Metal-Free Transformation of Sulfonyl Oxime Ethers with Amines to Oxime Ethers

Sulfonyl oxime ethers undergo facile radical substitutions with various amines to yield the corresponding oxime ethers. An efficient arylation of sulfonyl oxime ethers was accomplished under ambient temperature and metal-free conditions, with a wide range of functional group tolerance. Mechanistic investigations indicate that a phenyl radical is involved in the catalytic cycle.

Theoretical study on the toxicity of 'Novichok' agent candidates

The identities and properties of 'Novichok' (Russian for 'newcomer' or 'novice') agents allegedly used in the recent terrorist attack in the UK have not been well documented. Although several people previously involved in the synthesis of these materials claimed Novichok agents to be five to eight times more potent than VX, a deadly nerve agent, no open data on these species are currently available. To bridge this gap, we herein performed a theoretical study on several Novichok agent candidates and conducted natural population charge analysis to evaluate the possible mechanisms of their toxicity, suggesting that these agents might promote the ageing and deformation of acetylcholinesterase. Moreover, the reaction of Novichok agents with acetylcholinesterase serine was calculated to be most thermodynamically favoured for Novichok candidate A234. Thus, this work is believed to provide a basis for finding Novichok antidotes and should inspire further detoxification studies to prepare for possible terrorist attacks in the future.

Cobalt-catalyzed cyclization with the introduction of cyano, acyl and aminoalkyl groups

An efficient synthesis of carbo- and heterocycles using C[double bond, length as m-dash]C, C[double bond, length as m-dash]O and C[double bond, length as m-dash]N bonds under cobalt catalysis is described. The substituents on olefins are key for controlling the regio- and chemoselectivity in the initial hydrogen atom transfer step and quaternary carbons are efficiently constructed under mild conditions. Cyclopropane cleavage and tandem cyclization give highly functionalized bicyclic skeletons in a single operation.

Metal-Involving Synthesis and Reactions of Oximes

This review classifies and summarizes the past 10-15 years of advancements in the field of metal-involving (i.e., metal-mediated and metal-catalyzed) reactions of oximes. These reactions are diverse in nature and have been employed for syntheses of oxime-based metal complexes and cage-compounds, oxime functionalizations, and the preparation of new classes of organic species, in particular, a wide variety of heterocyclic systems spanning small 3-membered ring systems to macroheterocycles. This consideration gives a general outlook of reaction routes, mechanisms, and driving forces and underlines the potential of metal-involving conversions of oxime species for application in various fields of chemistry and draws attention to the emerging putative targets.
