Abstract
An N2O donor reduced Schiff base in presence of Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O and SCN− transforms into N2O2 donor ligand via deaminative coupling. Metal complexes 1 and 3 exhibit catecholase like activity and antiferromagnetic coupling between the Ni(ii) ions.

Abstract
A series of rare-earth metal diisopropylamide complexes has been obtained via salt metathesis employing LnCl3(THF)x and lithium (LDA) or sodium diisopropylamide (NDA) in n-hexane. Reactions with AM : Ln ratios ≥3 gave ate complexes (AM)Ln(NiPr2)4(THF)n (n = 1, 2; Ln = Sc, Y, La, Lu; AM = Li, Na) in good yields. For smaller rare-earth metal centres such as scandium and lutetium, a Li : Ln ratio = 2.5 accomplished ate-free tris(amido) complexes Ln(NiPr2)3(THF). The chloro-bridged dimeric derivatives [Ln(NiPr2)2(μ-Cl)(THF)]2 (Ln = Sc, Y, La, Lu) could be obtained in high yields for Li : Ln = 1.6-2. The product resulting from the Li : La = 1 : 1.6 reaction revealed a crystal structure containing two different molecules in the crystal lattice, [La(NiPr2)2(THF)(μ-Cl)]2·La(NiPr2)3(THF)2. Recrystallization of the chloro-bridged dimers led to the formation of the monomeric species Ln(NiPr2)2Cl(THF)2 (Ln = Sc, Lu) and La(NiPr2)3(THF)2. The reaction of YCl3 and LDA with Li : Y = 2 in the absence of THF gave a bimetallic ate complex LiY(NiPr2)4 with a chain-like structure. For scandium, the equimolar reactions with LDA or NDA yielded crystals of tetrametallic mono(amido) species, {[Sc(NiPr2)Cl2(THF)]2(LiCl)}2 and [Sc(NiPr2)Cl2(THF)]4, respectively. Depending on the Ln(iii) size, AM, and presence of a donor solvent, ate complexes (AM)Ln(NiPr2)4(THF)n show distinct dynamic behaviour as revealed by variable temperature NMR spectroscopy. The presence of weak LnCH(iPr) β-agostic interactions, as indicated by Ln-N-C angles <105°, is corroborated by DFT calculations and NBO analysis.

Abstract
Electronic properties of the aminophenolate groups have obvious effect on the synthesis of aminophenolate lanthanide-lithium complexes. Amine elimination reactions of Ln[N(SiMe3)2]3(μ-Cl)Li(THF)3 with lithium aminophenolates [ArNHCH2(3,5-(t)Bu2C6H2-2-O)Li(THF)]2 (Ar = p-ClC6H4, [ONH](Cl-p); p-BrC6H4, [ONH](Br-p)) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) in a 1 : 2 molar ratio gave the bimetallic lanthanide-lithium amido complexes [NO](Cl-p)2Ln[N(SiMe3)2][Li(THF)]2 (Ln = Y (1), Yb (2)), and [NO](Br-p)2Ln[N(SiMe3)2][Li(THF)]2 (Ln = Y (3), Yb (4)). When the Ar groups are p-MeOC6H4, ([ONH](MeO-p)) and o-MeOC6H4 ([ONH](MeO-o)), similar reactions generated the homoleptic lanthanide-lithium complexes [NO](MeO-p)3Ln[Li(THF)]3 (Ln = Y (5), Yb (6)) and [NO](MeO-o)2Ln[Li(THF)] (Ln = Y (7), Yb (8)) in high isolated yields, respectively. Whereas the bimetallic lanthanide-lithium amido complexes [NO](Cl-o)2Ln[N(SiMe3)2][Li(THF)]2 (Ln = Y (9), Yb (10)) can be obtained in good yields, when the Ar group is o-ClC6H4 ([ONH](Cl-o)). All of these complexes were well characterized. X-ray structure determination revealed that these complexes have solvated monomeric structures. In complexes 1-4, 9, and 10, the lanthanide atom is five-coordinated by two oxygen atoms and two nitrogen atoms from two aminophenoxy ligands and one nitrogen atom from N(SiMe3)2 group to form a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry, whereas in complexes 5-8, the central lanthanide atom is six-coordinated by oxygen atoms, and nitrogen atoms from the aminophenoxy ligands to form a distorted octahedron. It was found that complexes 1-10 are highly efficient initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of 2,2-dimethyltrimethylene carbonate (DTC), affording the polymers with high molecular weights, and the homoleptic heterobimetallic lanthanide complexes showed apparently high activity.

Abstract
The monoamido lanthanide complexes stabilized by Schiff base ligand L(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (L = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-8-C(9)H(6)N, Ln = Yb (1), Y (2), Eu (3), Nd (4), and La (5)) were synthesized in good yields by the reactions of Ln[N(TMS)(2)](3) with 1.8 equiv of HL in hexane at room temperature. It was found that the stability of 1-5 depends greatly on the size of the lanthanide metals with the increasing trend of Yb ≈ Y < Nd < La. The amine elimination of Ln[N(TMS)(2)](3) with the bulky bidentate Schiff base HL' (L' = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-2,6-Pr(i)(2)-C(6)H(3)) afforded the monoamido lanthanide complexes L'(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (Ln = Yb (9), Y (10), Nd (11), and La (12)). While the amine elimination with the less bulky Schiff base HL'' (L'' = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-2,6-Me(2)-C(6)H(3)) yielded the desired monoamido complexes with the small metals of Y and Yb, L''(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (Ln = Yb (13) and Y (14)), and the more stable tris-Schiff base complexes with the large metals of La and Nd, yielded L''(3)Ln as the only product. Complexes 1-14 were fully characterized including X-ray crystal structural analysis. Complexes 1-5, 10, and 14 can serve as the efficient catalysts for addition of amines to carbodiimides, and the catalytic activity is greatly affected by the lanthanide metals with the active sequence of Yb < Y < Eu ≈ Nd ≈ La.
