Abstract
The Streptomyces strain G222, isolated from a Vietnamese marine sediment, was confidently identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Its AcOEt crude extract was successfully analyzed using non-targeted LC-MS/MS analysis, and molecular networking, leading to a putative annotation of its chemical diversity thanks to spectral libraries from GNPS and in silico metabolite structure prediction obtained from SIRIUS combined with the bioinformatics tool conCISE (Consensus Annotation Propagation of in silico Elucidations). This dereplication strategy allowed the identification of an interesting cluster of a series of putative cyclic and linear lipopeptides of the lichenysin and surfactin families. Lichenysins (3-7) were isolated from the sub-fraction, which showed significant anti-biofilm activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa MUC-N1. Their structures were confirmed by detailed 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy (COSY, HSQC, HMBC, TOCSY, ROESY) recorded in CD3OH, and their absolute configurations were determined using the modified Marfey's method. The isolated lichenysins showed anti-biofilm activity at a minimum concentration of 100 µM. When evaluated for antibacterial activity against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains, two isolated lichenysins exhibited selective activity against the MRSA strain without affecting its growth curve and without membranotropic activity. This study highlights the power of the MS/MS spectral similarity strategy using computational methods to obtain a cross-validation of the annotated molecules from the complex metabolic profile of a marine sediment-derived Streptomyces extract. This work provides the first report from a Streptomyces strain of combined cyclic and linear lichenysins and surfactins, known to be characteristic compounds of the genus Bacillus.

Abstract
Antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) suppress the growth of infectious pathogens. These pathogens negatively impact agricultural production worldwide and often cause health problems if left untreated. Here, we evaluate six Bacillus strains (BPR-11, BPR-12, BPR-13, BPR-14, BPR-16 and BPR-17), which are known for their ability to survive harsh environmental conditions, as AGP replacements in animal feed. Four of these Bacillus strains (BPR-11, BPR-14, BPR-16 and BPR-17) showed antimicrobial activity against the pathogenic strains Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus at 25 μg/mL, with BPR-16 and BPR-17 also able to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella enterica at 100 μg/mL. Further chemical investigation of BPR-17 led to the identification of eight metabolites, namely C16, C15, C14 and C13 surfactin C (1-4), maculosin (5), maculosine 2 (6), genistein (7) and daidzein (8). Purified compounds (1-4) were able to inhibit all the tested pathogens with MIC values ranging from 6.25 to 50 μg/mL. Maculosin (5) and maculosine 2 (6) inhibited C. perfringens, E. coli and S. aureus with an MIC of 25 μg/mL while genistein (7) and daidzein (8) showed no activity. An animal trial involving feeding BPR-11, BPR-16 and BPR-17 to a laboratory poultry model led to an increase in animal growth, and a decrease in feed conversion ratio and mortality. The presence of surfactin C analogues (3-4) in the gut following feeding with probiotics was confirmed using an LC-MS analysis. The investigation of these Bacillus probiotics, their metabolites, their impacts on animal performance indicators and their presence in the gastrointestinal system illustrates that these probiotics are effective alternatives to AGPs.

Abstract
Micromonospora, one of the most important actinomycetes genera, is well-known as the treasure trove of bioactive secondary metabolites (SMs). Herein, together with an in-depth genomic analysis of the reported Micromonospora strains, all SMs from this genus are comprehensively summarized, containing structural features, bioactive properties, and mode of actions as well as their biosynthetic and chemical synthesis pathways. The perspective enables a detailed view of Micromonospora-derived SMs, which will enrich the chemical diversity of natural products and inspire new drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract
A group of peptide metabolites (1–4), designated as mintaimycins, were isolated from Micromonospora sp. C-3509. The planar structures of mintaimycins were determined by combination of mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, and the stereochemistry of mintaimycins were partially resolved by Marfey’s or Mosher’s method. Mintaimycins featured a central β-methylphenylalanine or phenylalanine linked at its amino group with 5-methyl-2-hexenoic acid, and at its carboxyl group with 5-hydroxy-norleucine or leucine that combined a derivative of hexanoic acid or 4-methylpentanoic acid. Mintaimycin A1 (1), the principal component, was found to exhibit the biological activity of inducing pre-adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 fibroblast cells at 10.0 μmol/L.

Abstract
Surfactins are natural biosurfactants with myriad potential applications in the areas of healthcare and environment. However, surfactins were almost exclusively produced by the bacterium Bacillus species in previous reported literatures, together with difficulty in isolating pure monomer, which resulted in making extensive effort to remove duplication and little discovery of new surfactins in recent years. In the present study, the result of Molecular Networking indicated that Limimaricola sp. SCSIO 53532 might well be a potential resource for surfacin-like compounds based on OSMAC strategy. To search for new surfactins with significant biological activity, further study was undertaken on the strain. As a result, ten new surfactins (1-10), along with twenty known surfactins (11-30), were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of SCSIO 53532. Their chemical structures were established by detailed 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, HRESIMS data, secondary ion mass spectrometry (MS/MS) analysis, and chemical degradation (Marfey's method) analysis. Cytotoxic activities of twenty-seven compounds against five human tumor cell lines were tested, and five compounds showed significant antitumor activities with IC50 values less than 10 μM. Furtherly, analysis of structure-activity relationships revealed that the branch of side chain, the esterification of Glu or Asp residue, and the amino acid residue of position 7 possessed a great influence on antitumor activity.

