Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to review the literature to explore some factors affecting sexual and partnership adjustment in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS This study was based on the methodological framework of scoping reviews, including 3 methodological steps: (1) identifying relevant studies (searching for related studies); (2) selecting related studies; (3) collecting key findings, summarizing, and reporting the results. The electronic databases were searched including Medline (PubMed), Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Studies were included if they reported data about the related factors of sexual and partnership adjustment in individuals with SCI. No limitations were considered in terms of time or methodology of the search. RESULTS After the full-text screening, 52 studies were included from the year of 1978 - 2019 with various methodologies. The present review demonstrated that proper sexual health among individuals with SCI is related to several factors including the anatomical factor, level of the injury, completeness of the injury, psycho-social factor, socio-economic status, and type of relationship. CONCLUSION With consideration of factors affecting sexual and partnership adjustment in individuals with SCI, a better estimation of sexual health can be achieved in clinical to improve the relationship and quality of life.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe caregiver burden according to the caregivers' general characteristics, especially with ageing, and type of care activities provided by caregivers of individuals with spinal cord injury. DESIGN A cross-sectional study was conducted utilizing a structured questionnaire that included general characteristics, health conditions, and caregiver burden. SETTING A single center study in Seoul, Korea. SUBJECTS Participants were recruited from 87 individuals with spinal cord injuries and 87 caregivers. METHODS The Caregiver Burden Inventory was used to assess caregiver burden. RESULTS Caregiver burden was significantly different by age (p = 0.001), relationship (p = 0.025), sleep hours (p = <0.001), underlying disease (p = 0.018), pain (p = <0.001), and daily activities of individuals with spinal cord injury (p = 0.001). Caregiver's age (B = 0.339, p = 0.049), sleep duration (B = -2.896, p = 0.012) and pain (B = 2.558, p < 0.001) predicted caregiver burden. Toileting assistance was the most challenging and time-consuming for caregivers, while patient transfer was associated with the greatest concerns for body injury. CONCLUSION Caregiver education should be targeted according to caregiver's age and type of assistance. Social policies need to be developed to distribute devices and care-robots to reduce caregiver burden and thereby assist caregivers.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Comparative case study OBJECTIVES: To elevate the voices of and capture the lived environmental and systems experiences of persons with spinal cord injury (PWSCI) and their caregivers, in transitions from inpatient rehabilitation to the community. Also, to examine the perceived and actual availability and accessibility of services and programs for this group. SETTING Inpatient rehabilitation unit and community in Calgary, Alberta, Canada METHODS: As a comparative case study, this research included multiple sources of data including brief demographic surveys, pre- and post-discharge semi-structured interviews, and conceptual mapping of services and programs for PWSCI and caregivers in Calgary, Canada (dyads). Three dyads (six participants) were recruited from an inpatient rehabilitation unit at an acute care facility, from October 2020 to January 2021. Interviews were analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis approach. RESULTS Dyads described transition experiences from inpatient rehabilitation to community as uncertain and unsupported. Breakdowns in communication, COVID-19 restrictions, and challenges in navigating physical spaces and community services were identified by participants as concerns. Concept mapping of programs and services showed a gap in identification of available resources and a lack of services designed for both PWSCI and their caregivers together. CONCLUSIONS Areas for innovation were identified that may improve discharge planning and community reintegration for dyads. There is an intensified need for PWSCI and caregiver engagement in decision-making, discharge planning and patient-centered care during the pandemic. Novel methods used may provide a framework for future SCI research in comparable settings.

