An Efficient and Robust Method for Selective Conversion of Aniline to Azobenzene Using nano-TiO2 -P25-SO3 H, under Visible Light Irradiation

Nano-TiO₂ -P25-SO₃ H as our previous report has successfully been utilized to synthesize azobenzene through the selective conversion of aniline under visible light irradiation. According to PL emission spectra, the immobilizing a solid Brønsted acid of -SO₃ H groups on the pure-TiO₂ -P25 surface with a close interface is an approach to amplify the nano-TiO₂ -P25 response to visible light, which can productively hinder the recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes as carriers. Therefore, the photocatalytic activity of the semiconductor is highly likely to increase. Photooxidation of aniline to azobenzene was achieved by applying nano-TiO₂ -P25-SO₃ H (E_g  = 2.6 eV) that activated by blue photons (λ_max  = 460 nm), green photons (λ_max  = 510 nm) and red photons (λ_max  = 630 nm) which is introducing as a sustainable procedure. Central composite design (CCD) was employed for evaluating the effects of photocatalyst amount, oxidant concentration and irradiation time on the synthesis of azobenzene by this approach. Easily synthesizing, recyclability of the photocatalyst, mild reaction condition and short reaction time could be considered as plus points of this process.

Visible-light photocatalytic aerobic oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with a perylene diimide photocatalyst

Photosensitized oxygenation has been recognised as a modern method of incorporating oxygen into a substrate, as it offers environmentally benign alternatives to several conventional synthetic procedures. A metal-free aerobic selective sulfoxidation photosensitized by a perylene diimide photocatalyst has been developed. The reaction utilizes visible light as the driving force and molecular oxygen as the oxidant. The advantages of the developed method include high efficiency and selectivity, extremely simple operation and work-up procedure, mild reaction conditions, and practical application in late-stage functionalization.

Synthesis and applications of graphene-based TiO(2) photocatalysts

Graphene is one of the most promising materials in the field of nanotechnology and has attracted a tremendous amount of research interest in recent years. Due to its large specific surface area, high thermal conductivity, and superior electron mobility, graphene is regarded as an extremely attractive component for the preparation of composite materials. At the same time, the use of photocatalysts, particularly TiO(2), has also been widely studied for their potential in addressing various energy and environmental-related issues. However, bare TiO(2) suffers from low efficiency and a narrow light-response range. Therefore, the combination of graphene and TiO(2) is currently one of the most active interdisciplinary research areas and demonstrations of photocatalytic enhancement are abundant. This Review presents and discusses the current development of graphene-based TiO(2) photocatalysts. The theoretical framework of the composite, the synthetic strategies for the preparation and modification of graphene-based TiO(2) photocatalysts, and applications of the composite are reviewed, with particular attention on the photodegradation of pollutants and photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen generation.
