Abstract
Total synthesis of cis and trans diastereomers of prenylated davanoids like davanone, nordavanone, and davana acid ethyl ester was achieved in an enantioselective strategy. Various other davanoids could also be synthesized using standard procedures from the Weinreb amides derived from davana acids. Enantioselectivity in our synthesis was achieved employing a Crimmins' non-Evans syn aldol reaction that fixed the stereochemistry of the C3-hydroxyl group, while the C2-methyl group was epimerized in a late stage of the synthesis. A Lewis acid-mediated cycloetherification reaction was used to establish the tetrahydrofuran core of these molecules. Interestingly, a slight alteration of the Crimmins' non-Evans syn aldol protocol led to the complete conversion of the aldol adduct to the core tetrahydrofuran ring of davanoids, thus essentially dovetailing two important steps in the synthesis. The resulting one-pot tandem aldol-cycloetherification strategy enabled the enantioselective synthesis of trans davana acid ethyl esters and 2-epi-davanone/nordavanone in just three steps in excellent overall yields. The modularity of the approach will enable the synthesis of various other isomers in stereochemically pure forms for further biological profiling of this important class of molecules.

Abstract
1,4- and 1,5-diols undergo cyclodehydration upon treatment with cationic N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-IrIII complexes to give tetrahydrofurans and tetrahydropyrans, respectively. The mechanism was investigated, and a metal-hydride-driven pathway was proposed for all substrates, except for very electron-rich ones. This contrasts with the well-established classical pathways that involve nucleophilic substitution.

Abstract
Synthesis of β-C-D-galactosyl D- and L-alanines is carried out via a highly stereoselective Grignard reaction of glycosyl iodides, Sharpless dihydroxylation and S(N)2 displacement of the corresponding mesylate or tosylate. Alternatively, attempted triflation of the intermediate alcohols triggers a stereoselective debenzylative cyclization leading to interesting bicyclic trans-fused compounds.

Abstract
A short route for the synthesis of Pachastrissamine (Jaspine B), an anhydrosphingosine derivative, and all three of its diastereomers is presented. The route consists of only 9 steps from the commercially available Garner's aldehyde. The furan framework is formed via an η(3)-allylpalladium intermediate.

Abstract
A highly stereoselective synthesis of C-vinyl furanosides through the S(N)2 inversion at the C-3 position of the 1,2-dideoxy-hept-1-enitols is disclosed. Treatment of the 1,2-dideoxy-hept-1-enitols with diphenylammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate as the acid catalyst produced the C-vinyl furanosides (3,6-anhydro-1,2-dideoxy-hept-1-enitol derivatives) via a subsequent S(N)2 intramolecular debenzyloxyation-cycloetherification reaction at the C-3 position.