Abstract
Increasingly, refined virtual reality (VR) techniques allow for the simultaneous and coherent stimulation of multiple sensory and motor domains. In some clinical interventions, such as those related to spinal cord injuries (SCIs), the impact of VR on people's multisensory perception, movements, attitudes, and even modulations of socio-cognitive aspects of their behavior may influence every phase of their rehabilitation treatment, from the acute to chronic stages. This work describes the potential advantages of using first-person-perspective VR to treat SCIs and its implications for manipulating sensory-motor feedback to alter body signals. By situating a patient with SCI in a virtual environment, sensorial perceptions and motor intention can be enriched into a more coherent bodily experience that also promotes processes of neural regeneration and plasticity. In addition to the great potential of research, the most significant areas of interest concern is managing neuropathic pain, motor rehabilitation, and psychological well-being.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate whether the combination of self-efficacy levels of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) or acquired brain injury (ABI) and their significant others, measured shortly after the start of inpatient rehabilitation, predict their personal and family adjustment 6 months after inpatient discharge. DESIGN Prospective longitudinal study. SETTING Twelve Dutch rehabilitation centers. PARTICIPANTS Volunteer sample consisting of dyads (N=157) of adults with SCI or ABI who were admitted to inpatient rehabilitation and their adult significant others. INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Self-efficacy (General Competence Scale) and personal and family adjustment (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and McMaster Family Assessment Device General Functioning). RESULTS In 20 dyads, both individuals with SCI or ABI and their significant others showed low self-efficacy at baseline. In 67 dyads, both showed high self-efficacy. In the low-self-efficacy dyads, 61% of the individuals with SCI or ABI and 50% of the significant others showed symptoms of anxiety 6 months after discharge, vs 23% and 30%, respectively, in the high-self-efficacy dyads. In the low-self-efficacy dyads, 56% of individuals with SCI or ABI and 50% of the significant others reported symptoms of depression, vs 20% and 27%, respectively, in the high-self-efficacy dyads. Problematic family functioning was reported by 53% of the individuals with SCI or ABI and 42% of the significant others in the low-self-efficacy dyads, vs 4% and 12%, respectively, in the high-self-efficacy dyads. Multivariate analysis of variance analyses showed that the combination of levels of self-efficacy of individuals with SCI or ABI and their significant others at the start of inpatient rehabilitation predict personal (V=0.12; F6,302=2.8; P=.010) and family adjustment (V=0.19; F6,252=4.3; P<.001) 6 months after discharge. CONCLUSIONS Low-self-efficacy dyads appear to be more at risk for personal and family adjustment problems after discharge. Screening for self-efficacy may help healthcare professionals to identify and support families at risk for long-term adjustment problems.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Prospective study. OBJECTIVES To analyze determinants of sexual pleasure in men with spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING Centre Bouffard-Vercelli, Cerbere, France. METHODS Face to face interviews with men with chronic SCI who had an active sex life with a female partner, reliable erections permitting intercourse, and sought regular counselling with a sex therapist. Questionnaires: the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and a modified Sexual History Form. RESULTS Thirty-three men were enroled. IIEF subscores were high for erectile function (mean 27.6/30), sexual desire (mean 8.8/10), intercourse satisfaction (mean 11.9/15) and overall satisfaction (mean 8.7/10). Overall satisfaction was significantly related to the level (p < 0.01) but not the severity of the lesion (p = 0.59), positively correlated with intercourse satisfaction (p < 0.001), negatively with age (p < 0.05) and age at injury (p < 0.01), but not with time since injury (p = 0.80). Orgasm was reported by 14 men (42%), and correlated strongly with antegrade ejaculation (p < 0.001), but not with overall satisfaction (p = 0.81). All men, except one, described enjoyable, long foreplay. Intercourse was associated with sensations of pleasure for 30 men (90%). After intercourse, 26 men (78%) experienced sensations of fulfilment, and 30 (90%) of relaxation. Most men expressed frustration, primarily in the case of absent or intermittent ejaculation or orgasm. Men described their female partners as taking more initiatives, and having a satisfactory sex life. CONCLUSIONS A positive and satisfying sex life is achievable by the men's willingness to adapt their sexual behaviour coupled with the reward of physical pleasure experienced during intercourse.
