Bis(isonicotinamide-κN)silver(I) trifluoromethanesulfonate acetonitrile disolvate

The reaction of silver(I) triflouro­methane­sulfonate with isonicotinamide in aceto­nitrile produces a polymeric structure held together by discrete hydrogen bonds, regium bonds between the metal atom and the solvent mol­ecules, and metal–metal inter­actions.

The central Ag^I atom of the title salt, [Ag(INAM)₂](CF₃SO₃)·2CH₃CN, where INAM is isonicotinamide (C₆H₆N₂O), is twofold coordinated by the pyridine N atoms of two isonicotinamide ligands creating a slightly distorted linear mol­ecular geometry. The formation of polymeric chains {[Ag(INAM)₂]⁺}_n, held together by discrete hydrogen bonds through the amide group of the INAM ligand leaves voids for non-coordinating aceto­nitrile mol­ecules that inter­act the silver metal center via regium bonds.

Structures and spectroscopic characterization of calcium chloride-nicotinamide, -isonicotinamide, -picolinamide and praseodymium bromide-nicotinamide complexes

The coordination structures formed by calcium complexes with nicotinamide (na), isonicotinamide (ina) and picolinamide (pa) and praseodymium bromide-na are reported. The structures of CaCl2·(C6H6N2O)2·2H2O (Ca-na), CaCl2·(C6H6N2O)2·4H2O (Ca-ina), CaCl2·(C6H6N2O)2·5H2O (Ca-pa) and PrBr3·(C6H6N2O)2·6H2O (PrBr-na) in the solid state have been characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, FTIR, FIR, THz and Raman spectroscopies. Carbonyl oxygen of nicotinamide is coordinated to Ca(2+), but it is O-monodentate (carbonyl oxygen) and N,O-bidentate ligand (pyridyl nitrogen and carbonyl oxygen) for Pr(3+) to form a chain structure in PrBr-na. For isonicotinamide, only carbonyl oxygen atom is coordinated to Ca(2+). Pyridyl nitrogen and carbonyl oxygen of picolinamide are coordinated to Ca(2+) to form a five-membered ring structure. The crystal structure and spectroscopic results indicate the differences of the coordination of Ca and Pr ions, the changes of hydrogen bonds and conformation of the ligands induced by complexation. Unlike transition metal ions, Sr(2+) or lanthanide ions, Ca(2+) is inclined to coordinate to carbonyl oxygen atoms of the ligands.

Structural diversities in Cu(i) and Ag(i) sulfonate coordination polymers and their anion exchange properties

Cu(i)/Ag(i) sulfonate CPs have been synthesized and characterized. One of the CPs exhibits a reversible anion exchange for perchlorate and permanganate.

In a one-dimensional mixed-ligand Ag(i) coordination polymer, an infinite 1D T4(0)A(0)6(0) water tape and discrete water hexamers were simultaneously encapsulated.

Growth of oriented p-aminobenzoic acid crystals by directional freezing

Oriented long needle-like p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) crystals are successfully prepared by directional freezing of PABA solution in this work. The width of the oriented crystals is controlled by changing the directional cooling rate, resulting in varying crystal morphologies and thermodynamic properties while maintaining the same chemical structure.

Two photoluminescent silver(I) saccharinate complexes: The formation of a potassium-oxygen cluster, and Ag ··· π and (O—H) ··· Ag interactions

Two new Ag(I)-saccharinate complexes, K[Ag(sac)2] · H2O (1) and [Ag(sac)(ina)] · 1.5 H2O (2) (sac = saccharinate and ina = isonicotinamide), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The silver atoms adopt a linear AgN2 geometry in each case defined by two sac ligands in 1, and one sac and one ina ligand in 2. In 1, the anionic complex units are linked into a two-dimensional array by two potassium atoms, forming an eight-membered bimetallic ring and a K2O10 potassium−oxygen cluster. Complex 2 shows rare (O—H) ··· Ag and (N—H) ··· Ag interactions. The molecules are connected by Ag ··· Csac (η3) interactions involväing the saccharinate-phenyl rings.

trans-Tetraaquabis[1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane-κN]cobalt(II) biphenyl-4,4′-disulfonate monohydrate

In the title compound, [Co(C₁₃H₁₄N₂)₂(H₂O)₄](C₁₂H₈O₆S₂)·H₂O, the cation, anion and uncoordinated water mol­ecule have crystallographically imposed twofold symmetry. The cobalt(II) atom exhibits a slightly distorted octa­hedral coordination geometry provided by two N atoms from two 1,3-bis­(4-pyrid­yl)propane ligands and the O atoms from four water mol­ecules. The dihedral angle between the pyridine rings in the ligand is 86.14 (11)°, whereas the dihedral angle formed by the symmetry-related benzene rings in the anion is 35.81 (12)°. In the crystal, cations, anions and water mol­ecules are linked into layers parallel to the ac plane by O—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen-bond inter­actions. The layers are further connected into a three-dimensional network by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

A series of silver(I) pyridone-sulfonates with 1-D "butterfly" chain, 2-D lamellar network and 3-D pillared layered frameworks: syntheses, structures and characterizations

A series of silver(I) pyridone-sulfonates, namely [Ag5(HL1)3(NO3)2(H2O)]n (1) [Ag2(HL1)2]n.2nH2O (2), [Ag2(HL1)(NO3)]n (3), and [Ag3(HL2)2(NO3)(H2O)]n (4) (HL1 = 4(1H)-pyridone-3-sulfonate monoanion, HL2 = 2(1H)-pyridone-5-sulfonate monoanion), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TG, PL and X-ray analyses. Complex 1, which exhibits a novel continuous silver polyhedral framework containing four kinds of coordination spheres, has been recently reported. Complex 2 presents the first one-dimensional (1-D) "butterfly" array composed of SO3-bridged columns of Ag(I) ions and symmetric pendant organic groups in silver(I) sulfonates, while complex 3 possesses a two-dimensional (2-D) layer structure in which the inorganic network substructure consists of helical chains of edge-sharing Ag1 distorted octahedra linked through dimers of edge-sharing Ag2 distorted anti-trigonal prisms by sharing two corners and two edges. Replacing H2L1 by H2L2 leads to the formation of complex 4, a three-dimensional (3-D) pillared layered framework, which is also extended by the rare mu4 nitrate anion. In complexes 1-4, all the inorganic parts can be considered as being built up from versatile polyhedra of silver(I) centers by sharing corners, edges or faces. The sulfonic group shows some novel coordination modes, which is first reported here. Solid-state fluorescence quenching and thermal stability are discussed for all of these complexes.
