Abstract
Electrochemical oxidation of Zn(II) 2,7,12,17-tetra-tert-butylporphyrin in the presence of a series of azole derivatives (1-methylimidazole, 1-vinyl-1H-imidazole, 2-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)pyridine, 1-methylbenzimidazole, 1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole, and benzothiazole) affords the corresponding meso-substituted azolium-porphyrins in very mild conditions and good yields. It was found that these nucleophiles were strongly ligated to the zinc(II) azolium-porphyrin complexes. Thus a demetalation/remetalation procedure was performed to recover the non-azole-coordinated zinc(II) complexes. X-ray crystallographic structures of three azolium-porphyrins were solved. Cyclic voltammetry analyses provided insight into the electron-withdrawing effect of the azolium substituents.

Abstract
This work reports on the synthesis and characterization of a new porphyrins complex:[Zn(TEBOP)(4,4'-bpy)](4,4'-bipyridine)(5,10,15,20-(tetraethyl-4(4-butyryl)oxyphenyl)porphyrinato)zinc(ii) (3). Single crystal X-ray diffraction, photophysical and electrochemical characteristics were studied. The prepared complex, penta-coordinated zinc(ii) porphyrin derivatives shows moderate ruffling distortion and the zinc atom is nearly planar with the porphyrin core. Tolyl and ethyl-4(4-butyryl)oxyphenyl) moieties at the meso positions present a bathochromic shift of the absorption bands, and a notable increase in the absorption coefficient of the Q(0,0) and Q(0,1) bands was observed with a higher fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime compared with the free base porphyrin. The electrochemical investigation shows a reversible reduction of the synthesized complexes. The catalytic power and the adsorption properties of the prepared complexes were studied for Calmagite degradation, an azoic organic dye. The results reveal that the studied compounds could be used as catalysts for the decolourisation of dyes in the presence of H2O2.

Abstract
Bromoporphyrins were prepared by the metal-mediated self-condensation of brominated 1-formyldipyrromethanes. Depending on the conditions, Mg(II)-2,12-dibromoporphyrin and Mg(II)-2-bromoporphyrin could be obtained in up to 11% and 17% isolated yield, respectively. Zn(II) was also a viable templating metal. The positions of the bromine substituents were confirmed by 2D-NMR spectroscopic analysis and the X-ray crystal structure of a derivative. Suzuki and Sonogashira reactions of the bromoporphyrins yielded 2-substituted or 2,12-disubstituted porphyrins with red-shifted absorption and emission spectra. This method provides access to the minimalist core of β-mono- and β,β'-disubstituted porphyrins from readily available starting materials.

Abstract
The electrochemical oxidation of a Ni(ii) tri-arylporphyrin leads to the 5-Cl and 5-OH-porphyrins, the meso–meso, meso-β and meso-β/meso-β doubly fused dimers depending on the experimental conditions. Among them, the Ni(ii) 5-Cl-porphyrin is isolated in good yield and its formation mechanism is elucidated.

Abstract
A mini-review of the characterisation of metal-containing compounds by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) is presented. Organometallic and coordination compounds have many varied applications, most notably in industrial catalytic processes and also in the electronics and healthcare sectors. In general, the compounds discussed, be they small or large molecules, have a high percentage metal content, rather than simply containing 'a metal atom'. A brief history of the field is given, but the main scope over the last 5 years is covered in some detail. How MALDI-TOFMS compliments electrospray for metal-containing compounds is highlighted. Perspectives on recent advances, such as solvent-free and air/moisture-sensitive sample preparation, and potential future challenges and developments, such as nanomaterials and metallodrug/metallometabolite imaging, are given.
