Nonclassicality Invariant of General Two-Mode Gaussian States

Classical-Nonclassical Polarity of Gaussian States

Gaussian states with nonclassical properties such as squeezing and entanglement serve as crucial resources for quantum information processing. Accurately quantifying these properties within multimode Gaussian states has posed some challenges. To address this, we introduce a unified quantification: the "classical-nonclassical polarity," represented by P. For a single mode, a positive value of P captures the reduced minimum quadrature uncertainty below the vacuum noise, while a negative value represents an enlarged uncertainty due to classical mixtures. For multimode systems, a positive P indicates bipartite quantum entanglement. We show that the sum of the total classical-nonclassical polarity is conserved under arbitrary linear optical transformations for any two-mode and three-mode Gaussian states. For any pure multimode Gaussian state, the total classical-nonclassical polarity equals the sum of the mean photon number from single-mode squeezing and two-mode squeezing. Our results provide a new perspective on the quantitative relation between single-mode nonclassicality and entanglement, which may find applications in a unified resource theory of nonclassical features.

Differential Parametric Formalism for the Evolution of Gaussian States: Nonunitary Evolution and Invariant States

In the differential approach elaborated, we study the evolution of the parameters of Gaussian, mixed, continuous variable density matrices, whose dynamics are given by Hermitian Hamiltonians expressed as quadratic forms of the position and momentum operators or quadrature components. Specifically, we obtain in generic form the differential equations for the covariance matrix, the mean values, and the density matrix parameters of a multipartite Gaussian state, unitarily evolving according to a Hamiltonian H^. We also present the corresponding differential equations, which describe the nonunitary evolution of the subsystems. The resulting nonlinear equations are used to solve the dynamics of the system instead of the Schrödinger equation. The formalism elaborated allows us to define new specific invariant and quasi-invariant states, as well as states with invariant covariance matrices, i.e., states were only the mean values evolve according to the classical Hamilton equations. By using density matrices in the position and in the tomographic-probability representations, we study examples of these properties. As examples, we present novel invariant states for the two-mode frequency converter and quasi-invariant states for the bipartite parametric amplifier.

Enhancing entanglement detection of quantum optical frequency combs via stimulated emission

We investigate the performance of a certain nonclassicality identifier, expressed via integrated second-order intensity moments of optical fields, in revealing bipartite entanglement of quantum-optical frequency combs (QOFCs), which are generated in both spontaneous and stimulated parametric down-conversion processes. We show that, by utilizing that nonclassicality identifier, one can well identify the entanglement of the QOFC directly from the experimentally measured intensity moments without invoking any state reconstruction techniques or homodyne detection. Moreover, we demonstrate that the stimulated generation of the QOFC improves the entanglement detection of these fields with the nonclassicality identifier. Additionally, we show that the nonclassicality identifier can be expressed in a factorized form of detectors quantum efficiencies and the number of modes, if the QOFC consists of many copies of the same two-mode twin beam. As an example, we apply the nonclassicality identifier to two specific types of QOFC, where: (i) the QOFC consists of many independent two-mode twin beams with non-overlapped spatial frequency modes, and (ii) the QOFC contains entangled spatial frequency modes which are completely overlapped, i.e., each mode is entangled with all the remaining modes in the system. We show that, in both cases, the nonclassicality identifier can reveal bipartite entanglement of the QOFC including noise, and that it becomes even more sensitive for the stimulated processes.

Experimental identification of non-classicality of noisy twin beams and other related two-mode states

Different non-classicality criteria expressed in the form of inequalities among intensity moments and elements of photon-number distributions are applied to noisy twin beams and other two-mode states obtained from a twin beam by using a beam splitter. Their performance in revealing the non-classicality is judged in comparison with the exact results provided by suitable entanglement and local non-classicality quantifiers. Whereas the non-classicality of noisy twin beams is always revealed by these criteria, not all the nonclassical states obtained at the output of the beam splitter can be identified by these experimentally easily reachable criteria.

Many-Particle Entanglement Criterion for Superradiantlike States

We derive a many-particle entanglement criterion for mixed states using a relation between single-mode and many-particle nonclassicalities. The criterion relies on the measurement of collective spin observables. It works very well not only in the vicinity of the Dicke states, but also for the superpositions of Dicke states: superradiant ground states of finite or infinite number of particles and time evolution of single-photon superradiance from an extended sample where random phases appear. We also obtain a criterion for ensemble-field entanglement, which is successful for such kinds of states. We also observe an interesting phenomenon: even though the collective excitation of this many-particle system has a sub-Poissonian character, which results in entanglement, the wave function displays bunching.

Experimental detection of nonclassicality of single-mode fields via intensity moments

Nonclassicality criteria based on intensity moments and derived from the usual matrix approach are compared to those provided by the majorization theory. The majorization theory is shown to give a greater number of more suitable nonclassicality criteria. Fifteen experimentally useful criteria of the majorization theory containing the intensity moments up to the fifth order are identified. Their performance is experimentally demonstrated on the set of eleven potentially nonclassical states generated from a twin beam by postselection based on detecting a given number of photocounts in one arm by using an iCCD camera.

Entanglement and nonclassicality in four-mode Gaussian states generated via parametric down-conversion and frequency up-conversion

Multipartite entanglement and nonclassicality of four-mode Gaussian states generated in two simultaneous nonlinear processes involving parametric down-conversion and frequency up-conversion are analyzed assuming the vacuum as the initial state. Suitable conditions for the generation of highly entangled states are found. Transfer of the entanglement from the down-converted modes into the up-converted ones is also suggested. The analysis of the whole set of states reveals that sub-shot-noise intensity correlations between the equally-populated down-converted modes, as well as the equally-populated up-converted modes, uniquely identify entangled states. They represent a powerful entanglement identifier also in other cases with arbitrarily populated modes.
