Abstract
Five/six-membered benzolactams are significant blocks in both organic and medicinal chemistry. Achieving 5/6-membered benzolactams from the same starting compound under varying reaction conditions presents a significant challenge. Herein, palladium-catalyzed free amine-oriented regioselective C-H activations/carbonylations mediated by hexacarbonylmolybdenum, leading to diverse sizes of benzolactams, respectively, have been developed. Six-membered dihydroisoquinolinones can be obtained selectively in acetic acid using benzoquinone as an oxidant. While unfavorable five-membered isoindolinones were formed in the presence of Cu(II) as an oxidant and dihydrooxazole ligands in 1,2-dichlorobenzene. The substituents on the phenyl ring also had a great influence on the regioselectivity of the reaction. In addition, an asymmetric version of the reaction has also been attempted preliminarily.

Abstract
A Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H bond activation and subsequent [4+1] annulation of benzamides with vinyl cyclic carbonates have been developed for the synthesis of isoindolinones, in which the electron-rich alkenes could serve as one-carbon units. This reaction proceeds smoothly with high regioselectivity under oxidant- and silver-free conditions and exhibits broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance including some biological active materials. The scale-up reaction and derivatizations of the product further demonstrate the potential synthetic utility of this transformation.

Abstract
Direct utilization of CO2 into organic synthesis finds enormous applications to synthesize pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. However, pure CO2 gas is essential to achieve these transformations, and the purification of CO2 is highly cost and energy intensive. Considering this, we describe a straightforward synthetic route for the synthesis of γ-lactams, a pivotal core structure of bioactive molecules, by using commercially available starting materials (alkenes and amines) and impure CO2 stream (exhaust gas is collected from the car) as the carbon source. This blueprint features a broad scope, excellent functional group compatibility and application to the late-stage transformation of existing pharmaceuticals and natural products to synthesize functionalized γ-lactams. We believe that our strategy will provide direct access to γ-lactams in a very sustainable way and will also enhance the Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) strategy.

Abstract
An efficient primary-amine-directed, palladium-catalyzed C-H halogenation (X=I, Br, Cl) of phenylalanine derivatives is reported on a range of quaternary amino acid (AA) derivatives thanks to suitable conditions employing trifluoroacetic acid as additive. The extension of this original native functionality-directed ortho-selective halogenation was even demonstrated with the more challenging native phenylalanine as tertiary AA.

Abstract
Herein we report an efficient protocol for the C(sp2)-H carbonylation of amino acid derivatives based on an inexpensive cobalt(II) salt catalyst. Carbonylation was accomplished using picolinamide as a traceless directing group, CO (1 atm) as the carbonyl source, and Co(dpm)2 as the catalyst. A broad range of phenylalanine derivatives bearing diverse functional groups were tolerated. Moreover, the method can be successfully applied for the C(sp2)-H carbonylation of short peptides thereby allowing access for peptide late-stage carbonylation.

Abstract
The RhIII -catalyzed, consecutive double C-H oxidative coupling of free 1-naphthylamine and α,β-unsaturated esters through C-H/C-H and C-H/N-H bonds is reported. The one step reaction leads to the formation of biologically important alkylidene-1,2-dihydrobenzo[cd]indoles scaffolds. This efficient process is much more synthetically convenient and useful than others because the starting materials, such as 1-naphthylamine derivatives are readily available and the free amine serves as a directing group.

Abstract
A new method for the preparation of 2,2-disubstituted indolines from 2-phenylethylamines was developed under Pd catalysis and PhI(OAc)2 as oxidant. Imines derived from 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde were formed in situ to direct a C-H activation process. The resulting imines were also oxidized to the corresponding amides in the same Pd-catalyzed process to obtain the final indoline as a picolinamide.

Abstract
A mono- N-protected amino acid (MPAA) ligand promoted, Pd(II)-catalyzed C(sp2)-H arylation of free primary 2-phenylethylamines using the native NH2 as the directing group has been achieved. This method is compatible with challenging simple primary 2-phenylethylamines bearing α-hydrogen atoms. Application of this protocol in the direct structure modification of the drug molecule amphetamine is also demonstrated.

Abstract
Imidazolidinone derivatives of a range of aromatic α-amino acids, on treatment with phosgene and potassium iodide, undergo a mild Bischler-Napieralski-style cyclocarbonylation reaction that generates a tricyclic lactam by insertion of a C═O group between amino acid nitrogen and the ortho position of the aryl substituent. Regio- and diastereoselective functionalization of the lactam generates a library of substituted dihydroisoquinolinones and their congeners in enantioenriched form.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed, amine-directed C(sp2)-H carbonylation of α,α-disubstituted benzylamine under 1 atm of CO for the facile synthesis of sterically hindered benzolactam has been developed. The key to success is the use of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy as the crucial sole oxidant. The synthetic utility of this transformation has been demonstrated by the first concise synthesis of the natural product spiropachysin-20-one.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of pyridoisoquinolinones, through Pd-catalyzed carbonylative annulation of 2-benzylpyridines, has been developed. The pyridinyl moiety in the substrate acts as both a directing group and an internal nucleophile for sp2 C-H activation and pyridocarbonylation. The ready availability of 2-benzylpyridines as well as the operational practicality makes this transformation potentially useful for the synthesis of analogues of protoberberine alkaloids.

Abstract
A three-component palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of aryl and heteroaryl sp2 C-H bonds using nitroarenes as the nitrogen source was achieved using Mo(CO)6 as the reductant and origin of the CO. This intermolecular C-H bond functionalization does not requires any exogenous ligand to be added, and our mechanism experiments indicate that the palladacycle catalyst serves two roles in the aminocarbonylation reaction: reduce the nitroarene to a nitrosoarene and activate the sp2 C-H bond.

Abstract
The dimeric cyclometalated complexes [Pd2{κ(2)C,N-C6H4CH2CH2C(R)(Me)NH2-2}2(μ-Cl)2] (R = Me (1a), H (1b)) are prepared by reacting 1,1-dimethyl-3-phenylpropylammonium or 1-methyl-3-phenylpropylammonium triflate with Pd(OAc)2 in a 1:1 molar ratio and subsequent treatment with excess NaCl. The mononuclear derivatives [Pd{κ(2)C,N-C6H4CH2CH2C(R)(Me)NH2-2}Cl(L)] (L = PPh3, R = Me (3a), H (3b); L = 4-picoline (4-pic), R = Me (4a), H (4b)) were prepared from 1a,b by splitting the chloro bridges with the neutral ligands L. A conformational analysis of the mononuclear palladacycles in solution has been carried out. Insertion of CO takes place into the Pd-C bond of complexes 1a,b, affording Pd(0) and the tetrahydro-benzazepinone 5a or 5b, which possesses potential pharmacological interest. Additionally, the triflate salt A or B undergoes catalytic carbonylation with CO to afford the corresponding N,N'-dialkylurea, using Pd(OAc)2/Cu(OAc)2, in boiling acetonitrile. The crystal structures of 3a·(1)/2H2O, 3b, 4b·CHCl3, and 5a were determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
