Abstract
We present a method for mapping multifocal Pupillary Response Fields in a short amount of time using a visual stimulus covering 40° of the visual angle divided into nine contiguous sectors simultaneously modulated in luminance at specific, incommensurate, temporal frequencies. We test this multifocal Pupillary Frequency Tagging (mPFT) approach with young healthy participants (N = 36) and show that the spectral power of the sustained pupillary response elicited by 45 s of fixation of this multipartite stimulus reflects the relative contribution of each sector/frequency to the overall pupillary response. We further analyze the phase lag for each temporal frequency as well as several global features related to pupil state. Test/retest performed on a subset of participants indicates good repeatability. We also investigate the existence of structural (RNFL)/functional (mPFT) relationships. We then summarize the results of clinical studies conducted with mPFT on patients with neuropathies and retinopathies and show that the features derived from pupillary signal analyses, the distribution of spectral power in particular, are homologous to disease characteristics and allow for sorting patients from healthy participants with excellent sensitivity and specificity. This method thus appears as a convenient, objective, and fast tool for assessing the integrity of retino-pupillary circuits as well as idiosyncrasies and permits to objectively assess and follow-up retinopathies or neuropathies in a short amount of time.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Detailed clinical assessment is critical to allow sensitive evaluation of the eye and its management. As technology advances, these assessment techniques can be adapted and refined to improve the detection of pathological changes of ocular tissue and their impact on visual function. Enhancements in optical medical devices including spectacle, contact, and intraocular lenses have allowed for a better understanding of the mechanism and amelioration of presbyopia and myopia control. Advancements in imaging technology have enabled improved quantification of the tear film and ocular surface, informing diagnosis and treatment strategies. Miniaturized electronics, large processing power, and in-built sensors in smartphones and tablets capacitate more portable assessment tools for clinicians, facilitate self-monitoring and treatment compliance, and aid communication with patients. This article gives an overview of how technology has been used in many areas of eye care to improve assessments and treatment and provides a snapshot of some of my studies validating and using technology to inform better evidence-based patient management.

Abstract
Background Glaucoma is a group of ocular conditions that leads to irreversible blindness. It can affect the vision-related quality of life in many ways. In Ethiopia, limited information is available on how and to what extent the vision-related quality of life of the glaucoma population has been affected. Objective This study attempted to assess the vision-related quality of life and associated factors among an adult population with glaucoma attending Felege Hiwot Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods The cross-sectional study was conducted on the adult population with glaucoma attending Felege Hiwot Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Systematic random sampling was employed to select 319 study participants. Descriptive and summary statistics were calculated. Simple and multiple linear regressions were performed to determine factors associated with vision-related quality of life. A p-value of <0.05 in multivariable regression was considered statistically significant at a 95% confidence level. Results The mean glaucoma quality of life-15 score in this study was 47.85 ± 15.41. Below primary education, primary education, visual acuity of the better eye, visual acuity of the worse eye, and severe glaucoma were significantly associated with the glaucoma quality of life-15 score. Conclusion and Recommendation The study observed poorer vision-related quality of life in the glaucoma population than previously reported in Ethiopia and around the globe. The vision-related quality of life was significantly associated with educational status, visual acuity of the better and worse eye, and stage of glaucoma in the better eye. Educating the glaucoma population on the nature of the disease, advice on early presentation, and better-coping strategies for the condition are warranted.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with disability glare in patients with advanced glaucoma and evaluate the impact of disability glare on the vision-related quality of life. METHODS We prospectively studied 225 eyes (225 patients) with advanced glaucoma. The visual function was evaluated using the 10-2 and 24-2 Humphrey visual field (VF) (Dublin, California) and contrast sensitivity test. Structural parameters were obtained using RTVue optical coherence tomography and angiography (Fremont, California). Significant loss of macular vessel density (mVD) was defined as VD < 30%. Each participant completed the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire 25 (NEI-VFQ-25) and questions regarding subjective symptoms of glare. RESULTS Fifty-six patients (24.9%) experienced glare and had a lower NEI-VFQ-25 composite score (P = 0.017). The average retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex thickness and mean deviation (MD) in the 24-2 VF test were not associated with glare. Significant superior or inferior mVD loss (P < 0.001; odds ratio [OR], 3.45; and 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.83-6.55), lower logarithmic contrast sensitivity at 0.75 cycles/degree (P < 0.001; OR, 0.27; and 95% CI, 0.13-0.56), and worse MD in the 10-2 VF test (P < 0.001; OR, 0.93; and 95% CI, 0.89-0.97) showed an association with glare. CONCLUSION In advanced glaucoma, central VF defect and mVD loss are associated with disability glare, which negatively impacts vision-related quality of life.

