Influence of anionic sulfonate-containing co-ligands on the solid structures of silver complexes supported by 4,4′-bipyridine bridges

Coordination Polymers Based on Rhenium Octahedral Chalcocyanide Cluster Anions and Ag+ Cations with Bipyridine Analogs

A series of six coordination polymers based on octahedral cluster anions [Re₆Q₈(CN)₆]^4- (Q = S or Se) and Ag⁺ cations coordinated by bipyridine analogs were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Their structures have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 described by the general formula [{Ag(phen)}₄Re₆Q₈(CN)₆] (Q = Se (1), S (2); phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) exhibit layered structures assembled into a supramolecular network by CH…π contacts. At the same time, compounds [{Ag(bipym)}₂Ag₂Re₆Se₈(CN)₆] (bipym = 2,2'-bipyrimidine) (3), [{Ag₂(bipy)}Ag₂Re₆Se₈(CN)₆]·CH₃CN (bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine) (4) and [{Ag(dpbp)}₄Re₆Q₈(CN)₆]·2H₂O·2CH₃CN (Q = Se (5), S (6); dpbp = 4,4'-Di(4-pyridyl)biphenyl)) evince framework structures. In 1, 2, 5 and 6 weak Ag⋯Ag interactions are observed. All the compounds show luminescence in the red region. The luminescence quantum yields and lifetimes were found to be notably higher than those for most of the coordination polymers based on the octahedral rhenium cluster complexes.

Construction and Photoluminescent Properties of Schiff-Base Macrocyclic Mono-/Di-/Trinuclear ZnII Complexes with the Common 2-Ethylthiophene Pendant Arm

A new flexible 2-ethylthiophene pendant-armed dialdehyde (H₂tdd) was reacted with 1,3-propanediamine, [( S, S),( R, R),(±)]-1,2-diaminocyclohexane, and 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, giving birth to 36-membered [2 + 2] Schiff-base macrocyclic trinuclear Zn^II complex 1, 18-membered [1 + 1] mononuclear Zn^II macrocycles 2-4, chiral/racemic 34-membered [2 + 2] dinuclear Zn^II complexes 5-9, and 46-membered [2 + 2] dinuclear Zn^II macrocycles 10-12 via Zn^II ion template-assisted Schiff-base condensation. It is worth mentioning that the secondary template effects for nitrate and halide counterions have been observed in the 1,3-propanediamine involved imine condensation. In all [2 + 2] Zn^II macrocycles, dinuclear complexes 5-9 display a full-folded molecular conformation, while trinuclear complex 1 and dinuclear complexes 10-12 exhibit distinct half-folded structures in the presence or absence of intramolecular π-π stacking interactions between two phenolic rings of the dialdehyde component. Interestingly, a solvent-induced single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation was first achieved for two types of solvated mononuclear macrocycles 3a and 3b (H₂O vs CH₃CN) with folded and unfolded ligand conformations. In addition, the photoluminescent properties were studied for this family of Schiff-base macrocyclic Zn^II complexes as well as the dialdehyde precursor H₂tdd.

A novel three-dimensional AgI coordination polymer based on mixed naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate and aminoacetate ligands

The three-dimensional coordination polymer poly[[bis(μ₃-2-aminoacetato)di-μ-aqua-μ₃-(naphthalene-1,5-disulfonato)-hexasilver(I)] dihydrate], {[Ag₆(C₁₀H₆O₆S₂)(C₂H₄NO₂)₄(H₂O)₂]·2H₂O}n, based on mixed naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate (L1) and 2-aminoacetate (L2) ligands, contains two Ag(I) centres (Ag1 and Ag4) in general positions, and another two (Ag2 and Ag3) on inversion centres. Ag1 is five-coordinated by three O atoms from one L1 anion, one L2 anion and one water molecule, one N atom from one L2 anion and one AgI cation in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry. Ag2 is surrounded by four O atoms from two L2 anions and two water molecules, and two AgI cations in a slightly octahedral coordination geometry. Ag3 is four-coordinated by two O atoms from two L2 anions and two AgI cations in a slightly distorted square geometry, while Ag4 is also four-coordinated by two O atoms from one L1 and one L2 ligand, one N atom from another L2 anion, and one AgI cation, exhibiting a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. In the crystal structure, there are two one-dimensional chains nearly perpendicular to one another (interchain angle = 87.0°). The chains are connected by water molecules to give a two-dimensional layer, and the layers are further bridged by L1 anions to generate a novel three-dimensional framework. Moreover, hydrogen-bonding interactions consolidate the network.
