Abstract
The corrosion of iron in acidic environments has a negative impact on global industry. Herewith, the inhibitory effect of cysteine (Cys.) on mild steel (MSL) corrosion in different acidic solutions (1 M HCl, 1 M H2SO4, and 1 M H3PO4) was investigated through weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and theoretical calculations. The measurement results indicated that the adsorption of Cys. molecules on the metal surface caused corrosion inhibition. As a result, a protective layer or insoluble compound, or both, is obtained, blocking the active sites, preventing corrosion. The effectiveness (IE %) of the Cys. was enhanced by increasing concentration and lowering temperature. The maximum IE % of inhibition at 1 × 10-2 M of Cys. obtained are 97.3, 89.7, and 84.4% in HCl, H3PO4, and H2SO4 solutions, respectively. At the same inhibitor concentration, the double-layer capacity decreased, and the charge-transfer resistance increased from 17.17 to 188.5, 3.564 to 31.91, and 1.325 to 8.715 Ω cm2 in HCl, H3PO4, and H2SO4 solutions, respectively. Adsorption and PDP studies confirmed that it obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and acts as a mixed-type inhibitor of physicochemical nature. The corresponding thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were also calculated and discussed. Moreover, the inhibitory effect on the surface was inspected by SEM. The findings demonstrated that the order of IE % using Cys as anticorrosion agent for MSL is HCl > H3PO4 > H2SO4 solutions.

Abstract
Corrosion prevention has been a global phenomenon, particularly in metallic and construction engineering. Most inhibitors are expensive and toxic. Therefore, developing nontoxic and cheap corrosion inhibitors has been a way forward. In this work, L-arginine was successfully grafted on chitosan by the thermal technique using a reflux condenser. This copolymer was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion inhibition performance of the composite polymer was tested on mild steel in 0.5M HCl by electrochemical methods. The potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results were consistent. The inhibition efficiency at optimum concentration rose to 91.4%. The quantum chemical calculation parameters show good properties of the material as a corrosion inhibitor. The molecular structure of the inhibitor was subjected to density functional theory (DFT) to understand its theoretical properties, and the results confirmed the inhibition efficiency of the grafted polymer for corrosion prevention.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of novel [4-(3-amino-4-mehoxy-5-methyl phenyl)-1-oxo-1H-phthalaz-2-yl] acetic acid hydrazide (APPH), followed by its characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transforms infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, 1H-NMR spectroscopy, and LC/MS. Further, the inhibition effect of the varying concentration of APPH on the corrosion of low steel (LCS) in 0.5 M H2SO4 was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical measurements at 30 °C. The percentage inhibition efficacy of APPH increased with concentration and reached about 84% at 0.5 mM at 30 °C, also rising to 88% after 6 h of exposure. According to the polarization measurements, the investigated APPH works as a mixed-type inhibitor. Furthermore, the synergistic corrosion inhibition mechanism APPH showed that the inhibition efficiency maximizes with increasing inhibitor concentration, and the maximum value was 83% at 0.5 mM APPH. The adsorption of APPH on the LCS surface is more fitting to the Langmuir isotherm model. The free energy value (–ΔG° ads) was 33.3 kJ mol−1. Quantum chemical calculation was applied to APPH and acted as excellent support for the experimental data.

Abstract
A new type of Equisetum arvense aerial part (EAAP) extract was ready to be tested as a corrosion inhibitor for steel-based parts in Multi-stage flash (MSF) segments while the segments were being acid cleaned. The EAAP extract was identified using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). When compared to the specimen exposed to blank solution, EAAP extract molecules covered about 97% of the carbon steel surface in 2 M HCl solution, and the corrosion rate was reduced to 0.58 ± 0.02 μg cm-2 h-1 at 300 mg l-1. EAAP extract tends to have a blended impact on both anodic and cathodic sites on the surface of carbon steel. The thermodynamic activation factors are substantially higher in the presence of extract solution than in the absent of extract, demonstrating that the carbon steel surface would corrode slowly in the presence of EAAP extract. Theoretical models were used to validate the adsorption of EAAP extract on steel surfaces.

Abstract
This paper studies the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) synthesized using an extract of Convolvulus arvensis leaf and expired ZnCl2, as efficient inhibitors of carbon steel corrosion in a 1 M HCl solution. The synthesized ZnO-NPs were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis. The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1 M HCl was also investigated through potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the determination of weight loss. The results show that the efficiency of the prevention increased when the concentration of ZnO-NPs was increased to 91%, and that the inhibition efficiency was still high (more than 89%) despite decreasing at high temperatures, acting as a mixed-type inhibitor. A sample of carbon steel with a protective layer of inhibitor on top was observed during immersion in 1 M HCl for 20 h; an increase in the charge transfer resistance (Rct) and stability of the inhibitor could be observed after 6 h. Adsorption isotherm models demonstrated that the inhibitor adsorption mechanism on the carbon steel surface followed Langmuir rather than Freundlich and Temkin behaviors. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process is one of mixed, spontaneous, and exothermic adsorption. The results illustrate that the ZnO-NPs were a strong inhibitor of carbon steel corrosion in acid medium. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that the ZnO-NPs formed a good protective film on the carbon steel surface.

Abstract
Ecological awareness brought adequate innovations in the corrosion prevention technology in the last decade. Plant extracts are an interesting category among them, being the rich source of phytochemicals explored as corrosion inhibitors in various electrolytic media instead of toxic synthetic materials. Herein, the most ample tropical plant Mangifera indica L. leaf (MIL) extract was prepared, and its antioxidant ability has been utilized for corrosion prevention of commercial steel in 3.5 wt % NaCl environment. A rich source of polyphenol content provided excellent anticorrosive property. Corrosion prevention occurs by forming an insoluble organometallic complex between metal ions and functional groups in the antioxidants at the metal-electrolyte interface. A new simple strategy is adopted here to make bio-extract containing epoxy coating on steel. An MIL-precipitated amorphous silica hybrid is incorporated in epoxy coating. Electrochemical measurement demonstrated that the developed coating has a superlative corrosion inhibition efficiency of 99%. Thus, the present findings demonstrate a novel environmentally benign, efficient corrosion inhibitor for steel protection in saline media.

Corrosion Inhibition Mechanism of Mild Steel by Amylose-Acetate/Carboxymethyl Chitosan Composites in Acidic Media. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING 2019. Abstract
This article details an investigation on the mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel using amylose-acetate-blended carboxymethyl chitosan (AA-CMCh) in acidic media in the context of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters. The surface of mild steel was exposed to test solutions and evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The activation energy (Ea), free energy of adsorption (ΔG), enthalpy of activation (ΔHads), and entropy of activation (ΔSads) were determined in order to elucidate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The results confirmed that AA could be improved using CMCh as a corrosion inhibitor. The corrosion rate decreased from 1109.00 to 229.70 mdd (79.29%), while corrosion inhibition increased from 35.13 to 89.72%. Sulfate acid (H2SO4) of 0.25 M also helped in decreasing the corrosion rate from 2664.4 to 1041.67 mdd (60.9%) while also in increasing corrosion inhibition from 56.94 to 68.31%. The calculated values for ΔG, ΔHads, and ΔSads were −33.22 kJ·mol−1, −48.56 kJ·mol−1, and 0.0495 kJ·mol−1·K−1, respectively. The mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in the acidic condition is dominated and precipitated by the formation of the Fe-chelate compound, which was confirmed by the SEM/EDS spectrum. The reactions were spontaneous, exothermic, and irregular and takes place on the surface of mild steel.
