Abstract
A protocol for selective and efficient synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical m-terphenyls is presented among aryl acetylene and DMSO in the presence of KOH and methanol. In this reaction, two molecules of aryl acetylene contribute four carbons, and DMSO, as a dual carbon donor, provides two carbons to a new aromatic ring. This protocol can be tolerated for the electron-donating or disubstituted phenylacetylenes as well as the heterocyclic acetylene derivatives.

Abstract
An isoelectronic and isostructural series of cyclometalated azido complexes [M(N3)(dpb)] with M = Ni(II), Pd(II), Pt(II), and Au(III) based on the N^C^N pincer ligand 1,3-di(2-pyridyl)phenide (dpb) was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis and investigated for reactivity in the iClick reaction with a wide range of internal and terminal alkynes by using 1H and 19F NMR spectroscopy. Reaction rate constants were found to increase with greater charge density in the order Ni(II) > Pd(II) > Pt(II) > Au(III). Terminal alkynes R-C≡C-R' with strongly electron-withdrawing groups R and R' exhibited faster kinetics than those with electron-donating substituents in the order CF3 > ketone > ester > H > phenyl ≫ amide, while R = CH3 resulted in complete loss of reactivity. Four symmetrical triazolato complexes [M(triazolatoCOOCH3,COOCH3)(dpb)] with M = Ni(II), Pd(II), Pt(II), and Au(III) as well as four nonsymmetrically substituted triazolato complexes [Pt(triazolatoR,R')(dpb)] originating from terminal and internal alkynes were shown by X-ray crystal structure analysis to exclusively feature N2-coordination of the five-membered ring ligand. However, the Pt(II) triazolato complexes exist as a mixture of N1- and N2-coordinated species in solution. Torsion angles between the mean planes of the N^C^N pincer and the triazolato ligand increase from a nearly coplanar to a perpendicular arrangement when going from Au(III)/Pt(II)/Pd(II) to Ni(II), while different substituents R and R' on the alkyne have no influence on the torsion angle and were rationalized by DFT calculations. Finally, a carbohydrate derivative obtained by glucuronic acid conjugation to methyl propiolate demonstrates the facile biofunctionalization of metal complexes via the iClick reaction.

Abstract
Starting from commercially available DMSAuCl and diazonium salts, cationic [N∧C∧N
]AuIII complexes were synthesized in a selective, photosensitizer‐free, photochemical reaction by irradiation with blue LED light. This new protocol represents the first easy synthesis of these types of pincer complexes in moderate to excellent yield starting from a readily available gold(I) precursor with nitrogen as the only by‐product. Owing to the disadvantages of known protocols, especially the toxicity in the case of a transmetalation with mercury or the necessity for a mostly twofold excess of a gold precursor, this method offers an attractive alternative towards this kind of gold(III) complexes. In addition, the first arylated [N∧C∧N
]Au(III) pincer complex was synthesized by using this technology.

Abstract
One of the main tactics to access C-N bonds from inactivated C-H functionalities is direct transition metal-supported aminations. Due to the often harsh reaction conditions, the current goal in the field is the search for more mild and sustainable transformations. Herein, we present the first solvent-free thermally induced C-N bond formation driven by Au(III) salts. The general structure of the products was confirmed by 1H, 13C, 15N NMR, TGA-DTA and ATR/FT-IR analysis. Additionally, all derivatives were tested as catalysts in a three-component coupling reaction between phenylacetylene, benzaldehyde and piperidine and as anticancer agents on HL-60 and MCF-7 cell lines.

Abstract
We synthesised palladium and platinum complexes possessing cyclic and acyclic pincer-type polyaromatic ligands and investigated their structural effect on the catalysis. The pincer-type bis(6-arylpyridin-2-yl)benzene skeleton was constructed via Kröhnke pyridine synthesis under transition metal-free conditions on gram-scale quantity. Ligand structure significantly influenced catalytic activity toward the platinum-catalysed hydrosilylation of diphenyl acetylenes, despite the ligand-independence of the conformations and electronic properties of these complexes.

