Photoinduced Ring-Opening and Phototoxicity of an Indolin-3-one Derivative

The study of a fluorescent indolin-3-one derivative is reported that, as opposed to its previously described congeners, selectively undergoes photoactivated ring-opening in apolar solvents. The excited state involved in this photoisomerization was partially deactivated by the formation of singlet oxygen. Cell studies revealed lipid droplet accumulation and efficient light-induced cytotoxicity.

Whole-Genome Sequence of Bioactive Compound-Producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strain LV

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is known for a high adaptive capacity due to the ability to synthesize several compounds that give advantages for competing with other microorganisms in the environment. The LV strain synthesizes bioactive compounds, mainly by secondary metabolism, with antitumor and antimicrobial activities against microbial pathogens.

Palladium-catalyzed α-arylation of indolin-3-ones

A method for the catalytic α-arylation of indolin-3-ones was developed. The catalytic system comprising Pd(dba)₂ and PAd₃ was found to be optimal for the transformation. The protocol features broad functional group compatibility in that a range of arylated indoxyl derivatives bearing a fully substituted carbon center was synthesized with high efficiency. A preliminary bioassay study revealed that the selected indole-substituted indolin-3-ones exhibit favorable cytotoxic activities against HCT-116 cancer cell line.
