Abstract
In order to establish a method for simultaneous determination and extraction of quercetin and berberine in soil, HPLC-PDA multi-wavelength method was used to detect the content of berberine and quercetin in soil solution. The detection wavelength was 210 nm and 347 nm. The column temperature was 30 °C, the mobile phase A was acetonitrile, the mobile phase B was 0.1% phosphoric acid aqueous solution, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL min-1. Under the condition of isocratic elution, quercetin and berberine were completely separated within 20 min. The detection limit concentration of quercetin was 0.078 mg L-1, and the detection limit of berberine was 0.019 mg L-1. Both of them reached the trace level, and the recovery rate was between 97.2% and 107.4%. The response surface method was used to optimize the ultrasonic extraction method. The three main factors of extraction concentration, extraction temperature and solid-liquid ratio were optimized to obtain the highest extraction efficiency. The optimum extraction efficiency was as follows: 1 g soil sample was extracted with 80% ethanol aqueous solution, ultrasonic time was 10 min, ultrasonic temperature was 44 °C, and solid-liquid ratio was 1 : 17 g mL-1. The extracted quercetin and berberine concentrations were close to the predicted values of response surface optimization. The method of extracting and determining berberine and quercetin from soil established in this experiment is simple, fast, low cost and high safety. The feedback of the results also further verifies the feasibility in practical production and application, and provides reference value for further research and analysis of different allelochemicals in soil.

Abstract
Species belonging to the genus Lippia are used worldwide as foods, beverages, and seasonings. Studies have demonstrated that these species have antioxidant, sedative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic activities. This work aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity and anxiolytic effect by different pathways of essential oils and ethanolic extracts of three species of Lippia (Lippia alba, Lippia sidoides, and Lippia gracilis). The ethanolic extracts were characterized by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MSn and their phenolics were quantified. The antibacterial activity was evaluated by determining the minimal inhibitory concentration and modulation of antibiotic activity, and toxic and anxiolytic effects were evaluated in the zebrafish model. The extracts showed compositions with a low ratio and shared compounds. L. alba and L. gracilis showed higher amounts of phenols and flavonoids, respectively. All extracts and essential oils presented antibacterial activity, especially those obtained from L. sidoides. On the other hand, L. alba extract presented the most significant antibiotic-enhancing effect. The samples were not toxic after 96 h of exposure, but showed an anxiolytic effect through modulation of the GABAA receptor, while L. alba extract acted via modulation of the 5-HT receptor. This new pharmacological evidence opens horizons for therapeutic approaches targeting anxiolytic and antibacterial therapies and food conservation using these species and their constituents.

Abstract
Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. is a kind of food and drug dual-use traditional Chinese medicine possessing multiple pharmacological and biochemical benefits. In our study, a rapid and high-throughput method based on Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor technology was developed and verified for screening potential xanthine oxidase (XOD) inhibitors exemplarily in the Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. Coupled with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS), 14 XOD-binders were identified. In the SPR-based biosensor and molecular docking analysis, most compounds exhibited a strong affinity and binding kinetic property (association rate constant, Kon and dissociation rate constant, Koff) for XOD and could be regarded as potential inhibitors. More importantly, to further accurately assess target occupancy of candidate compounds in vivo, a mathematical model was established and verified involving three crucial intrinsic kinetic processes (Pharmacokinetics, Binding kinetic and Target kinetic). Overall, the proposed screening and assessment strategy could be proved an effective theoretical basis for further pharmacodynamic evaluation.

Abstract
There are phenolic acids with allelopathy in the rhizosphere soil of plants. At present, the identification and quantification of phenolic acids in different matrix mixtures is usually analysed by high performance liquid chromatography, but the detection of phenolic acids in soil has rarely been studied. As well as, previous studies have evaluated a limited number of target compounds. In this work, we proposed and verified a method for quantitative determination of 14 phenolic acids, including gallic acid, vanillic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, caffeic acid, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, 2-methoxycinnamic acid, 3-methoxycinnamic acid, and cinnamic acid, which are widely present in rhizosphere soil of plants and have allelopathy. This method used multiwavelength HPLC-PDA analysis for simultaneous determination of these compounds. The detection wavelengths selected 254 nm, 280 nm, 300 nm, and 320 nm. Chromatographic separation of all compounds was achieved using a column of Shim-pack VP-ODS (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm), kept at 30 °C. Mobile phase A was acetonitrile, B was a 0.5% acetic acid aqueous solution, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL min−1. Under the condition of gradient elution, the mobile phase A was acetonitrile, B was a 0.5% acetic acid aqueous solution, and the flow rate was kept constant at 1.0 mL min−1. The 14 target phenolic acids were completely separated within 45 min. All the calibration curves showed good linearity, and the correlation coefficient was 0.9994–0.9999. With the detection limit varying from 0.003 mg L−1 to 0.239 mg L−1. The recovery rates and the RSD of 14 phenolic acids were 80.54∼107.0% and 1.43–4.35%, respectively. This method has the characteristics of high sensitivity, high accuracy, and high recovery rate. This method is a novel technical means for the simultaneous analysis of compound phenolic acids in soil. A method for multiple phenolic acids in soil based on HPLC-PDA multi-wavelength analysis was established. The method is high sensitivity, high accuracy and stable sample, and can be used for quantitative analysis of phenolic acids in soil.![]()

