Titanium(IV)-Mediated Ring-Opening/Dehydroxylative Cross-Coupling of Diaryl-Substituted Methanols with Cyclopropanol Derivatives

A titanium(IV)-mediated ring-opening/dehydroxylative cross-coupling of diaryl-substituted methanols with a cyclopropanol derivative was developed. The reactions proceeded efficiently to provide synthetically useful γ,γ-diaryl esters in moderate to good yields, which could be applied to the functionalization of complex molecules derived from bioactive fenofibrate and isoxepac and the synthesis of a precursor of Zoloft.

Indium-mediated difunctionalization of iodoalkyl-tethered unactivated alkenes via an intramolecular cyclization and an ensuing palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with aryl halides

A cobalt-catalyzed, indium-mediated difunctionalization of iodoalkyl-tethered unactivated alkenes for accessing five-membered cyclic compounds via a cyclization/cross-coupling sequence was developed.

Mn-Enabled Radical-Based Alkyl-Alkyl Cross-Coupling Reaction from 4-Alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines

Highly efficient alkylation of β-chloro ketones and their derivatives was achieved by means of domino dehydrochlorination/Mn-enabled radical-based alkyl-alkyl cross-coupling reaction. In situ-generated α,β-unsaturated ketones and their analogues were identified as the reaction intermediates. Known bioactive compounds, such as melperone and azaperone, could be easily prepared from β-chloropropiophenone in two steps.

Iron(0)-Mediated Reformatsky Reaction for the Synthesis of β-Hydroxyl Carbonyl Compounds

An efficient, economical, and practical Reformatsky reaction of α-halo carbonyl compounds with aldehydes/ketones by using cheap and commercial iron(0) powder as reaction mediator is developed. The reactions proceeded effectively in the presence of a catalytic amount of iodine (20 mol %) to afford the synthetically useful β-hydroxyl carbonyl compounds in moderate to good yields.

Metallic salt-catalyzed direct indium insertion into alkyl iodides and their applications in cross-coupling reactions

An efficient method for the synthesis of alkyl indium reagents via an indium(iii) or lead(ii) halide-catalyzed direct insertion of indium into alkyl iodides is developed. NMR and ESI-MS analyses indicated the formation of a mixture of an alkyl indium dihalide (RInX₂) and a dialkyl indium halide (R₂InX).

Visible light-promoted ring-opening functionalization of unstrained cycloalkanols via inert C-C bond scission

Described herein is a novel, useful, visible light-promoted ring-opening functionalization of unstrained cycloalkanols. Upon scission of an inert cyclic C-C σ-bond, a set of medium- and large-sized rings are readily brominated under mild reaction conditions to afford the corresponding distal bromo-substituted alkyl ketones that are hard to synthesize otherwise. The products are versatile building blocks, which are easily converted to other valuable molecules in one-step operation. This protocol is also applicable to the unprecedented ring-opening cyanation and alkynylation of unstrained cycloalkanols.

Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of benzyl chlorides with cyclopropanol-derived ketone homoenolates

The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of cyclopropanol-derived ketone homoenolates with benzyl chlorides is reported. This reaction proceeds in high yields with electron-neutral and electron-rich benzyl chlorides; however, yields are low with electron-poor benzyl chlorides. In addition, a range of cyclopropanols can be coupled in good yields. The reaction can be conducted with a low catalyst loading (1% Pd) and on a gram scale without reduction in yield.