Abstract
Extreme natural habitats like halophytes, marsh land, and marine environment are suitable arena for chemical ecology between plants and microbes having environmental impact. Endophytes are an ecofriendly option for the promotion of plant growth and to serve as sustainable resource of novel bioactive natural products. The present study, focusing on biodiversity of bacterial endophytes from Salicornia brachiata, led to isolation of around 336 bacterial endophytes. Phylogenetic analysis of 63 endophytes revealed 13 genera with 27 different species, belonging to 3 major groups: Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria. 30% endophytic isolates belonging to various genera demonstrated broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activities against a panel of human, plant, and aquatic infectious agents. An endophytic isolate Bacillus amyloliquefaciens 5NPA-1, exhibited strong in-vitro antibacterial activity against human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and phytopathogen Xanthomonas campestris. Investigation through LC-MS/MS-based molecular networking and bioactivity-guided purification led to the identification of three bioactive compounds belonging to lipopeptide class based on 1H-, 13C-NMR and MS analysis. To our knowledge, this is the first report studying bacterial endophytic biodiversity of Salicornia brachiata and the isolation of bioactive compounds from its endophyte. Overall, the present study provides insights into the diversity of endophytes associated with the plants from the extreme environment as a rich source of metabolites with remarkable agricultural applications and therapeutic properties.

Abstract
A marine-sediment-derived bacterium Bacillus velezensis SH-B74 can produce cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs). This study presented the isolation, characterization, and activity evaluation of a new CLP from the bacterial cultures of the strain SH-B74. Multiple chromatographic methods (solid-phase extraction and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography) were applied to the purifying procedure of CLP, and the structural characterization of the new CLP was conducted by various spectroscopy (1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance together with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and spectrometry (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, high-resolution mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry) techniques as well as Marfey's method. The results displayed that the new CLP (anteiso-C15 Ile2,7 surfactin, 1) consists of a peptidic backbone of L-Glu1, L-Ile2, D-Leu3, L-Val4, L-Asp5, D-Leu6, L-Ile7, and an anteiso-C15 type saturated fatty acid chain. Further activity assay showed that the new CLP displays activity on the inhibition of the appressoria formation of rice blast causal pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. To sum up, the results presented the perspective of potential application of the new CLP as a green agrichemical to control M. oryzae.

Isolation, Identification and Antimicrobial Evaluation of Bactericides Secreting Bacillus subtilis Natto as a Biocontrol Agent. Processes (Basel) 2020. Abstract
Herein, a bactericide-secreting Bacillus strain, potentially useful as a biocontrol agent, was isolated from the commercial Yanjing Natto food. Following the biochemical and physiological evaluation, the molecular identification was performed using 16S rDNA sequencing of polymerase chain reaction-amplified DNA that confirmed the natto isolate as Bacillus subtilis natto (B. subtilis natto). The biocontrol (microbial inhibitory) capability of B. subtilis natto was investigated against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and yeast (Yarrowia lipolytica) and recorded. The antimicrobial activity of B. subtilis natto was further enhanced by optimizing the growth medium for optimal bactericides secretion. Under optimized conditions, B. subtilis natto exhibited much higher inhibitory activity against S. aureus with a zone of inhibition diameter up to 27 mm. After 48 h incubation, the optimally yielded B. subtilis natto broth was used to extract and purify the responsible bactericides by silica gel column chromatography, gel column chromatography, and semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. Structural identification of purified bactericides (designated as NT-5, NT-6, and NT-7) from B. subtilis natto was performed by 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectral analyses. The NMR comparison also revealed that NT-5, NT-6, and NT-7 had identical structures, except for the fatty chain. In summary, the present study suggests the improved biocontrol and/or microbial inhibitory potential of newly isolated bactericides secreting B. subtilis natto.

Abstract
In this article, we consider a role for bacteria in shaping coronavirus infection. Taking cues from studies of enteric viruses, we initially investigated how bacterial surface components might improve CoV infection. Instead, we found that peptidoglycan-associated surfactin is a potent viricidal compound that disrupts virion integrity with broad activity against enveloped viruses. Our results indicate that interactions with commensal bacterial may improve or disrupt viral infections, highlighting the importance of understanding these microbial interactions and their implications for viral pathogenesis and treatment. Enteric viruses exploit bacterial components, including lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and peptidoglycan (PG), to facilitate infection in humans. Because of their origin in the bat enteric system, we wondered if severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) or Middle East respiratory syndrome CoV (MERS-CoV) also use bacterial components to modulate infectivity. To test this question, we incubated CoVs with LPS and PG and evaluated infectivity, finding no change following LPS treatment. However, PG from Bacillus subtilis reduced infection >10,000-fold, while PG from other bacterial species failed to recapitulate this. Treatment with an alcohol solvent transferred inhibitory activity to the wash, and mass spectrometry revealed surfactin, a cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic, as the inhibitory compound. This antibiotic had robust dose- and temperature-dependent inhibition of CoV infectivity. Mechanistic studies indicated that surfactin disrupts CoV virion integrity, and surfactin treatment of the virus inoculum ablated infection in vivo. Finally, similar cyclic lipopeptides had no effect on CoV infectivity, and the inhibitory effect of surfactin extended broadly to enveloped viruses, including influenza, Ebola, Zika, Nipah, chikungunya, Una, Mayaro, Dugbe, and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever viruses. Overall, our results indicate that peptidoglycan-associated surfactin has broad viricidal activity and suggest that bacteria by-products may negatively modulate virus infection.
