Abstract
The reaction of UO2 (OAc)2 ⋅ 2H2 O with the biologically inspired ligand 2-salicylidene glucosamine (H2 L1 ) results in the formation of the anionic trinuclear uranyl complex [(UO2 )3 (μ3 -O)(L1 )3 ]2- (12- ), which was isolated in good yield as its Cs-salt, [Cs]2 1. Recrystallization of [Cs]2 1 in the presence of 18-crown-6 led to formation of a neutral ion pair of type [M(18-crown-6)]2 1, which was also obtained for the alkali metal ions Rb+ and K+ (M=Cs, Rb, K). The related ligand, 2-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthylidene) glucosamine (H2 L2 ) in a similar procedure with Cs+ gave the corresponding complex [Cs(18-crown-6)]2 [(UO2 )3 (μ3 -O)(L2 )3 ([Cs(18-crown-6)]2 2). From X-ray investigations, the [(UO2 )3 O(Ln )3 ]2- anion (n=1, 2) in each complex is a discrete trinuclear uranyl species that coordinates to the alkali metal ion via three uranyl oxygen atoms. The coordination behavior of H2 L1 and H2 L2 towards UO2 2+ was investigated by NMR, UV/Vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, revealing the in situ formation of the 12- and 22- dianions in solution.

Abstract
The development of convenient and efficient fluorescence techniques is of great significance for selective detection and precise determination of biotoxic N2H4 in human health and environmental sciences. By the pre-organization-assisted template synthesis, disclosed here is a luminescent Sm(III) macrocycle-based probe Sm-2m bearing dynamic imine bonds as recognition moieties which provides the selective and ratiometric turn-off fluorescence sensing for N2H4 over various amine species based on the N2H4-induced structure transformation. This fluorescent sensing process finished within 20 min shows the low limit of detection (0.18 μM, 7.2 ppb) and wide linear sensing range (0-60.0 μM). Furthermore, probe Sm-2m is also be used to quantitatively determine N2H4 in vapor gas and water samples through fluorescence color changes, which are evaluated by the Sm-2m-impregnated test paper strips and RGB value outputs. Finally, our proposed smartphone-based analytical method gives satisfactory N2H4 detection results. It is thus believed that this work can shed some lights on development of optical probes and detection techniques for N2H4, even other hazardous chemicals.

Abstract
A new dinuclear uranyl salen coordination compound, [(UO2)2(L)2]·2MeCN [L = 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-((2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(azaneylylidene))-bis(methaneylylidene))bis(2-methoxyphenol)], was synthesized using a multifunctional salen ligand to harvest visible light for the selective photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to MeOH. The assembling of the two U centers into one coordination moiety via a chelating-bridging doubly deprotonated tetradentate ligand allowed the formation of U centers with distorted pentagonal bipyramid geometry. Such construction of compounds leads to excellent activity for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2, permitting a production rate of 1.29 mmol g-1 h-1 of MeOH with an apparent quantum yield of 18%. Triethanolamine (TEOA) was used as a sacrificial electron donor to carry out the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. The selective methanol formation was purely a photocatalytic phenomenon and confirmed using isotopically labeled 13CO2 and product analysis by 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The spectroscopic studies also confirmed the interaction of CO2 with the molecule of the title complex. The results of these efforts made it possible to understand the reaction mechanism using ESI-mass spectrometry.

Abstract
The reactions of UO2(OAc)2·2H2O with benzil bis(isonicotinoyl hydrazone) ligand (H2L) in varied solvent media resulted in the formation of a series of new dioxouranium(vi) complexes 1-3 of the type UO2(L)(X), [where 1, X = DMF; 2, X = DMSO; 3, X = H2O]. The complexes were systematically characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Visible spectroscopy, TGA, mass spectrometry, cyclic voltammetry, and powder X-ray diffraction study. Among all the complexes, 1 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. It was found that 1 preferred a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry, in which an equatorial coordination plane was formed by the ONNO-tetradentate cavity of the deprotonated hydrazone ligand along with an additional oxygen atom of the coordinated solvent molecule. Thermal analysis suggested that complexes 1 and 3 undergo weight loss in the temperature range 180-210 °C and 100-120 °C, respectively, due to the ready release of their coordinated solvent molecules. Complexes 1-3 exhibited analogous UV-Visible absorption bands and the intense band between 300-600 nm was assigned to the M ← L and n → π* transitions. Weakly resolved reduction waves assigned to {UO2}2+/{UO2}+ couple were observed for complexes 1 and 2 {1, -1.76 V; 2, -1.75 V; vs. ferrocenium/ferrocene (Fc+/Fc)} in DMSO solution, signifying the feeble electron-donating nature of the L2- ligand. Powder X-ray diffraction study suggested that the crystallite size of all the complexes was in the nanoscale range. Further analysis using density functional theory (DFT) calculations provided structural insights as well as information on the electronic properties of both complex 1 and the ligand.

