Abstract
In reconstructive surgery, complications post-fibula free flap (FFF) reconstruction, notably peri-implant hyperplasia, are significant yet understudied. This study analyzed peri-implant hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF, alongside peri-implantitis and foreign body granulation (FBG) tissues from patients treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Seoul National University Dental Hospital. Using light microscopy, pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia, anucleate and pyknotic prickle cells, and excessive collagen deposition were observed in FFF hyperplastic tissue. Ultrastructural analyses revealed abnormal structures, including hemidesmosome dilation, bacterial invasion, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) swelling. In immunohistochemical analysis, unfolded protein-response markers ATF6, PERK, XBP1, inflammatory marker NFκB, necroptosis marker MLKL, apoptosis marker GADD153, autophagy marker LC3, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and angiogenesis markers were expressed variably in hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF implants, peri-implantitis, and FBG tissues. NFκB expression was higher in peri-implantitis and FBG tissues compared to hyperplastic tissue surrounding FFF implants. PERK expression exceeded XBP1 significantly in FFF hyperplastic tissue, while expression levels of PERK, XBP1, and ATF6 were not significantly different in peri-implantitis and FBG tissues. These findings provide valuable insights into the interconnected roles of ER stress, necroptosis, apoptosis, and angiogenesis in the pathogenesis of oral pathologies, offering a foundation for innovative strategies in dental implant rehabilitation management and prevention.

Abstract
Mallory-Denk bodies (MDBs) are hepatocellular cytoplasmic inclusions, which occur in certain chronic liver diseases, such as alcohol-related (ASH) and metabolic dysfunction-associated (MASH) steatohepatitis, copper toxicosis, some drug-induced liver disorders, chronic cholangiopathies, and liver tumors. Our study focused on the expression of the senescence markers p21WAF1/cip1 and p16INK4a in hepatocytes containing MDBs in steatohepatitis, chronic cholangiopathies with fibrosis or cirrhosis, Wilson's disease, and hepatocellular carcinomas. Cytoplasm and nuclei of MDB-containing hepatocytes as well as MDB inclusions, except those associated with carcinoma cells, were strongly p16-positive, p21-positive, as well as p21-negative nuclei in MDB-containing hepatocytes which were observed whereas MDBs were p21-negative. Expression of the senescence marker p16 suggests that MDB formation reflects an adaptive response to chronic stress resembling senescence with its consequences, i.e., expression of inflammation- and fibrosis-prone secretome. Thus, senescence can be regarded as "double-edged sword" since, on the one hand, it may be an attempt of cellular defense, but, on the other, also causes further and sustained damage by inducing inflammation and fibrosis related to the senescence-associated secretory phenotype and thus progression of chronic liver disease.

Abstract
Liver tumors in children are uncommon and show remarkable morphologic heterogeneity. Pediatric tumors may arise from either the epithelial or mesenchymal component of the liver and rarely may also show both lines of differentiation. Both benign and malignant liver tumors have been reported in children. The most common pediatric liver tumors by age are benign hepatic infantile hemangiomas in neonates and infants, malignant hepatoblastoma in infants and toddlers, and malignant hepatocellular carcinoma in teenagers. Here, we provide an up-to-date review of pediatric liver tumors. We discuss the clinical presentation, imaging findings, pathology, and relevant molecular features that can help in the correct identification of these tumors, which is important in managing these children.

Abstract
The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) expresses the Serpinf1 gene to produce pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a retinoprotective protein that is downregulated with cell senescence, aging and retinal degenerations. We determined the expression of senescence-associated genes in the RPE of 3-month-old mice that lack the Serpinf1 gene and found that Serpinf1 deletion induced H2ax for histone H2AX protein, Cdkn1a for p21 protein, and Glb1 gene for β-galactosidase. Senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity increased in the Serpinf1 null RPE when compared with wild-type RPE. We evaluated the subcellular morphology of the RPE and found that ablation of Serpinf1 increased the volume of the nuclei and the nucleoli number of RPE cells, implying chromatin reorganization. Given that the RPE phagocytic function declines with aging, we assessed the expression of the Pnpla2 gene, which is required for the degradation of photoreceptor outer segments by the RPE. We found that both the Pnpla2 gene and its protein PEDF-R declined with the Serpinf1 gene ablation. Moreover, we determined the levels of phagocytosed rhodopsin and lipids in the RPE of the Serpinf1 null mice. The RPE of the Serpinf1 null mice accumulated rhodopsin and lipids compared to littermate controls, implying an association of PEDF deficiency with RPE phagocytosis dysfunction. Our findings establish PEDF loss as a cause of senescence-like changes in the RPE, highlighting PEDF as both a retinoprotective and a regulatory protein of aging-like changes associated with defective degradation of the photoreceptor outer segment in the RPE.

Prominent Pseudoacini in Focal Nodular Hyperplasia: A Potential Diagnostic Pitfall. Am J Surg Pathol 2022; 46:1380-1385. Abstract
Pseudoacini are generally a morphologic feature of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), being absent or rare in benign hepatocytic tumors, such as hepatocellular adenoma. However, rarely these can be seen in focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) and may pose diagnostic challenges, especially when prominent. The study was aimed to evaluate the occurrence of pseudoacini in FNH and their clinicopathologic correlations. A total of 95 FNH cases diagnosed from 2005 to 2020 were included in the study. A pseudoacinus was defined as a circular arrangement of hepatocytes around a central dilated lumen present within the lobular parenchyma of the lesion with or without inspissated bile. Among the 95 FNH cases, 28 (29.5%) showed pseudoacini, which were prominent in 12 (12.6%) cases. Of these 3 occurred in patients above 50 years old. The pseudoacini were numerous in 3 cases, leading to an initial consideration of HCC in the differential diagnosis, and 1 case was diagnosed as well-differentiated hepatocellular neoplasm on initial biopsy. All 12 cases showed map-like staining pattern for glutamine synthetase. The hepatocytes forming the pseudoacini were positive for CK7 and HepPar1, while the inner lumina were highlighted by CD10 and bile salt export pump immunostains similar to adjacent canaliculi. The presence of prominent pseudoacini was not significantly associated with any clinical or pathologic features. The findings suggest that pseudoacini are likely manifestation of hepatocyte biliary transdifferentiation associated with chronic cholestasis in the lesion. This feature may pose a potential diagnostic pitfall especially on needle biopsies and awareness is needed to avoid misdiagnosing this as HCC.