Abstract
AbstractAim of this research was to study the evolution of heat damage, phenolic acid content and in vitro antioxidant capacity of whole meal einkorn water biscuits baked at 205 °C for increasing times (10 min steps) from 25 to 75 min. The heat damage was gauged by determining furosine, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), furfural and glucosylisomaltol (GLI) contents. Furosine increased up to 50 min baking, when HMF started to form; furfural augmented only after 65 min treatment, whereas GLI did not change. An unknown compound, apparently related to the severity of the heat load, aroses through the aldolic condensation of HMF with the acetone used for the extraction of phenolic acids; hence the use of acetone-based solvents in thermally processed cereal products should be avoided. The conjugated phenolic acids ferulic, vanillic, syringic, p-coumaric, p-hydroxybenzoic and syringaldehyde and the bound phenolic acids ferulic, p-coumaric, syringic, and p-hydroxybenzoic were identified in water biscuits. The stronger heating treatments led to an increase of the soluble conjugated compounds, but did not influence the bound fraction. The in vitro antioxidant capacity of water biscuits augmented significantly as baking time increased, likely for the formation of antioxidant compounds as a consequence of heat damage.

Abstract
This study presents innovative research for comparison of the effect of the different dehydration techniques and methods of extraction on the antioxidant potential and bioactive compounds of Conilon and Arabica coffee flowers. The compounds were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography and the antioxidant capacity evaluated by the 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and nitric oxide assays. Among the compounds evaluated, trigonelline, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, and caffeine were identified, with trigonelline and caffeine being those with the highest concentration. The investigated factors significantly influenced the profile of the bioactive compounds identified, and the antioxidant capacity. The 92 °C infusion of freeze-dried Conilon coffee flowers, in general, showed greater antioxidant capacity by ABTS and DPPH assays, as well as total phenolic content. Lyophilization had a positive influence on maintaining the content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of the samples. Coffee flowers proved to be a potential raw material for making tea-like drinks.

Abstract
Las salsas en la cocina mexicana son consideradas un complemento fundamental de todos los platillos. En este trabajo se prepararon cuatro tipos de salsas mexicanas (SM): salsa roja cruda (SRCr), salsa roja cocinada (SRC), salsa verde cruda (SVCr) y salsa verde cocinada (SVC), se evaluó el porcentaje de bioaccesibilidad (%BA) y la velocidad de liberación de los compuestos fenólicos (CF) presentes en las SM. Se identificaron y cuantificaron por HPLC-MS los CF liberados de las SM en las diferentes etapas de un modelo de digestión in vitro. El %BA fue del 50% para la SRCr y hasta 62% para la SRC, valores semejantes presentaron la SVC y la SVCr. En la fracción intestinal se identificaron compuestos como catequina y galocatequín galato en los cuatro tipos de SM. La velocidad de liberación de los CF más alta fue de 3.70 mg EAG/min en la SRC y 2.16 mg EAG/min en la SVC. Los resultados sugieren una rápida liberación de los CF en ambas salsas rojas, sin embargo, esto no afecta la liberación final de los CF. Evaluar la BA de los CF de diferentes alimentos permite conocer cuántos y cuáles son los CF que potencialmente pueden estar biodisponibles en el organismo.

Abstract
The goal of this study was to explore the potential of carob extracts to act as lipid inhibitors in model food systems. First, the extraction efficacy of fourteen solvents on the phenolic and flavonoid contents as well as on the antioxidant activity was assessed. Results showed that the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of the extracts were strongly affected by solvents. Subsequently, the antioxidant potential of the most promising extracts (water, methanol, acidic acetone, and acetone-water) against four model food systems were evaluated. The acidic acetone extract had the highest antioxidant activity (70.3 ± 5.3%) in the β-carotene-linoleic acid system, followed by the acetone-water extract (62.1 ± 4.9%). Both extracts significantly prevented the lipid oxidation in sunflower oil and cooked comminuted pork; the inhibition activity at the end of storage period was 36.7-50.5% and 17.4-24.8%, respectively. A reduction of 49.5-54.8% in the formation of dienes in the oil-in-water emulsion was also found. The inhibitory effect of methanolic and aqueous extracts was significantly lower. Qualitative and quantitative variations in extracts are responsible for this antioxidant behavior in food systems. Gallic acid, myrecetin, rutin, and catechin are the main components of the extracts while myricetin and quercetin play an essential role in the antioxidant activity, according to the biochromatograms.
