Abstract
OBJECTIVE One of the adverse effects of in-office bleaching is tooth hypersensitivity, which could be neutralized with a desensitizing agent. In-office bleaching and the application of desensitizing agents will affect the morphology of the enamel surface. These morphological changes have potential effects on the shear bond strength (SBS) and bonding of orthodontic brackets. This study analyzed the effects of fluoride and nonfluoride desensitizing agents after in-office bleaching on the SBS of metal brackets with resin composite cementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-seven postextraction premolars (n = 27) were bleached with 37% hydrogen peroxide and then divided into three groups: control group (group 1), fluoride-based desensitizing agent (group 2), and nonfluoride-based desensitizing agent (group 3). After treatment, the brackets were bonded using Transbond, and then the SBS test was performed using a universal testing machine. The adhesive remnant index (ARI) was analyzed after the SBS test, whereas enamel morphological changes were observed under a scanning electron microscope. After this assessment, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was conducted to determine calcium and phosphorus elements in the enamel surface after treatments. SBS data were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance, followed by the Tukey test, whereas ARI scores were subjected to the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test with a significance level of 5%. RESULTS The SBS increased significantly in group 2 compared with groups 1 and 3 (p < 0.05). In group 2, an ARI of 2 (55.56%) was frequent, whereas in group 3, an ARI of 3 (55.56%) appeared most frequently. CONCLUSION The application of the desensitizing agent fluoride after in-office bleaching increased the SBS and more adhesive remains on the tooth surface compared with that when nonfluoride desensitizing agents were applied on metal brackets with composite resin cementation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the role of induced nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in nociception/orofacial discomfort in rats submitted to tooth whitening with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). DESIGN Wistar rats were divided into three groups (n = 24/group): a sham group not submitted to whitening treatment, a saline group submitted to whitening treatment, and a test group submitted to whitening treatment and blockade of iNOS with aminoguanidine 50 mg/kg/day. After 24 and 48 h, and 7 days, the animals were euthanized to collect trigeminal ganglia and maxillae to histomorphometric analysis (size of neuronal bodies and percentage of pulp area filled by vessels) and behavior/nociception (Grimace scales, scratching and biting counting, weight loss and nociception assay). ANOVA-1- or - 2-way tests were used (p < 0.05, GraphPadPrism 5.0). RESULTS The aminoguanidine-treated group showed a reduction in nociceptive threshold in the masseteric region (p < 0.001), Grimace scale scores (p < 0.001), number of scratching (p = 0.011) and body mass loss (p = 0.007). After 24 and 48 h of tooth bleaching, the saline group showed a significant increase in the mean area of the blood vessels (p = 0.020) and iNOS immunostaining in odontoblasts (p = 0.002) and non-odontoblasts cells (p = 0.025). Aminoguanidine reversed both increases. Tooth bleaching reduced the mean area of neuronal bodies, and aminoguanidine significantly reversed it (p = 0.019), but an increase in GFAP immunostaining in neuronal bodies did not reduce after seven-days or after aminoguanidine treatment (p = 0.003). CONCLUSION iNOS blockage by aminoguanidine plays an important role in nociception and orofacial discomfort by control of inflammation in dental pulp after tooth bleaching with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) 35%.

Abstract
The aim of this in vitro study is to evaluate the bleaching efficiency of 5 different office bleaching methods and the changes in enamel morphology after bleaching. In this study, 75 human molar teeth are used. The teeth are divided in half in the mesiodistal direction, and a total of 150 enamel samples are obtained. The obtained samples are split into 3 main groups to evaluate the bleaching efficiency, surface roughness, and enamel surface hardness, and each group is composed of 50 samples. Then, each main group was divided into 5 separate subgroups (n = 10) containing 5 varied bleaching techniques. Before the bleaching, color measurement with a spectrophotometer, surface roughness with a profilometer, and microhardness measurement with Vickers test device are performed. After that, different bleaching procedures are applied to the 5 subgroups formed. As a result of the statistical evaluation, it is found that there is a significant level of bleaching in all groups (p < 0.05). In the comparison between the groups, there is no remarkable divergence in terms of hardness and roughness levels (p˃0.05). In light of the findings obtained from our study, we suggest that ozone can be used as an alternative bleaching agent to hydrogen peroxide. In addition, it is discovered that the use of light activation is not necessary to increase bleaching effectiveness. Finally, we believe that enamel surface morphology may be affected after office bleaching methods; therefore, various precautions should be taken before and after bleaching.

