Abstract
A facile and effective tandem reaction of ynones and methyl salicylates was developed to obtain a broad range of 3-acyl chromones in moderate-to-excellent yields. This protocol underwent a Michael addition and cyclization process, which exhibited easily accessible substrates, broad substrate scope, and high regioselectivity under mild and transition-metal-free conditions. Moreover, gram-scale reaction and further chemical transformation of the products were also further studied.

Abstract
In this work, through a combination of photoluminescence spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and magnetic measurements, it is determined that ZnO rods, made hydrothermally using a combination of magnetic field with respect to the force of gravity, exhibit superparamagnetic properties which emerge from Zn defects. These Zn defects result in a size-dependent superparamagnetic property of the rods. Red emissions, characteristic of Zn vacancies, and magnetic susceptibility both increased with decreasing rod size. The ZnO rods have significantly larger superparamagnetic cluster sizes (one order of magnitude) and lower fluctuation rates when compared to other superparamagnetic particles.

Abstract
Heterocycles have been found to be of much importance as several nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocycle compounds exist amongst the various USFDA-approved drugs. Because of the advancement of nanotechnology, nanocatalysis has found abundant applications in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Numerous nanoparticles (NPs) have been utilized for several organic transformations, which led us to make dedicated efforts for the complete coverage of applications of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds reported from 2010 to 2019. Our emphasize during the coverage of catalyzed reactions of the various MNPs such as Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Si, Ti, and Zn has not only been on nanoparticles catalyzed synthetic transformations for the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds, but also provide an inherent framework for the reader to select a suitable catalytic system of interest for the synthesis of desired heterocyclic scaffold.

Abstract
Understanding the role of nanointerface structures in supported bimetallic nanoparticles is vital for the rational design of novel high-performance catalysts. This study reports the synthesis, characterization, and the catalytic application of Co-Mn oxide nanoparticles supported on CeO2 nanocubes with the specific aim of investigating the effect of nanointerfaces in tuning structure-activity properties. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis reveals the formation of different types of Co-Mn nanoalloys with a range of 6 ± 0.5 to 14 ± 0.5 nm on the surface of CeO2 nanocubes, which are in the range of 15 ± 1.5 to 25 ± 1.5 nm. High concentration of Ce3+ species are found in Co-Mn/CeO2 (23.34%) compared with that in Mn/CeO2 (21.41%), Co/CeO2 (15.63%), and CeO2 (11.06%), as evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Nanoscale electron energy loss spectroscopy analysis in combination with XPS studies shows the transformation of Co2+ to Co3+ and simultaneously Mn4+/3+ to Mn2+. The Co-Mn/CeO2 catalyst exhibits the best performance in solvent-free oxidation of benzylamine (89.7% benzylamine conversion) compared with the Co/CeO2 (29.2% benzylamine conversion) and Mn/CeO2 (82.6% benzylamine conversion) catalysts for 3 h at 120 °C using air as the oxidant. Irrespective of the catalysts employed, a high selectivity toward the dibenzylimine product (97-98%) was found compared with the benzonitrile product (2-3%). The interplay of redox chemistry of Mn and Co at the nanointerface sites between Co-Mn nanoparticles and CeO2 nanocubes as well as the abundant structural defects in cerium oxide plays a key role in the efficiency of the Co-Mn/CeO2 catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of benzylamine.

Abstract
We assume formation of acyl-PdII-N-heterocyclic-carbene (NHC) organometalics for diverse C-O/O-C and C-C/C-O coupling catalysis of direct functionalization and cyclization reactions. We report the first use of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as an oxidant under an inert atmosphere to O2-sensitive NHC for oxidative transformations. In situ generated imidazolium halides are utilized as a precursor of NHC and as a source of alkyl group for the sp2C-H functionalization of aldehydes to esters under mild conditions. In contrast to the reported NHC-catalyzed esterification strategies, the outstanding substrate scope of this mild catalysis approach is established through synthesis of thermally labile sugar-based chiral esters. Our competition experiments using various unsymmetrical imidazolium halides revealed an ascending rate of migratory aptitude among methyl ≪ allyl < crotyl < cinnamyl < benzyl moiety. DMSO is used as an oxidant for both esterification and cyclization reactions, and the transfer of the DMSO-oxygen to ester is confirmed using an 18O-labeling experiment. The diverse activity using DMSO-oxygen to acyl-PdII-NHC is verified by developing a unique C-C-coupled cyclization with side-chain hydroxylation of olefin to achieve valuable β-hydroxy chromanones.
