Fabrication of spent FCC catalyst composites by loaded V2O5 and TiO2 and their comparative photocatalytic activities

Effect of the Deposition of Vanadium-Oxide on the Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2 Nanotubes and Its Photodiode Performance Interfaced with CH3NH3PbI3 Single Crystal

In this study, we report the influence of vanadium oxide (VO), as a photosensitive component, on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs). A series of TNTs of varying tube diameter were synthesized by the anodization of titanium foils at different voltages, while vanadium oxide was deposited on TNTs by wet chemical deposition. An improvement in the optical properties of nanotubes was observed after the deposition of vanadium oxide. An improvement in the optical properties (redshift in UV-Vis spectra) of TNTs and TNT/VO was noted. The photocatalytic activity was improved with increasing tube diameter, while it was weakened after the deposition of VO. Furthermore, photoactivity was investigated in photodiodes based on TNTs or TNT/VO and single crystals of CH3NH3PbI3. The photoelectric measurement revealed that different TNT diameters did not influence the I-V characteristic of the photodiodes, while the deposition of VO improved the photocurrent for smaller TNTs.

In-Situ Fabricating V2O5/TiO2-Carbon Heterojunction from Ti3C2 MXene as Highly Active Visible-Light Photocatalyst

Titanium dioxide is a mainstream photocatalyst, but it still confronts great obstacles of poor visible light absorption and rapid recombination rate of photogenerated carriers. Herein, we describe the design of a highly active visible-light photocatalytic system of graphited carbon layers anchored V2O5/TiO2 heterojunctions derived from Ti3C2 MXene, which demonstrates about 4.58 and 2.79 times higher degradation activity of MB under visible light (λ > 420 nm) than pure V2O5 and TiO2-carbon. Combined with the characterization results, the formed V2O5/TiO2 heterojunction promotes the separation of photogenerated carriers, while the graphitized carbon derived from MXene acts as an electronic reservoir to enhance the absorption of visible light. The ESR results show that superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals are the main active species in the reaction system. Therefore, we propose a possible mechanism model to provide a feasible idea for the subsequent design of high-efficiency photocatalysts for environmental treatment.

Recovering valuable metals from spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst via blank roasting and alkaline leaching

Spent hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalysts, containing considerable amount of pollutants and metals including vanadium (V), molybdenum (Mo), aluminum (Al), and nickel (Ni), are considered as hazardous wastes which will result in not only ecosystem damage but also squandering resource. Herein, a process featuring blank roasting-alkaline leaching is proposed to recover spent HDS catalyst. During roasting, low-valence compounds convert to high-valence oxides which can be leached out by NaOH solution. Afterwards, leaching solution is subjected to crystallization to separate metals. The results show that for samples roasted at 650 °C, 97% V, 96% Mo, and 88% Al are leached out at optimal condition; for samples roasted at 1000 °C, selective leaching of 91% V and 96% Mo respectively, are realized, with negligible Al being dissolved. NiO is insoluble in strong alkali leaving in residue. The advantages of this process are that first, the leaching of V, Mo, and Al can be manipulated by controlling roasting conditions, providing flexible process design. Second, leaching solution can be fully recycled. Finally, mild leaching condition and clean separation of V, Mo, and Al is achieved, proving fundamental information for peer researches to facilitate their future research on the development of more efficient and cleaner technologies.
