Abstract
o-Hydroxyarylphosphanes are fascinating compounds by their multiple-reactivity features, attributed to the ambident hard and soft Lewis- and also Brønstedt acid-base properties, wide tuning opportunities via backbone substituents with ±mesomeric and inductive, at P and in o-position to P and O also steric effects, and in addition, the configurational stability at three-valent phosphorus. Air sensitivity may be overcome by reversible protection with BH3 , but the easy oxidation to P(V)-compounds may also be used. Since the first reports on the title compounds ca. 50 years ago the multiple reactivity has led to versatile applications. This includes various P-E-O and P=C-O heterocycles, a multitude of O-substituted derivatives including acyl derivatives for traceless Staudinger couplings of biomolecules with labels or functional substituents, phosphane-phosphite ligands, which like the o-phosphanylphenols itself form a range of transition metal complexes and catalysts. Also main group metal complexes and (bi)arylphosphonium-organocatalysts are derived. Within this review the various strategies for the access of the starting materials are illuminated, including few hints to selected applications.

Abstract
In this work, a hexanuclear lithium compound, [Li6(MesalO)6] (1), supported by a chelating ligand, namely methyl salicylato (MesalOH), was used as a precursor for preparation of the monomeric lithium aryloxides [Li(MesalO)(MesalOH)] (2) and [Li(MesalO)(MeOH)2] (3) via reactions with MesalOH or MeOH. These aryloxides were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopic and other analytical methods. The diffusion-ordered 1H NMR measurements revealed the retention of solid-state structures of 1 and 2 in THF-d8 solution. Experimental data obtained for 3 showed its decomposition into compound 1 and free MeOH. Compound 1 generated from 3 was also used as a catalyst for the alcoholysis of l-lactide (l-LA) and glycolide (GA) for the preparation of α-hydroxy acid esters. We established that during methanolysis in the presence of 1, l-LA was selectively transformed into methyl (S,S)-O-lactyllactate (MeL2), and GA was converted to methyl glycolate (MeG1) and oligoglycolate esters MeGn (n = 2, 3, and 4).

Abstract
The central phosphorus atom of a novel hydroxyl-functionalized triarylphosphane was shown to reversibly insert into one of the molecule's O-H bonds, which forms the basis for a tautomeric λ3/λ5-phosphane equilibrium. For the first time, this equilibrium was detected for a λ3-triarylphosphane and the underlying dynamic process was elucidated by NMR spectroscopy. On the basis of reactivity studies, a nucleophilic character was assigned to the minor species present in solution, the λ3-phosphane. Upon methylation, for example, the λ3-form was selectively removed from the equilibrium and converted to the corresponding phosphonium salt. However, upon generation of an alkoxide via proton abstraction, the electrophilic character of the λ5-phosphane in the equilibrium became evident since the alkoxide was found to attack the molecule's phosphorus atom. This intramolecular reaction led to the selective formation of a new anionic λ6-hydridospirophosphane.

Abstract
The synthesis and structural characterization of a series of homo- and heteropolynuclear clusters constructed with a potentially tetradentate phosphine triphenolate ligand are presented. Treatment of tris(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)phosphine (H3[O3P]) with 3 equiv of nBuLi in diethyl ether at -35 °C affords hexanuclear Li6[O3P]2(OEt2)2 (1) as colorless crystals. In situ lithiation of H3[O3P] with 3 equiv of nBuLi in THF at -35 °C followed by metathetical reactions with MnCl2 or NiCl2(DME) gives crystals of forest green pentanuclear MnLi4[O3P]2(THF)3 (2) or dark brown tetranuclear Ni2Li2[O3P]2(THF)2 (3), respectively. Alkane elimination of ZnR2 (R = Me, Et) with H3[O3P] in THF at 25 °C generates high yields of colorless crystalline trinuclear Zn3[O3P]2(THF)2 (4). The cluster structures of 1-4 were all determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. These molecules represent the first examples of metal complexes supported by phosphine triphenolate derivatives. The cluster 2 contains a paramagnetic core of high spin Mn(II) (S = 5/2) as indicated by solution and solid state magnetic susceptibility measurements.

Abstract
Lithium compounds of tetradentate amino-bis(phenolato)-tetrahydrofuranyl ligands, Li(2)[L1] (1) and Li(2)[L2] (2) (where [L1] = 2-tetrahydrofuranyl-N,N-bis(2-methylene-4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenolate), and [L2] = 2-tetrahydrofuranyl-N,N-bis(2-methylene-4,6-tert-butylphenolate)) were characterized by multinuclear solution NMR and solid-state (6)Li and (7)Li NMR spectroscopy. The proligands, n-propylamino-N,N-bis(2-methylene-4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol), (H(2)[L3]) and benzylamino-N,N-bis(2-methylene-4,6-di-tert-amylphenol), H(2)[L4] were reacted with n-butyllithium in THF to give the related dilithium compounds Li(2)[L3] (4) and Li(2)[L4] (5), respectively. The pyridine adduct of 1, (py)(2)Li(2)[L1] (3) and complexes 4 and 5 have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy. The reactivity of these complexes for the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide, as well as the influences of monomer concentration, monomer/Li molar ratio, polymerization temperature and time, were studied.

Abstract
The lithium complexes RP(3,5-tBu2C6H2OLi)2(THF)4, where R = Ph or iPr, (R[OPO]Li2)2(THF)4, can be converted quantitatively into the protonated forms, R[OPO]H2, by reaction with Et3NHCl. Reaction of the protonated compounds with KH yields the potassium complexes (Ph[OPO]K2)2(THF)6 and (iPr[OPO]K2)3(THF)3. The reaction of R[OPO]H2 with TaCl5 yields the sparingly soluble tantalum trichloride complexes R[OPO]TaCl3 via elimination of HCl. Reaction of Ph[OPO]H2 with TaMe3Cl2 leads to the monomethyl complex Ph[OPO]TaMeCl2, or the dimethyl halide complex, Ph[OPO]TaMe2Cl, via protonolysis, and the potassium complex (Ph[OPO]K2)2(THF)6 yields the trimethyl complex, Ph[OPO]TaMe3 by a metathesis process.
