Abstract
The concept of metal-ligand cooperation opens new avenues for the design of catalytic systems that may offer alternative reactivity patterns to the existing ones. Investigations of this concept with ligands bearing a boron center in their skeleton established mechanistic pathways for the activation of small molecules in which the boron atom usually performs as an electrophile. Here, we show how this electrophilic behavior can be modified by the ligand trans to the boron center, evincing its ambiphilic nature. Treatment of diphosphinoboryl (PBP) nickel-methyl complex 1 with bis(catecholato)diboron (B2Cat2) allows for the synthesis of nickel(ii) bis-boryl complex 3 that promotes the clean and reversible heterolytic cleavage of dihydrogen leading to the formation of dihydroborate nickel complex 4. Density functional theory analysis of this reaction revealed that the heterolytic activation of H2 is facilitated by the cooperation of both boryl moieties and the metal atom in a concerted mechanism that involves a Ni(ii)/Ni(0)/Ni(ii) process. Contrary to 1, the boron atom from the PBP ligand in 3 behaves as a nucleophile, accepting a formally protic hydrogen, whereas the catecholboryl moiety acts as an electrophile, receiving the attack from the hydride-like fragment. This manifests the dramatic change in the electronic properties of a ligand by tuning the substituent trans to it and constitutes an unprecedented cooperative mechanism that involves two boryl ligands in the same molecule operating differently, one as a Lewis acid and the other one as a Lewis base, in cooperation with the metal. In addition, reactivity towards different nucleophiles such as amines or ammonia confirmed the electrophilic nature of the Bcat moiety, allowing the formation of aminoboranes.

Abstract
A series of binuclear homo- and heterobimetallic complexes of the general type (PNP)M-[linker]-M(PNP) have been prepared (M = Ni, Pd, Pt; PNP = a diarylamido/bis(phosphine) pincer ligand; -[linker]- = -C≡C-, -C≡CC≡C-, -C≡CC6H4C≡C-). Each (PNP)M site can be oxidized by one electron, and this work reports the investigation of the mixed-valence behavior in terms of the communication between the two redox sites and the degree of the delocalization in the monooxidized cation. The compounds were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis-NIR and EPR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and DFT calculations. The complex with the longest examined linker, (PNP)Ni-C≡CC6H4C≡C-Ni(PNP) (9Ni), exhibited no discernible communication between the redox sites. The homobimetallic complexes (PNP)M-C≡CC≡C-M(PNP) (6M) displayed a lower degree of communication in comparison to the -C≡C- linker analogues (PNP)M-C≡C-M(PNP) (3M). Within each of these two subsets, the relative degree of communication and delocalization was determined to be Pd < Ni ≤ Pt. On the Robin-Day scale, compounds 6M can be assigned class I for M = Pd and class II for M = Ni, Pt. Complex 3Pd also falls into class II, while 3Ni and 3Pt may be viewed as borderline class II/III cases. It is likely that the communication in the Ni systems has the advantage of the smaller size of Ni, resulting in a greater physical proximity of the redox sites, while the 5d metal Pt possesses the greatest ability for orbital interaction with the -C≡C- linker.

Abstract
A new unsymmetrical indene-based pro-ligand featuring thiophosphinoyle and methylpyridine sidearms 2 was prepared. Coordination and cyclometalation in the presence of [PdCl2(PhCN)2] and PS-DIEA afforded three well-defined 2-indenyl SCN pincer complexes 3a-c. The lability of the pyridine moiety has been evidenced upon treatment with triphenylphosphine and 2,6-dimethylphenylisocyanide. In addition, reversible C-Pd bond cleavage has been demonstrated under Brønsted acid/base conditions. The indenediide SCN pincer complex 4 was prepared by deprotonation of 3a in the presence of triphenylphosphine. Preliminary catalytic tests on the cycloisomerization of 4-pentynoic acid have underlined the impact of the pyridine sidearm on the catalytic activity.

Abstract
The reaction between [(PNpyrP)NiCl] (1, PNpyrP = 2,5-bis((di-iso-propylphosphino)-methyl)-1H-pyrrolide) and TlPF6 in the presence of a monodentate phosphine ligand led to cationic nickel phosphine and phosphite complexes, [(PNpyrP)Ni(PHPh2)][PF6] (2), [(PNpyrP)Ni(PMe3)][PF6] (3), and [(PNpyrP)Ni{P(OMe)3}][PF6] (4). Compound 2 can be deprotonated resulting in the generation of a terminal phosphido complex, [(PNpyrP)Ni(PPh2)] (5). When 3 is subjected to a base, a methyl proton of PMe3 is abstracted to afford [(PNpyrP)Ni(CH2PMe2)] (6), containing a methylene bridge between Ni and the external phosphine. Compounds 2-6 were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction in addition to multi-nuclear NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

Abstract
Transition metal hydride complexes are usually amphoteric, not only acting as hydride donors, but also as Brønsted-Lowry acids. A simple additive ligand acidity constant equation (LAC for short) allows the estimation of the acid dissociation constant Ka(LAC) of diamagnetic transition metal hydride and dihydrogen complexes. It is remarkably successful in systematizing diverse reports of over 450 reactions of acids with metal complexes and bases with metal hydrides and dihydrogen complexes, including catalytic cycles where these reactions are proposed or observed. There are links between pKa(LAC) and pKa(THF), pKa(DCM), pKa(MeCN) for neutral and cationic acids. For the groups from chromium to nickel, tables are provided that order the acidity of metal hydride and dihydrogen complexes from most acidic (pKa(LAC) -18) to least acidic (pKa(LAC) 50). Figures are constructed showing metal acids above the solvent pKa scales and organic acids below to summarize a large amount of information. Acid-base features are analyzed for catalysts from chromium to gold for ionic hydrogenations, bifunctional catalysts for hydrogen oxidation and evolution electrocatalysis, H/D exchange, olefin hydrogenation and isomerization, hydrogenation of ketones, aldehydes, imines, and carbon dioxide, hydrogenases and their model complexes, and palladium catalysts with hydride intermediates.

Abstract
The preparation and isolation of the first palladium dihydrogen complex is described. NMR spectroscopy reveals a very short H-H bond length, but the hydrogen molecule is activated toward heterolytic cleavage. An X-ray crystal structure suggests that proton transfer to the (tBu) PCP (κ(3)-2,6-((t)Bu2PCH2)2C6H3) pincer ligand is possible. The basicity of the ipso-carbon atom of the pincer ligand was investigated in a related complex.

Abstract
Nickel complexes of a PC(carbene)P pincer ligand framework are described. Dehydrobromination of the precursor (PC(sp)(3)P)NiBr in the presence of a donor (PPh3 or NC(t)Bu) leads to the title complexes, which feature a rare nickel-carbene linkage as the pincer ligand anchor point. This strongly donating, nucleophilic carbene center engages in a variety of E-H bond activations (E = H, C, N, O), some of which are reversible. This represents a new mode of bond activation by ligand cooperativity in nickel pincer complexes.
