Abstract
Iron (II) tris(2,2′-bipyridine) complexes, [Fe(bpy)3]2+, have been synthesized and immobilized in organosulfonate-functionalized nanostructured silica thin films taking advantage of the stabilization of [Fe(H2O)6]2+ species by hydrogen bonds to the anionic sulfonate moieties grafted to the silica nanopores. In a first step, thiol-based silica films have been electrochemically generated on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates by co-condensation of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). Secondly, the thiol function has been modified to sulfonate by chemical oxidation using hydrogen peroxide in acidic medium as an oxidizing agent. The immobilization of [Fe(bpy)3]2+ complexes has been performed in situ in two consecutive steps: (i) impregnation of the sulfonate functionalized silica films in an aqueous solution of iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate; (ii) dipping of the iron-containing mesostructures in a solution of bipyridine ligands in acetonitrile. The in situ formation of the [Fe(bpy)3]2+ complex is evidenced by its characteristic optical absorption spectrum, and elemental composition analysis using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The measured optical and electrochemical properties of immobilized [Fe(bpy)3]2+ complexes are not altered by confinement in the nanostructured silica thin film.

Abstract
A novel and selective electrochemical sensing of nicotine is studied using copper tungstate decorated reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite (CuWO4/rGO) nafion (Nf) immobilized GC electrode (GCE). The CuWO4/rGO nanocomposite is synthesized using sonication method and characterized by HR-TEM (High resolution transmission electron microscopy), SEM (Scanning electron microscopy), FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), SAED (Selected area of electron diffraction pattern), XRD (X-ray diffraction), Raman spectroscopy, Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and EDX (Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction) techniques. The CuWO4/rGO/Nf immobilized GCE shows better electrocatalytic response for the detection of nicotine as compared to bare GCE. A better selectivity and sensitivity is achieved using CuWO4/rGO/Nf immobilized GCE to detect 0.1 µM nicotine in the presence of 100-fold excess concentrations of different interferents. The present CuWO4/rGO/Nf immobilized GCE electrochemical sensor exhibits an ample range of sensing from 0.1 µM to 0.9 µM and the low detection limit is found to be 0.035 µM (S/N = 3). Comparable results are achieved for the determination of nicotine in various real samples such as cigarettes (Gold flake and Wills) and urine samples with improved recoveries.

Abstract
The derivatization of an intrinsic iron impurity in a carbon nanotube (CNT-*Fe, *Fe-intrinsic, and redox-active iron impurity) as a functional molecular system has been challenging to realize. There are certain limitations on the derivatization of such iron impurities such as low concentration and limited accessibility. Herein, we report an in situ electroassisted derivatization of an intrinsic and redox-active iron impurity in a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT-*Fe, *Fe, 2.1 wt %) as MWCNT-*Fe(bpy)3(2+), where Fe(bpy)3(2+) = iron(II)tris(2,2'-bipyridine) complex and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine. The hybrid complex was prepared by the electrochemical treatment of a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand adsorbed {MWCNT-*Fe + Nafion} modified glassy carbon electrode in pH 7 phosphate buffer solution. This new MWCNT-*Fe(bpy)3(2+) hybrid electrode showed well-defined, stable redox at E1/2 = 830 mV with a peak-to-peak separation (ΔEp) of 72 mV in a neutral pH solution. This is quite different from an ex situ Nafion-Fe(bpy)3(2+) complex system that showed an unstable response at neutral pH. This in situ approach can allow the redox-active iron impurity in the CNTs to be quantified using the current signal of the Fe(bpy)3(2+) hybrid system. This MWCNT-*Fe(bpy)3(2+) hybrid modified electrode was further used as an electrochemical detector for selective and separation-less flow injection analysis of DNA's purine bases, adenine and guanine, without interference from pyrimidine bases, cytosine, and thymine at different oxidative detection potentials of 1 V (for adenine and guanine) and 0.7 V vs Ag/AgCl (for guanine) using the pH 7 phosphate buffer solution as a carrier system.

Abstract
A transition metal complex, oxovanadium(IV) salen (where salen representsN,N′-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine) is immobilized on glassy carbon (GC) electrodes and utilized for electrocatalytic oxidation of cysteine. In presence of oxovanadium(IV) salen, increased oxidation current is observed due to the effective oxidation of cysteine by the electrogenerated oxovanadium(V) salen species. The oxidation current linearly varies with the concentration of cysteine from 0.1 to 1.0 mM. The modified electrode has good sensitivity and low limit of detection. These properties make the oxovanadium(IV) salen as an effective electrocatalyst for the determination of cysteine.

Abstract
In this work, the soluble cobalt phthalocyanine functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are synthesized by π-π stacking interaction between tetrakis (3-trifluoromethylphenoxy) phthalocyaninato cobalt(II) (CoPcF) complex and MWCNTs. The physical properties of CoPcF-MWCNTs hybrids are evaluated using spectroscopy (UV-vis, XPS, and Raman) and electron microscopy (TEM and SEM). Subsequently, an amperometric nitrite electrochemical sensor is designed by immobilizing CoPcF-MWCNTs hybrids on the glassy carbon electrode. The immobilized CoPcF complex shows the fast electron transfer rate and excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of nitrite. Under optimum experimental conditions, the proposed nitrite electrochemical sensor shows the fast response (less than 2 s), wide linear range (9.6 × 10(-8) to 3.4 × 10(-4) M) and low detection limit (6.2 × 10(-8) M) because of the good mass transport, fast electron transfer rate, and excellent electrocatalytic activity.
