Abstract
A 2 : 1 hydrogen-bonded crystal of 2-pyrrolidone and chloranilic acid shows structural phase transitions accompanied by the drastic rearrangement of hydrogen-bonded tapes. Such a phenomenon is attributed to the selective and directional character of hydrogen bonds.

Functionalized alkynyl-chlorogermanes: hydrometallation, Ge-Cl bond activation, Ge-H bond formation and chlorine-tert-butyl exchange via a transient germyl cation. Dalton Trans 2016; 45:6159-74. Abstract
Treatment of alkynyl-arylchlorogermanes ArylnGe(Cl)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)3-n (n = 1, 2) with HM(t)Bu2 (M = Al, Ga) yielded mixed Al or Ga alkenyl-alkynylchlorogermanes via hydrometallation reactions. Intramolecular interactions between the Lewis-basic Cl atoms and the Lewis-acidic Al or Ga atoms afforded MCGeCl heterocycles. The endocyclic M-Cl distances were significantly lengthened compared to the starting compounds and indicated Ge-Cl bond activation. Dual hydrometallation succeeded only with HGa(t)Bu2. One Ga atom of the product was involved in a Ga-Cl bond, while the second one had an interaction to a C-H bond of a phenyl group. In two cases treatment of chlorogermanes with two equivalents of HAl(t)Bu2 resulted in hydroalumination of one alkynyl group and formation of unprecedented Ge-H functionalized germanes, Aryl-Ge(H)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C(Al(t)Bu2)[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu] (Aryl = mesityl, triisopropylphenyl). The Al atoms of these compounds interacted with the α-C atoms of the alkynyl groups. Ph(Cl)Ge(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C(Al(t)Bu2}[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu] reacted in an unusual Cl/(t)Bu exchange to yield the tert-butylgermane Ph((t)Bu)Ge(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C{Al((t)Bu)(Cl)}[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu]. Quantum chemical calculations suggested the formation of a germyl cation as a transient intermediate.

Abstract
4,6-O-Benzylidene-α-d-galactosyl azide crystallizes into two morphologically distinct polymorphs depending on the solvent. While the α form appeared as thick rods and crystallized in P21 space group (monoclinic) with a single molecule in the asymmetric unit, the β form appeared as thin fibers and crystallized in P1 space group (triclinic) with six molecules in the asymmetric unit. Both the polymorphs appeared to melt at the same temperature. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis revealed that polymorph α irreversibly undergoes endothermic transition to polymorph β much before its melting point, which accounts for their apparently same melting points. Variable temperature powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) experiments provided additional proof for the polymorphic transition. Single-crystal XRD analyses revealed that α to β transition occurs in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) fashion not only under thermal activation but also spontaneously at room temperature. The SCSC nature of this transition is surprising in light of the large structural differences between these polymorphs. Polarized light microscopy experiments not only proved the SCSC nature of the transition but also suggested nucleation and growth mechanism for the transition.

Abstract
The preparation of two new tripodal "pinwheel" type anion hosts based on a triethylbenzene core and bipyridinium or ethylnicotinium arms is reported. The new materials bind anions via CH...anion interactions. Complexes with Br(-) and PF(6)(-) have been characterised by X-ray crystallography as both solvates in a pure form. In the bipyridinium host CH...F interactions to PF(6)(-) induce a chiral C(3) symmetric conformation that is disrupted in the hydrate. The compound is also selective for ATP(2-) in aqueous acetonitrile.

Abstract
Close packing conflict in a metastable polymorph of the pure title host (Z' = 2, melt crystal m) is resolved in the stable form (Z' = 1, sublimed crystal s) as O-H...O hydrogen bond changes to O-H...pi interaction. Melt crystallization and sublimation show a greater percentage of high Z' structures in CSD statistics.
