 0.0009 cm(-1) FWHM) infrared diode laser spectra of CF(3)Br, with natural isotopic abundance, were obtained in the region around 9.2 microm at the rotational temperature of about 50 K. In addition, diode laser spectra at reduced temperature (200 K) were recorded. We present here the rovibrational analysis of the nu(1) fundamental in the range 1075-1090 cm(-1). The fine structure of many P(J) and R(J) clusters has been well resolved for the first time. The assignment of rovibrational transitions has been accomplished up to K = 27, J = 63 for CFBr and K = 33, J = 62 for CFBr. A total of 636 (CFBr) and 880 (CFBr) lines were used in the final fit and a very accurate set of molecular constants, including the quartic centrifugal distortion coefficients for the v(1) = 1 state of both the bromine isotopologues, was obtained. In addition, spectral features belonging to the nu(1) + nu(6)-nu(6) hot band were unambiguously identified and a set of spectroscopic parameters were determined.

Abstract
Two distributed-feedback (InGaAsP) diode lasers were used to record high-resolution absorption spectra of the parallel and the perpendicular components of the 2nu(4) band of methyl chloride (CH(3)Cl) and the 2nu(3) band of methane (CH(4)) near 1.65 mum. The room-temperature absorption measurements, which were conducted in a multipass cell with a variable path length (878-1020 cm), were used to determine the mole fractions of the constituent gases and thus demonstrate species-specific, nonintrusive concentration measurements of species with overlapping spectra.

Abstract
High-resolution IR remote-sensing measurements from space by means of a nadir-viewing geometry are particularly suited to the detection of trace gases and yield high temporal and horizontal resolutions on a global scale. To identify the potential of such a technique, an extensive feasibility study has been performed. The column amount of some trace gases, namely H(2)O, CH(4), N(2)O, CO, and O(3), may be determined with accuracies of approximately 10%. In addition, some information on the vertical distribution of these species is also possible. Concerning CFC-12, an accuracy of 10%-20% may be expected. Furthermore, it is believed that column amounts can be derived with an accuracy of 20% for HNO(3), and 50% for species like NO(2), OCS, and CFC-11.

Abstract
During the night from May 17 to May 18, 1989, the first of four flights of the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding, Balloon-borne version (MIPAS-B) instrument took place from the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales balloon-launching site at Aire-sur-l'Adour (France, 44° N latitude). From approximately 33 km float altitude, stratospheric and tropospheric limb infrared emission spectra have been recorded by this novel type of fast-scanning interferometer. Although the measured spectra did not reach the expected quality and the a priori information on the corresponding viewing directions was coarse, the data were processed successfully with a retrieval algorithm specially adapted for application to noisydata. Mixingratio profiles of ozone, nitric acid, CFC-11, and CFC-12 havebeen retrieved from limb sequences of wide spectral intervals by nonlinear least-squares fitting in combination with a layer-bylayer onion-peeling approach. A rigorous error analysis has been carried out by means of Monte Carlo calculations.

Abstract
The ATMOS (atmospheric trace molecule spectroscopy) instrument, a high speed Fourier transform spectrometer operating in the middle IR (2.2-16 microm), recorded more than 1500 solar spectra at approximately 0.0105-cm(-1) resolution during its first mission onboard the shuttle Challenger in the spring of 1985. These spectra were acquired during high sun conditions for studies of the solar atmosphere and during low sun conditions for studies of the earth's upper atmosphere. This paper describes the steps by which the telemetry data were converted into spectra suitable for analysis, the analysis software and methods developed for the atmospheric and solar studies, and the ATMOS data analysis facility.