Oligonuclear Actinoid Complexes with Schiff Bases as Ligands-Older Achievements and Recent Progress. Int J Mol Sci 2020; 21:ijms21020555. Abstract
Even 155 years after their first synthesis, Schiff bases continue to surprise inorganic chemists. Schiff-base ligands have played a major role in the development of modern coordination chemistry because of their relevance to a number of interdisciplinary research fields. The chemistry, properties and applications of transition metal and lanthanoid complexes with Schiff-base ligands are now quite mature. On the contrary, the coordination chemistry of Schiff bases with actinoid (5f-metal) ions is an emerging area, and impressive research discoveries have appeared in the last 10 years or so. The chemistry of actinoid ions continues to attract the intense interest of many inorganic groups around the world. Important scientific challenges are the understanding the basic chemistry associated with handling and recycling of nuclear materials; investigating the redox properties of these elements and the formation of complexes with unusual metal oxidation states; discovering materials for the recovery of trans-{UVIO2}2+ from the oceans; elucidating and manipulating actinoid-element multiple bonds; discovering methods to carry out multi-electron reactions; and improving the 5f-metal ions’ potential for activation of small molecules. The study of 5f-metal complexes with Schiff-base ligands is a currently “hot” topic for a variety of reasons, including issues of synthetic inorganic chemistry, metalosupramolecular chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, separation strategies for nuclear fuel processing and nuclear waste management, bioinorganic and environmental chemistry, materials chemistry and theoretical chemistry. This almost-comprehensive review, covers aspects of synthetic chemistry, reactivity and the properties of dinuclear and oligonuclear actinoid complexes based on Schiff-base ligands. Our work focuses on the significant advances that have occurred since 2000, with special attention on recent developments. The review is divided into eight sections (chapters). After an introductory section describing the organization of the scientific information, Sections 2 and 3 deal with general information about Schiff bases and their coordination chemistry, and the chemistry of actinoids, respectively. Section 4 highlights the relevance of Schiff bases to actinoid chemistry. Sections 5–7 are the “main menu” of the scientific meal of this review. The discussion is arranged according the actinoid (only for Np, Th and U are Schiff-base complexes known). Sections 5 and 7 are further arranged into parts according to the oxidation states of Np and U, respectively, because the coordination chemistry of these metals is very much dependent on their oxidation state. In Section 8, some concluding comments are presented and a brief prognosis for the future is attempted.

Abstract
This study provides en route activity of hydration water allied with uranyl salts amid complexation reactions with a donor species L bearing O, N, and S (phenolic, -OH; imine, -HC═N-; and thio-, -S-) donor functionalities. The UO22+/L reaction encounters a series of hydrolytic steps with hydration water released from uranyl salts during the complexation processes. Primarily, the coordinated [L(-HC=N)(OH)(-HC=N) → UO2(NO3)2/(OAc)2] species formed during the complexation process undergoes partial hydrolysis of the coordinated ligand resulting in the isolation of an aldehyde coordinated uranyl species [L(-HC=N)(OH)(-HC=O) → UO2(NO3)2/(OAc)2]. The influence of hydration water continued as the reaction further proceeded to the next stage resulting in alteration of the aldehyde coordinated uranyl species [L(-HC=N)(OH)(-HC=O) → UO2(NO3)2/(OAc)2] to an oxidized carboxy coordinated uranyl species [L(-HC=N) (OH){-C(═O)O} → (NO3)/(OAc)]2 without the use of any external oxidizing agents. These studies are of particular significance as they allow one to realize the adventitious role of hydration water released from commonly used uranyl salts during their reaction with organic donor substrates in nonaqueous medium. These results also form an experimental basis to understand the critical behavior of UO22+ ion activity (as oxidizing, reducing, or catalytic) relevant in many chemical, biological, and environmental processes.

Abstract
Two derivatives of organouranyl mononuclear complexes [UO2(L)THF] (1) and [UO2(L)Alc] (2), where L = (2,2'-(1E,1'E)-(2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-dyl)bis(azanylylidene, THF = Tetrahydrofuran, Alc = Alcohol), have been prepared. These complexes have been determined by elemental analyses, single crystal X-ray crystallography and various spectroscopic studies. Moreover, the structure of these complexes have also been studied by DFT and time dependent DFT measurements showing that both the complexes have distorted pentagonal bipyramidal environment around uranyl ion. TD-DFT results indicate that the complex 1 displays an intense band at 458.7 nm which is mainly associated to the uranyl centered LMCT, where complex 2 shows a band at 461.8 nm that have significant LMCT character. The bonding has been further analyzed by EDA and NBO. The photocatalytic activity of complexes 1 and 2 for the degradation of rhodamine-B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB) under the irradiation of 500W Xe lamp has been explored, and found more efficient in presence of complex 1 than complex 2 for both dyes. In addition, dye adsorption and photoluminescence properties have also been discussed for both complexes.

Abstract
Abstract
The synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and crystal structures of two uranyl complexes, [UO2(SALEN)(DMF)] (1) and [UO2(BPHA)2(DMF)] (2) {SALEN = N,N′-ethylenebis(salicylimine), DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, BPHA = N-phenyl benzohydroxamate} are described. The coordination geometry around the metal center in the mononuclear complexes can be best described as distorted pentagonal bipyramidal with an almost linear uranyl moiety. In addition to the van der Waal´s interactions, the crystal packing in the complexes is stabilized by weak intermolecular C–H…O hydrogen bonds involving the uranyl oxygen atoms, so generating two-dimensional arrays in both crystal structures.
