Abstract
In this work, we presented the synthesis and investigation of binding properties of the new morpholine containing 3-amido-9-ethylcarbazole derivative (CMR) to calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) and human serum albumin (HSA) by fluorescence spectroscopy, UV absorption spectroscopy and molecular docking method. A decrease in Stern-Volmer constants was obtained with increase in temperature; it shows that static quenching mechanism leads to formation of new CMR-DNA/HSA complexes, which have hydrophobic interaction as the predominant role in the binding modes. Also, binding properties of DNA were investigated with competition assays on two probes (EB and H33258) by absorption, ionic strength and iodide ion quenching methods. The results suggested that CMR entered into the minor groove binding on the A-T region of DNA. The spectral data further confirmed by molecular docking which elicited that CMR complexes have similar interaction and conformation trends to each target, DNA and HSA. The experimental and computational results show that CMR has been classified as a promising molecule in drug designing of other carbazole derivatives.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed intramolecular Trost-Oppolzer type Alder-ene strategy was developed for the synthesis of carbazoles and cyclopenta[ b]indoles from easily accessible(3-allyl-1 H-indol-2-yl)methyl acetates. This strategy was extended for the synthesis of naphthalenes and dibenzobenzofurans as well. In addition, a short synthesis of antibacterial and antifungal natural product glycozoline and its analogues was also achieved.

Abstract
A library of substituted chromeno[3,4-b]indoles was developed as Lamellarin isosters. Synthesis was achieved from indoles after a four-step pathway sequence involving C-3 iodination, a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction, and a one pot deprotection/lactonisation step. Twenty final compounds were tested in order to determine their activity against topoisomerase I and kinases, the two major biological activities of Lamellarins. One newly synthesized derivative exhibited a strong topoisomerase activity comparable to reference compounds such as campthotecin and Lamellarin with only a weak kinase inhibition. Two other lead compounds were identified as new nanomolar DYRK1A inhibitors and several other drugs affected the kinases in the sub-micromolar range. These results will enable us to use the chromeno[3,4-b]indole as a pharmacophore to develop potent treatments for neurological or oncological disorders in which DYRK1A is fully involved.

Abstract
Herein we report on the synthesis and DNA recognition properties of a series of three N-phenyl carbazole-based light-up probes initially designed for two-photon absorption. The vinylic derivatives (Cbz-2Py, Cbz-3Py) display strong fluorescence enhancement when bound to various duplex- and quadruplex-forming oligonucleotides whereas the oxazole derivative is not fluorescent in DNA. Determination of affinity constants by fluorimetric titrations evidenced that Cbz-2Py has a clear preference for AT-rich duplex structures. Circular Dichroism (CD) measurements confirmed the sequence-dependent binding of this compound and suggest insertion in the minor groove as shown by a strong induced CD (ICD) signal and further supported by molecular modeling. Altogether the data indicate that duplex vs quadruplex selectivity of the dyes is strongly dependent on the sequence of the duplex. Finally, the dyes exhibit high two-photon absorption cross-sections (up to 540GM in glycerol) and allow a fine and bright staining of nuclear DNA with low background fluorescence as shown by one and two-photon confocal microscopy imaging of fixed cells.

Abstract
A series of 2,5- and 3,5-diphenylpyridine derivatives was synthetised in high yields. A versatile chemical strategy allows the design of diphenylpyridines differently substituted with cationic or neutral side chains. The interaction of the molecules with DNA was investigated by biophysical and biochemical methods and an AT-binder (20) was characterised. A few cytotoxic molecules were identified but their antiproliferative activity does not correlate with DNA binding. Two compounds 18 and 22 showed significant antiproliferative activity and provide a novel route to potential anticancer agents.