Abstract
A smart steric control of the metallocene backbone in bis- and poly(phosphino)ferrocene ligands favors intramolecular aurophilic interactions between [AuCl] fragments in polynuclear gold(I) complexes. We synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis mono-, di-, and polynuclear gold complexes of constrained ferrocenyl diphosphines, which bear either bulky tert-butyl groups or more flexible siloxane substituents at the cyclopentadienyl rings. The complexes meso-1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-3,3'-di-tert-butylferrocene (4-m), rac-1,1'-bis[bis(5-methyl-2-furyl)phosphino]-3,3'-di-tert-butylferrocene (5-r), and rac-1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-3,3'-bis[(tri-iso-propylsilyl)oxy]ferrocene (6-r) were used to form dinuclear gold complexes. Coordination of tert-butylated ferrocenyl phosphines generated aurophilic interactions in the corresponding dinuclear gold complexes, contrary to gold(I) complexes reported with 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene. The structurally related tetraphosphine 1,1',2,2'-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)-4,4'-di-tert-butylferrocene (11) also gave access to mononuclear, dinuclear, and the original trinuclear gold chloride aurophilic complexes in which 14e- to 16e- gold centers coexist. In such complexes, nonbonded ("through-space") 31P-31P' nuclear spin couplings were evidenced by high-resolution NMR. In these interactions nuclear spin information is transferred between the lone-pair electron of an uncoordinated phosphorus P and a phosphorus P' that is involved in a σ covalent bond Au-P'. The dinuclear aurophilic complex displayed a concerted shuttling of its [ClAu···AuCl] fragment between the four phosphorus donors of the tetraphosphine ligand. Thus, an aurophilic Au···Au bond, which is assumed to be a weak energy interaction, can be conserved within a dynamic shuttling process at high temperature involving an intramolecular coordination-decoordination process of digold(I) at phosphorus atoms.

Abstract
A detailed examination was performed on photophysical properties of phosphorescent cyclometalated (C(^)N)Pt(O(^)O) complexes (ppy)Pt(dpm) (1), (ppy)Pt(acac) (1'), and (bzq)Pt(dpm) (2) and newly synthesized (dbq)Pt(dpm) (3) (C(^)N = 2-phenylpyridine (ppy), benzo[h]quinoline (bzq), dibenzo[f,h]quinoline (dbq); O(^)O = dipivolylmethanoate (dpm), acetylacetonate (acac)). Compounds 1, 1', 2, and 3 were further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural changes brought about by cyclometalation were determined by comparison with X-ray data from model C(^)N ligand precursors. The compounds emit from metal-perturbed, ligand-centered triplet states (E(0-0) = 479 nm, 1; E(0-0) = 495 nm, 2; E(0-0) = 470 nm, 3) with disparate radiative rate constants (kr = 1.4 × 10(5) s(-1), 1; kr = 0.10 × 10(5) s(-1), 2; kr = 2.6 × 10(5) s(-1), 3). Zero-field splittings of the triplet states (ΔE(III-I) = 11.5 cm(-1), 1'; ΔE(III-I) < 2 cm(-1), 2; ΔE(III-I) = 46.5 cm(-1), 3) were determined using high resolution spectra recorded in Shpol'skii matrices. The fact that the E0-0 energies do not correspond to the extent of π-conjugation in the aromatic C(^)N ligand is rationalized on the basis of structural distortions that occur upon cyclometalation using data from single crystal X-ray analyses of the complexes and ligand precursors along with the triplet state properties evaluated using theoretical calculations. The wide variation in the radiative rate constants and zero-field splittings is also explained on the basis of how changes in the electronic spin density in the C(^)N ligands in the triplet state alter the spin-orbit coupling in the complexes.
