Abstract
A Ni-catalyzed reductive arylalkenylation of alkynes with 1-bromo-2-(2-chlorovinyl)arenes in the presence of zinc powder has been developed. This base-free cyclization provides a novel protocol for the selective synthesis of 2-trifluoromethyl naphthalenes and ethyl 2-naphthoates from simple starting materials in moderate to good yields with excellent tolerance of functional groups.

Abstract
We describe here a Ni-catalyzed intermolecular carbo-fluoromethylation of alkynes with aliphatic halides and fluoromethyl halides (BrCF 2 H and ICH 2 F) in the presence of zinc, enabling the facile and selective access to a diverse range of biologically valuable CF 2 H/CH 2 F-incorporated alkenes with excellent regio- and stereo-selectivity. Notably, merging intramolecular radical cyclization with fluoromethyl coupling enables the expedient constructions of CF 2 H/CH 2 F-incorporated lactones and lactams with high efficiency and selectivity. Mechanistic studies disclose that this catalytic protocol proceeds via a radical addition to an alkyne followed by selective coupling with the fluoromethyl unit.

Abstract
A novel 1,2-difunctionalization of alkynones via an umpolung strategy for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted olefins has been developed. This procedure is realized by a formal C-C σ-bond cleavage reaction of cyclic α,α-dithioketones and subsequent deprotection. Notable features of this approach include excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, and operational simplicity.

Abstract
Since the first studies about fifty years ago, the direct formation of C-C bonds, catalyzed by nickel complexes, has appeared as an important research topic, and has re-emerged recently as a renewal of nickel chemistry. This account provides a summary of the use of nickel complexes in catalysis, and highlights the evolution of our own research.

Abstract
The efficiency of the intramolecular carbonickelation of substituted allylic ethers and amines has been studied to evaluate the influence of the groups borne by the double bond on this cyclization. The results show that when this reaction takes place, it affords only the 5-exo-trig cyclization products, viz. dihydrobenzofurans or indoles. Depending on the tethered heteroatom (O or N), the outcome of the cyclization differs. While allylic ethers are relatively poor substrates that undergo a side elimination and need an intracyclic double bond to proceed, allylic amines react well and afford indoline and indole derivatives. Finally, the synthesis of the trinuclear ACE core of a morphine-like skeleton was achieved by using NiBr2bipy catalysis.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed alkenylation of enolates provides a direct method to synthesize broadly useful β,γ-unsaturated carbonyl compounds from the corresponding carbonyl compound and alkenyl halides. Despite being reported in the early seventies, this reaction class saw little development for many years. In the past decade, however, efforts to develop this reaction further have increased considerably, and many research groups have reported efficient coupling protocols, including enantioselective versions. These reactions most commonly employ palladium catalysts, but there are also some important reports using nickel. There are many examples of this powerful transformation being used in the synthesis of complex natural products.

Abstract
![]()
A general method is presented for the synthesis of alkylated
arenes by the chemoselective combination of two electrophilic carbons.
Under the optimized conditions, a variety of aryl and vinyl bromides
are reductively coupled with alkyl bromides in high yields. Under
similar conditions, activated aryl chlorides can also be coupled with
bromoalkanes. The protocols are highly functional-group tolerant (−OH,
−NHTs, −OAc, −OTs, −OTf, −COMe,
−NHBoc, −NHCbz, −CN, −SO2Me),
and the reactions are assembled on the benchtop with no special precautions
to exclude air or moisture. The reaction displays different chemoselectivity
than conventional cross-coupling reactions, such as the Suzuki–Miyaura,
Stille, and Hiyama–Denmark reactions. Substrates bearing both
an electrophilic and nucleophilic carbon result in selective coupling
at the electrophilic carbon (R–X) and no reaction at the nucleophilic
carbon (R–[M]) for organoboron (−Bpin), organotin (−SnMe3), and organosilicon (−SiMe2OH) containing
organic halides (X–R–[M]). A Hammett study showed a
linear correlation of σ and σ(−) parameters with
the relative rate of reaction of substituted aryl bromides with bromoalkanes.
The small ρ values for these correlations (1.2–1.7) indicate
that oxidative addition of the bromoarene is not the turnover-frequency
determining step. The rate of reaction has a positive dependence on
the concentration of alkyl bromide and catalyst, no dependence upon
the amount of zinc (reducing agent), and an inverse dependence upon
aryl halide concentration. These results and studies with an organic
reductant (TDAE) argue against the intermediacy of organozinc reagents.
