Abstract
Visible-light-driven photoredox catalysis is known to be a powerful tool for organic synthesis. Its occurrence critically depends on the twice exothermic single-electron transfer processes of photosensitizers, which are governed by the redox properties of the species involved. Hence, the inherently narrow range of redox potentials of photosensitizers inevitably constrains their further availability. Sensitization-initiated electron transfer has recently been found to effectively overcome this substantial challenge. However, feasible and practical strategies for designing such complicated catalytic systems are rather scarce. Herein we report an elaborate dual-catalyst platform, with dicyanopyrazine as a visible light photosensitizer and a pyrenyl-incorporated chiral phosphoric acid as a co-sensitizer, and we demonstrate the applicability of this sensitization-initiated electron transfer strategy in an asymmetric formal de Mayo-type reaction. The catalysis platform enables otherwise thermodynamically unfavourable electron transfer processes to close the redox cycle and allows for precise access to valuable enantioenriched 1,5-diketones with a wide substrate range.

Abstract
Herein, a visible-light mediated strategy unlocking a family of cyclic β-amino carbonyl derivatives bearing three contiguous stereogenic centres is introduced. The overall reactivity relies on the performance of the substrate-catalyst complex to assist both the enantiocontrol and the photoredox tasks. This transformation led to an enantioselective [3 + 2] photocycloaddition between coordinated α,β-unsaturated acyl imidazoles and cyclopropylamine derivatives.

Abstract
Herein, we present a photocatalyzed two-carbon ring expansion of β-dicarbonyl compounds with unactivated olefins that provides facile access to medium-sized rings. Selective sensitization of the substoichiometric enol tautomer enables reactivity of substrates incompatible with the classical De Mayo reaction conditions. Key to success is the identification of the metal-based sensitizer fac-[Ir(CF3 -pmb)3 ], which can be excited using common near-visible LEDs, and possesses a high triplet excited state energy of 73.3 kcal mol-1 . This exactly falls in the range between the triplet energies of the enol and keto tautomer, thereby enabling a dynamic kinetic sensitization. Demonstrating the applicability of fac-[Ir(CF3 -pmb)3 ] as a photocatalyst in organic synthesis for the first time, we describe a two-step photocycloaddition-ring-opening cascade with β-ketoesters, -diketones, and -ketoamides. The mechanism has been corroborated by time-resolved spectroscopy, as well as further experimental and computational studies.

Abstract
When aiming to synthesize molecules with elevated molecular complexity starting from relatively simple starting materials, photochemical transformations represent an open avenue to circumvent analogous multistep procedures. Specifically, light-mediated cycloadditions remain as powerful tools to generate new bonds begotten from non-very intuitive disconnections, that alternative thermal protocols would not offer. In response to the current trend in both industrial and academic research pointing towards green and sustainable processes, several strategies that meet these requirements are currently available in the literature. This Minireview summarizes [2+2] and [4+2] photocycloadditions that do not require the use of metal photocatalysts by means of alternative strategies. It is segmented according to the cycloaddition type in order to give the reader a friendly approach and we primarily focus on the most recent developments in the field carried out using visible light, a general overview of the mechanism in each case is offered as well.

Abstract
A photoinduced pericyclic cascade reaction has been developed to afford oxabicyclo[4.2.0]octenes. Mechanistic studies show that this reaction undergoes [2 + 2]-photocycloaddition, base-promoted elimination, retro-4π-electrocyclization, [1,5]-H shift, and 4π-electrocyclization procedures. This reaction features wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and excellent diastereoselectivity.