Abstract
Purpose: To study the impact of moderate and severe primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) on the quality of life (QoL) due to activity limitation using glaucoma-specific questionnaires. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 122 participants, 50% (n = 61) being controls and 50% were diagnosed cases of moderate/severe POAG. Three orally administered glaucoma-specific QoL instruments were used: Glaucoma Activity Limitation (GAL-9), Glaucoma Quality of Life (GQL-15), and Viswanathan questionnaires. The questions related to activity limitation were identified and analyzed for each questionnaire separately. Results: The mean age of the participants was 61.04 ± 9.88 years and a majority were males (64.8%, n = 79). The mean scores in controls, moderate glaucoma, and severe POAG patients for GAL-9 questionnaire were 9.77 ± 1.36 (P = 0.44), 13.75 ± 4.76 (P < 0.001), and 23.45 ± 5.62 (P < 0.001), for GQL-15, these were 16.39 ± 2.18 (P = 0.5), 22.75 ± 7.89 (P < 0.001), and 39.34 ± 9.42 (P < 0.001), respectively, while for the Viswanathan questionnaire, they were 9.49 ± 0.94 (P = 0.38), 7.91 ± 1.59 (P < 0.001), and 4.41 ± 2.20 (P < 0.001), respectively. The GQL-15 and GAL-9 questionnaires concluded that activity limitation pertaining to dark adaptation-related tasks affected the QoL the most in moderate as well as severe POAG (P < 0.001). Using the Viswanathan questionnaire, it was observed that the peripheral vision-related activity limitation was most significant for the decrease in QoL in moderate POAG while near vision-related activity limitation affected the QoL the most in severe POAG (P < 0.001). Conclusion: All three questionnaires concluded that the activity limitation due to moderate and severe glaucoma has a negative impact on the QoL. The limitation of the tasks involving dark adaptation/glare and peripheral vision has the most significant impact on the QoL in moderate glaucoma. As the disease progresses to a severe category, the limitation of activities requiring central and near vision causes the most significant worsening in QoL.

Abstract
Scleral lenses, corneal collagen crosslinking, corneal implants and deep anterior keratoplasty are used to correct deforming changes in the cornea at advanced stages of keratoconus, which improves the quality of vision (QoV). The article presents an analysis of changes in QoV in a 30-year-old patient with stage III keratoconus who underwent intracorneal implantation of an allograft with a width of 2.75 mm and thickness of 300 µm at a depth of 370 µm. The following parameters were measured before and 6 months after the procedure: uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), VA with glare, higher order aberrations (HOA), thickness of the lipid layer of the tear film, spatial contrast sensitivity, visual productivity. Observation results show that the Kmax index decreased from 55.9 D to 48.0 D, Kmin - from 39.8 D to 39.4 D, UCVA increased from 0.1 to 0.8 and BCVA - from 0.35 to 0.8. Thickness of the lipid layer of the tear film remained the same. The glare effect with different degrees of brightness did not affect visual acuity. Spatial contrast sensitivity in photopic conditions at medium frequencies increased from 19 to 37 dB, at high frequencies from - 0.5 to 22.5 dB, in mesopic conditions at medium frequencies from 11 to 28 dB, at high frequencies from - 0.5 to 12 dB. The «coma» and «spherical» aberrations decreased by 2 and 3 times, respectively, while «trefoil» increased by 3 times. Visual productivity increased by 36.8%. It may be concluded that the use of a wide intrastromal allograft in keratoconus improves the patient's visual quality and visual productivity. At the same time, the «vignetting» effect from the graft side is negligible in photopic conditions and is significant in mesopic conditions.

Abstract
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim at providing a healthier planet for present and future generations. At the most recent SDG summit held in 2019, Member States recognized that the achievements accomplished to date have been insufficient to achieve this mission. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of 227 documents contextualizing outdoor lighting with SDGs, showing its potential to resolve some existing issues related to the SDG targets. From a list of 17 goals, six SDGs were identified to have relevant synergies with outdoor lighting in smart cities, including SDG 3 (Good health and well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), SDG 14 (Life below water) and SDG 15 (Life on land). This review also links efficient lighting roles partially with SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (Climate action) through Target 7.3 and Target 13.2, respectively. This paper identifies outdoor lighting as a vector directly impacting 16 of the 50 targets in the six SDGs involved. Each section in this review discusses the main aspects of outdoor lighting by a human-centric, energy efficiency and environmental impacts. Each aspect addresses the most recent studies contributing to lighting solutions in the literature, helping us to understand the positive and negative impacts of artificial lighting on living beings. In addition, the work summarizes the proposed solutions and results tackling specific topics impacting SDG demands.
