Abstract
An efficient enantioselective construction of tetrahydronaphthalene-1,4-diones as well as dihydronaphthalene-1,4-diols by a chiral phosphoric acid catalyzed quinone Diels-Alder reaction with dienecarbamates is reported. The nature of the protecting group on the diene is key to the success of achieving high enantioselectivity. The divergent "redox" selectivity is controlled by using an adequate amount of quinones. Reversible redox switching without erosion of enantioselectivity was possible from individual redox isomers.

Abstract
An efficient [3 + 2]/[4 + 2] or double [4 + 2] cycloaddition strategy has been established for the synthesis of heterocyclic systems under mild conditions. The reaction pathway is governed by the nature of reaction partner. Several dihydrofurocoumarin, furopyranocoumarin, dihydrofuran, dihydrobenzopyran, and dihydrobenzofuran derivatives were obtained as single diastereomers from cyclic or acyclic enol ethers and styrenes. This one-pot transformation constructed C-C and C-O bonds and generated molecular complexity by domino/tandem process to produce the heterocyclic systems in good yields. The ring closure of domino protocol was highly stereoselective and resulted in the formation of cis-fused systems.

Abstract
Several 9-(2-aminoethyl)anthracene derivatives were prepared with different nitrogen substitutents including alkyl, acetamide, trifluoroacaeamide and t-butyl carbamate. The selectivity in Diels-Alder cyclodaddition reaction with N-methyl maleimide was evaluated through single crystal X-ray analysis of the products. Models for the change in selectivity with hydrogen bond acceptor are proposed, supported by DFT level calculations.

Abstract
Prototropic rearrangement of the Diels-Alder adduct (3a) of 9-ferrocenylanthracene and 1,4-benzoquinone potentially furnishes 9-ferrocenyl-1,4-dihydroxytriptycene (3b) incorporating a C(2v) symmetrical paddlewheel moiety. However, reaction of 3a with HBF(4) unexpectedly yields instead 9-ferrocenyl-10-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)anthracene (4) via cleavage of the C9-C12 bond to generate initially a ferrocenyl-stabilized cation. Treatment of 3a with sodium hydride and iodomethane yields 1,4-dimethoxy-9-ferrocenyltriptycene (3c) in high yield but, surprisingly, also leads to fission of the C9-C12 bond resulting, after methylation, in the formation of 9-hydroxy-9-ferrocenyl-10-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)dihydroanthracene (12), which readily dehydrates on silica to form 9-ferrocenyl-10-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)anthracene (8). The X-ray crystal structures of 3a, 3c and 4 are reported.

Abstract
An asymmetric synthesis of two anticancer natural products, candenatenins B and C, is described, leading to a revision of the originally assigned stereochemistry. The synthesis follows a Diels-Alder/retro-Diels Alder strategy using a chiral anthracene auxiliary to access both targets with 90% ee. The inherent structural qualities of the auxiliary allow for both regio- and diastereoselective transformations.