Abstract
Composite resins are commonly used in dentistry for direct restorations. The color stability of these materials still represents a major concern for both the clinician and the patient. In recent years, ozone therapy has been extensively used in dentistry to manage wounds healing, dental caries, oral lichen planus, gingivitis and periodontitis, halitosis, osteonecrosis of the jaw, post-surgical pain, plaque and biofilms, root canal treatment, dentin hypersensitivity, temporomandibular joint disorders, and teeth whitening. To date, several studies have evaluated the bleaching effect exerted by ozone on natural teeth, but no studies have been conducted to determine the effect on the color of composite resins. The aim of the present study is to determine whether ozonized oils/gels could determine a color change on composite resin. A total of 40 discs of an A3 shade restorative composite were divided into two groups, respectively exposed to a pigmentation treatment consisting of 10 applications of 10 min each of a 1% chlorhexidine-based gel (trial group) and to storage into physiological solution (control group). The samples of both groups were respectively subdivided into four subgroups which underwent four different protocols, three of which were based on the exposure to different ozonized products and the latter representing the control. A colorimetric analysis with the CIELAB method was conducted with the following timing: after 24 h of storage in physiological solution (before the experimental procedures) (T0), after the subdivision into groups A and B (corresponding to the pigmentation for samples of group A and storage in physiological solution for samples of group B) (T1), and after subdivision into subgroups 1–4 (corresponding to the application of the ozonized products vs. control) (T2). No statistically significant difference was found between the samples at T0. The 20 samples of group A, exposed to the colorant agent, underwent a color change from T0 to T1, whereas the 20 samples exposed to the physiologic solution did not undergo any significant color change. A positive but moderate influence was assessed for E and L values, whereas no significant change occurred for A and B values. Therefore, dental ozonized oils/gels could be valuable in restorative dentistry as bleaching agents of resin composites exposed to discoloration, an alternative to the traditional hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide, but further studies are required to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Objectives While various approaches are available for tooth whitening, the basic concept employs the use of peroxides in the form of gels, which are applied to tooth surfaces. Previous studies have shown that reactive oxygen species acting as potent disinfectants can be produced using boron‐doped diamond (BDD) electrodes for the electrolysis of water. With these electrodes being applicable, for example, for endodontic treatment, it was the goal of this pilot study to use such electrodes for tooth whitening. Material and Methods Two groups (n = 10) of intact clinical crowns were obtained by horizontally cutting off roots of extracted human teeth. The crowns were either bleached by applying a commercially available agent based on 40% hydrogen peroxide or were immersed in saline undergoing electrolysis with BDD electrodes. Whitening of specimens was judged on standardized photographs by examiners with three different levels of experience. Statistical analysis was based on Gwet's AC2 coefficient with quadratic weights, Shapiro–Wilk tests, and two‐way analysis of variance of aligned rank transformed data (level of significance set at α = .05). Results Levels of reliability ranging from fair to substantial were recorded for single persons while the level of reliability ranged between fair and moderate for groups of raters. The level of experience had no significant effect on the ratings (p = .2500). The bleaching method had a significant effect on ratings (p = .0005) with BDD electrodes showing less effect. Conclusions Bleaching by applying BDD electrodes was possible, but was not as effective as the use of commercially available in‐office whitening gel. A potential explanation may be seen in different concentrations of reactive oxygen species.

Abstract
This study investigated the bleaching effectiveness and the physicochemical effects on enamel of violet light and ozone, associate or not to hydrogen peroxide, compared to 35%-hydrogen peroxide. Enamel-dentin blocks from human molars were randomly allocated to receive one of the following bleaching protocols (n=15): (HP) 35%-hydrogen peroxide, (VL) violet light, (OZ) ozone, the association between hydrogen peroxide with ozone (OZ+HP) or violet light (VL+HP). All protocols were performed in two sessions with a 48h interval. Color (spectrophotometer) and mineral composition (Raman spectroscopy) were measured before and after the bleaching. Color changes were calculated by ΔEab, ΔE00, and whitening index (WI). The surface roughness was measured with an atomic force microscope. Data were analyzed by One-way or Two-way repeated measure ANOVA followed by the Tukey's test (α = 0.05). The lowest color change values (either measured by WI, ΔEab, or ΔE00) were observed for VL and OZ used with no HP. Violet light associate with HP was unable to improve the color changes observed for the peroxide alone, in combination with OZ and HP, the highest color changes were verified. Regardless of bleaching protocol, the bleached enamel presented higher contents of PO4 and CO3 -2 than those observed at baseline. All bleaching protocols resulted in similar enamel surface roughness. Both the VL and the OZ caused reduced effects on the enamel color change when used alone. The ozone therapy improved the bleaching effect in the group that received the association of HP.
